Tall glass of cool lemon water, please & thanks.

***Ray, your granddaughter is adorable. Looks cold outside there. Did you make any snow men trains?

***Vincent: [Quite possibly the only BN modeler in the southeast.] Is this a challenge? I have an affinity for BN colors, as they use to run behind my apt in WA once a week or so. Excellent choice!  Not to worry though, I switched to steam and am sticking with AT&SF, Santa Fe, UP, Southern and Southern Pacific lines.Whistling

***Garry, that 4-4-4-4 is Way Cool. CoolThumbs Up

***RT, it would indeed take a pretty tough cat to tackle those trains.Laugh

***Der, your container crane sure looks sharp.Thumbs Up How much time do you have in it thus far?

I did a bad bad bad thing tonight. I bought something I sure don't need for my future layout. It's just that I felt so sorry for the UP SD90/43MAC downstairs, all by itself, with no other diesels to talk to. OK, I'll get to it, I bought this:

Have been wanting it since the first time I saw one. Let's see, if the big MAC is my "designated (N scale) Christmas Train", then perhaps this little one could be a "Thanks Giving Train?" Gotta be a way to justify it somehow!

Evening, Flo - I'll have a slice of that butterscotch pie (love that graham cracker crust!) and a glass of milk, please 'n' thanks!

Jeff, good to hear that you won't be tagging every car you get - that Santa Fe looks pretty good. Sounds like you did all right at H-L. Did you use their 40 percent off coupon this weekend? I'm not sure, but it seems like they're running the 40 percent off one the past couple or three weeks. Yeah!! I like that new consist of yours, too. Looks like some major power coming through. Thumbs Up

Paul, it seems like you’ve been working yourself pretty hard lately. Don’t be bashful about corralling your son or someone to help you with some of those jobs, okay? We’d like it if you didn’t wear yourself down to nothing with all that ‘retirement’... Take care of yourself.

Rob, hope the Game Warden caught the neighbors with the goods, and they have to cough up a fine and change their ways. Yeah!! Problem with that tree is, the utility companies are the only folks with a cherry picker that can get up there to trim things down for a safe distance from your lines. But I’m sure you already know that and have asked them, from your post.

F-Unit, better be careful about peeking - if your folks catch you doin’ that, the set might wind up disappearing and you’ll end up with a couple of shirts (DRESS SHIRTS...) and sox instead. Better keep mum about them - and act really surprised and grateful if they’re under the tree on Christmas Day.Whistling Oh yeah, and Sign - Welcome to the Diner! How long had you been asking for the trains? Had you been drooling (not toooo obviously) when you visited at someone else’s layout with your folks along?

Ray, Jeff wasn't talking about having had chili and beans for lunch - he was talking about the weather down his way! Whistling So, hey, is that you at the end of the table in your photo, or were you behind the camera? Nice lawn treatment, too. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Garry, nice loco there - you’ll have Tom drooling if you’re not careful (even if it isn’t a Yellowstone). Wink

RT, I think you get the prize for the first Diner’s train under the tree this year (so far as I know). Better keep your guard cat away from the computer before he starts getting tips from Spring, Spooky & Remington. Next thing you know, they’d have Boots hauling off one of those Fanta boxcars. Shock

DerJohn - Bow Bow Bow you continue to amaze me with all you do, and especially in iNvisible scale! Wow!! Me, I would’ve stopped a level or two earlier on the details you put in. Kudos indeed!

Didn’t get much more done on the MRR since yesterday, but I did find out that Athearn still has some of the steel cabeese kits (undecorated, no less! Yeah!!), so I told our MRR club member/LHS owner to order me a couple. I’ll paint both caboose red and decal one with Santa Fe, and the other with CAW decals (once I get the cartridge replaced that the printer has been telling me I need to replace). I already have one (maybe two) D&RGW caboose/cabeese, so that’ll give me cabeese for either end of the CAW at interchanges. Next Saturday is our club CHRISTmas dinner, party & train-running, at the LHS owner’s home. When I saw him Friday, he had a lingering cough he was hoping to lose, and wanted to get a new Walthers 90’ turntable and a roundhouse put in before the dinner/party/train running.

