SUE, not I, I missed the TOP by 2 nanoseconds, but, I will buy you a lunch anyways. As for repairs, sure , send them by, the rest and relaxation will do me good. I have lifting 32" diameter X 18" long Maple logs up onto my log splitter ( about 16" height lift ) for 2 hours and I am plum tuckered out with sore lower back. You see Fergie & Co. keeps sending this cold Canadian air down south of the border.
FERGIE: Ok, we know that you get all your info from Lisa regarding Climate, weather facts etc., your a sailor not a weatherman. LOL

CARY: We have had snow, up to 10" as early as October 10th, but that was back in 1970's and only happens about every 50 years that early here in central MA. Usually we get our first measureable snows in early November. I actually like the snow because it forces me to stay inside mostly, and work on MRR'g. I love the change of seasons here, never boring. In summer, 1 hour ride to the ocean and 72F water on south facing Cape Cod. Or in the Fall, gorgeous colors anywhere in New England especially the mountains of the three northern states and the Berkshires of CT and MA.

Sue, I was having problems with the forum servers timing out on me yesterday evening also. I sent them an email and today sent them particulars on my browser, connection, etc. so their alpha geeks can track things down to fix them, hopefully.
Jeff, I got off early today from w**k and got my flu shot as well. I also got a copy of my birth certificate, as Missouri (ever vigilant about those nasty terrorists, I suppose) now requires both a photo ID and a copy of your birth certificate to renew your driver's license (or at least, this first time around - I sure hope they don't make me do it every time from now on...). I found out that the state license bureau had trouble reading my Mom's handwriting on the original certificate; they had her middle initial as 'P' (it's B). So I don't think this will be a deal-killer for renewing my driver's license, but I did suggest to the county health center that they send an email to the state bureau to notify them that they have it wrong.
Terry, thanks for the suggestion & info - my book that I checked didn't get that technical. Besides, I was just looking to be sure what range of wire gauge I could use (and possibly just be able to use the terminal and connectors I already have, and that fit each other). I did find myself wondering today, "WHY did I get 12 gauge wire for my buss wires" (when the book says - for my runs - to allow 14 or even 16 gauge)? I suspect that it may have read that way in the Jerome & Southwestern RR book that I have (both copies... guess who couldn't find his copy and thought it was gone, only to turn up after buying another copy on the 'Bay?) About 20 years ago, I was going to build that layout (and industrial yard extension), so the first bunch of plywood and 2 X 4's that I used for building my current sections came from the wood I bought for the J&SW.
Jerry, good job on the building - but I must be used to rust and grime; it looks too clean to me. Might want a little dirt or rust on that roof, y'think? That Saw Pit Store (from what I recall of the kit) is a nice one. Now you have me thinking I should start on my laser kit; I have the KingMill kit of the Nella Country Store, which is supposed to be easier than a lot of laser kits. I also have a Preiser lazy dog for the front porch, too.
Rob, we got some warmer weather today, too (after what I'd call "dew frost" on the front & rear windshields on the car this morning). I saw one bank thermometer that read 73 (F) this afternoon, which was about 5 degrees warmer than the prediction for the high temp. It was nice out. Hey, Colby, good pics - but I suspect that first one might be more in 1:1 scale, right?
Dick, I'll try to send along some of our weather to you by the weekend to thaw you out a little.

Lee - I see you live near Cleveland. That's the area I'm trying to model, might have a few brain-pickin' questions for you sometime soon...Duke your roundhouse is lookin' good! I see that Jeff, Sue and Jerry are also working on structures. I wish I could say the same, that's probably my favorite part of railroading. But I've been mostly doing cleanup and repair. Amazing how you never notice how far away from perfect your layout is until you start preparing for guest operators, then all the blemishes hit you like an avalanche! Gets a bit stressful at times. But I've set a goal to start doing op sessions, no sense putting so much effort into a layout just to keep it hidden. I'm heading over to M B Klein's on Saturday to pick up a pair of extra UT-4R radio throttles - that should clear the final hurdle to hosting.I'll say goodnight now, I'm running on a sleep deficit.

Evening Gang: I'm happy to hear that I am no longer the only one having time out problems. It doesn't happen all the time but once in a while. I think that it may be connected to using Internet Exployer 8. I down loaded it when the forum was up dated. I think that it was recommended in the notice that the forum was being up dated. Anyway the altest word I have seen is to go back to IE7 and delete IE8. I'll do that as soon as I figure out how or get my buddy the computer guy to come out and help. I may have to get a brick of .22 long rifle or two. That usually works.
I got the first flat car lettered today. I had to get several vinal lettering sets to get the job done. I also got the two 55ft gons almost lettered. I'll have to get some more 1/4in lettering sets to get enough numbers though. They give you dozens of letters but only 2 of each number 0-9. I'll try and get a total number set if they make such a thing.
Right now my shoulders are aching from leaning over the work bench laying out the lettering for the cars. It would be nice if someone made decals in this scale.
Duke I have heard that Michigan got nasty on the boiler inspections. There were a couple of articles in the Live Steam magazine a couple of years ago. From what I have heard one person started the whole thing out of spite. There was a guy down here that tried to get the state to get involved. Fortunately common sence prevailed and the state boiler code exempts model boilers.