Cold rain here today - hit a high of about 42 F in the morning and the temp’s been dropping since. Some chilly rain this evening that might turn to snow (max. of 1/2” by morning, but don’t bet the farm on it), and maybe continuing tomorrow (but it’s s’pposed to warm up to 39 F). Just a bone-chilling rain for a while. Flo, that pie was really good; how about a cup of hot cocoa please, to warm my bones up before I have to go out into that stuff? Thanks!

Blessings and prayers for a warm spot for your night,

Nope, not I.... I was behind the camera.  That is my oldest son next to his daughter.  As far as the lawn, Love this time of year.  The lawn mower has been put away! Laugh

Well I think she is!  But then I may be prejudiced!   No snow trains yet, but I did observe a clown who did a 360° stop at my corner.............  Maybe she should have driven less than the 30 MPH speed limit on the ice rather than more......Grumpy

Evening Gang: I got the weight back on the root plow. I lifted it with the Kubota that has the grapple on the bucket. I just grabbed it on th etop of the rail and layed it in place. This time I did some extra welding so it should stay in place. I also pulled out the welder that was parked in the shed under where the gineas roost. It took a couple of hours and the pressure washer to get the poop cleaned off. I used it to do the welding. DC is much better for heavy duty welding. From now on it stays out under a tarp.

The mesquite wood makes beautiful furniture. It really has a great color and grain.

Welcome F-unit. Have a cold drink on me.

Well I guess I'll hit the sack.

Hobby Lobby has a 30% discount on some mr items so the 40% coupon made for a good price cut on the hopper. So I got the hopper at 40% off, the tank car at regular price and the three boxes of trees at 30% off each box. All in all a pretty good savings.

Cowboy Rob

Rob and Jim I'll have you know I have 4 legged monsters here ( all cats) anyway when I got up this am ( dark in house) I walked to kitchen to get drink tripping half way there as it seems somebody ( 4 legged) pulled the 2 standard gauge passenger cars off the track and put them between the coffee table and the hutch ( trains unhurt me cussing) they like to play with them 2 and don't know it you know but a standard gauge passenger car isn't that light and the only thing kept them from draggin any further I guess is that they were still connected to the engine and they could n't move that lol thank goodness

By the way mine aren't maine coon but I have 1 thats 24 LBS thats boots one thats 22 LBS and one thats 19 LBS the rest are smaller thank goodness. Although the 22 LBS cat daddy was a wild cat that had minx in him I was told and hes as gental as can be but the boss of the other cats. Whistling

Good morning.

It's 39 and clear. The high will be in the high 50's and it will be partly cloudy.

My two Atlas GP40's are pulling a 23 car train around the layout this morning and aren't having a bit of trouble, and these are weighted cars too so it's no lightweight. The train is around 16 feet long. The BNSF SD40 is pulling a 19 car train around the inner loop. I don't expect to get much done on the layout today. I have to go see my PCP to get a referral to continue seeing the foot specialist whom I have to go see this afternoon.  I also have to get refills on some of my prescriptions, including my insulin. What a joy that's gonna be. I planted 15 trees last night then hit the sack early. I was worn out. I planted 3 elms, 6 conifers and 6 cedars. I'll say one thing for Bachmann, their Scene Scape trees look pretty good but they are pricey, $10 for a box of 6, 3 in the case of the elms.

Morning guys.

{snap} Chloe, an spanish omelette por favor!

ANYTHING but turkey or chicken. Had fillet mignon for real last night. Ahhhhhhh......

For those wondering {and for those who don't know} I am starting to feel better after being out of the hospital finally. I still play my favorite songs over and over and withdraw sometimes,  I also have not been outside since TG day, which still has my other half worried some. I really miss the medication I used to take that I began reacting badly too. It worked "wonders" at keeping me balanced. Jan Feb Mar have always been very hard psychiatrically and depression wise on me,and they approach fast. It's call SAD Seasonal Affective Disorder in addition to the Bipolar.

This week we hope to put up the tree. I will cut a new board on which to build a new layout {simple- not much room for complex} for under the tree. One thing I need to watch out for is becoming manic over building it and becomming obsessed with it. Then again that may just get me out of clinical deep depression. As long as I don't turn manic i should at least enjoy that. This will be first year to have DCC trains under tree......

Have pulmonary function test for my asthma today so I will get out. Want to go to HD for the wood, too.

Hope everyone has a smashingly good day!

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Morning, Zoe - I'll have ham and scrambled eggs please, with a glass of Ed's OJ and a cup of the TH. Thanks!