KEN: I don't worry about power outages anymore either. After Y2K scare, the generator market was flooded with unsold equipment at bargain basement prices. I picked up a 13.5K generator that runs on either gas or propane. We have used it several times already.
JIM: Please do send some warmer weather, it is a little early for mid December temps, our blood is still thin from summer yet.
SUE: Yup, I remember those days of splitting cords of wood with a wedge and splitting maul. I did that until I was about 42, then I started developing elbow troubles with pain that lasted for months. You can't keep swing 10# head of steel at the end of a 3 foot shaft for ever without causing serious damage to the tendons in your arm. I hope your husband is more fortunate than I.

Jim, Things seem to be working fine today.
Dick, Larry lifts weights at least 3 times per week to help prevent that. When we cut wood, we limit ourselves to one tank of gas in each of our saws, so we are only out there a couple of hours at the most. It is easier to go out if it doesn't kill the whole day. Since it is our place, we can leave the split wood where it lies if we are lazy.

JR, I’m sorry to hear about the layout damage, but your home insurance should cover the repairs. Speaking of insurance I need to upgrade my layout insurance this year.
Jerry, not yet, LOL. I’ve been forcing myself to work on things in stages and the locomotive power is last on my list. Hopefully when I make the leap to DCC I’ll rebuild the Mantua locomotives (switch from open frame motor to can motors) and re-balance the Rivarossi power. The Rivarossi locomotives are way over powered for their weight so I need to add weight and better tires to them. (cheaper than buying MTH locomotives at $449 each)
Marklin Vs. LGB: Could be worse: Libby foods could have bought them out like they did with TYCO brown box and have a market flooded with 86ft box cars with General Mills logos painted all over them.

Good Morning All,
A regular and a donut plese Zoe. Another chilly but dry morning with more of the same predicted for the weekend. High should hit about 60F. Ran to one of the engine builders yesterday afternoon and made a stop athe the not so LHS to pick up my Turbo train. Got it in delivery NH colors and it looked nice on the test track making all the station announcements and the usual racket of bells and the unusual jet turbine sounds it made. I dimly remember seeing them run in the late 60's on the shoreline but never rode one as I was otherwise occupied at college and then my four year sea cruise courtesy of our uncle. It'll be a while before it rolls out at home so it may make an appearance in the lobby model case here at the shop. Might look good sitting along with the I-5 and coaches, no?
tomorrow we'll do the Danbury Railway Museum excursion up the Housatonic to Kent along with 500 of our closest friends riding CDOT coaches behind a brace of FL-9's. Yes, these veteran 50's covered wagons are still in the commuter service pool and have been repainted in original livery. Should be fun. Well, gotta run as duty calls. Y'all have a goodun. J.R.

Well yesterday a helicopter crashed on the other side of the river near my house. The pilot was using the small copter to trim trees, and he said he lost power to the engine. He was only hurt on his back and neck. He was very lucky.
I am working on a small lumber/tree company on the corner of my layout. Its not going to have a siding for cars, but more like a small family business. Since today is payday, maybe I can go to the hobby store, and get a few items. I will see how it turns out today for some WPF.

Good morning.It's 47 and clear. The high should be in the upper 70's today and it will be sunny becoming partly cloudy later.Last night was maintenance night at the Sundown Fire Dept. Two overhead flourescent light fixtures were replaced, the oil in two of the trucks was changed along with the fuel filters. Several small halogen floodlights were assembled and tested before being added to the stations equipment. All the generators and what seemed like miles of electrical cords were checked and all the pumps were checked for leaks. The local newspaper yesterday was enough to make anyone cry. The headline was "A Community Mourns", and the front page and other pages told of a funeral for three murdered children. This was the crime I described a few days ago. The funeral was held in the high school gym so all the school kids could attend. The mother of the kids attended in a wheelchair. She was recovering from knife wounds in her neck and was not able to speak. A friend read a note she wrote. It was really somthing. So sad. Pictures showed kids, teachers, parents, and others hugging each other and crying. The little town of Cadiz, KY will be in need of prayers to recover from this one. The note from the mother says she beleives her kids are safe now in heaven and she will not allow herself to be overcome by hate for the murderer. A man confessed to the crime and of course is being prosecuted.
On the layout, I worked moore on my expansion yesterday.
Later today, Shelley and I are off to Lexington, KY (4 1/2 hours east of here) to attend a church sponsored meeting tomorrow. We continue to be active with a church sponsored recovery program to help people recover from various problems in their lives.

I had a old Model railroad friend drop by last nite...He use to have a Train shop in Terre Haute and I would fill in sometimes on saturdays when He had shows..That was a "dream" job!...He still does train shows all over the country...He left me a old Airfix signal tower in HO..Don't know if anyone else remebers Airfix?....I kit bashed this kit into a false front country store years ago and I am going to try to see if I can remeber how I did it..Yep! I am going to be working in HO on this build!...
Here is the Rix kitbash Piggly Wiggly Grocery store..I have to weather it and detail it and finnish up detail on the whole block [street lites,folks ect].....