Paul, cleaning off that welder doesn't sound too great, but I'm sure you're glad that is done (and the tarp is a good idea).

Jeff, the trees look good that you planted, and they should keep the winds down around that house (saving it some on the utilities, even in 1:87 scale...).Smile,Wink, & Grin

RT, we tried to warn you.- I'm sure that your four-legged critters got on and chatted with Spooky, Remington and Spring last night while you were sleeping. Imagine the 'fun' Tom would have if he had cats like Boots.Shock

We're having a little bit of snowflakes this a.m. but it's above freezing (barely - high today MIGHT hit 40 F), so no accumulation. I think tomorrow it'll break the 40's (F). Thank Heaven for little things! Sorry for those of you up the Ohio River valley and along the Lakes today. I saw that some areas got up to 5 inches of the white stuff and are expected to get as much as another 3 inches today, with winds.Oops

Galaxy, hope you get to HD today and can get some done on the layout. Do you have one of those lights for your SAD? I forgot how much My 2 cents they run, but I know one of our admin. people uses one of them.

Looks like Bill T. is burned out on turkey this a.m. (note his smiley), as may be several of us today. But hey - there's open face turkey sandwiches with gravy, turkey hash, turkey sandwich mix, and a few others that escape my memory at the moment...Wink

Think I'll slip into the corner booth and start on breakfast 'til the other Diners get in.

Blessings on your Monday,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Jim, last time they power co. was here with thte cherry picker, they removed all the branches from that old pine, but left the trunk. I encouraged them to knock down the whole tree, but they wouldn't. You can actually hear the pine beetles (or some insects) chewing away inside it. I don't know what is keeping it standing.

****Paul, around the farm it's the peakocks that seem to sabotage me every few days with "stealth poop" on some implement or gate chain.

***Jerry, share some pics of that hill when you create it. Been thinking the wife's layout would be well suited for a divider, rather than trying to combine a circus/carnival with mountian folk doings.

***RT, that's a hoot. We only have one indoor cat "Millie" she likes to leave her toys on the steps. Doesn't she know if she kills us off there will be nobody to feed her?

Have to run get some more grout for the tilers, as they are running out and can finish today if they get another two bags. Gotta run.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Man!  What a BUSY MORNING!

That 4 day weekend blew past, and now this morning is almost gone!  Where's the time going?

So check this out.........

Saturday was halfway decent, so I rode my motorcycle up to the local shop to have them look at a couple of things.  While I'm hanging around, some guy who works there comes up and asks me if I'd like to win a $200 gift certificate.  I said sure, what do I have to do?  I'm thinking I'll have to fill out a little card with my email address or something so they can spam me to death, right?  No.........He says, "You register your bike and mileage with us at the beginning of the winter (now remember, I live in Indiana) and then at the end of the winter we see who rode the most miles over the winter and the winner gets the gift certificate."  So I look at him a second or two, and then I asked him, "That's not a contest you really want to win, is it?"  I'm thinkin', if you win that contest, are you really a winner.....REALLY?

Now, let me just pick up that lunch tab for you all!

Now, let me just pick up that lunch tab for you all!

Why Thank You Philip!  Flo, I'll have one last Hot Turkey Sandwich, Fries w/gravy,  a tall glass of OJ, and the last of that Pumpkin Pie!  (All the rest of the Turkey is now in the freezer for lunches later...... much later!)  The carcase is being boiled down for the annual Turkey Soup.  It won't be ready until tomorrow though........,..

Been doing all the monthly e-mails that I have to get out for Deacons as Moderator every month (meeting notice, agenda, minutes of the last meeting, and other info).  Still trying to get some end of the year things to fall in place........  Also waiting for a friend who works for the church to let me know when we can check out the repairs to the mic wiring today.

Have Martin Luther King Committee meeting this evening and hopw to find some time to work in the train room as well.

Philip, you mean you don't ride the bike during blizzards?  How come?  You must be one of those "Fair Weather" Bikers!  WhistlingWinkBig Smile

I'll ride if it's 40 degrees or above.  Below that it's just not fun anymore.  At that point, about the only enjoyment you get is in knowing that you survived!

I found out this morning what's been wrong with my car lately. It's been running rough and nothing I did improved it any. I changed the fuel filter, the air filter, spark plugs, plug wires. Nothing made any difference. This morning I had the fuel pressure checked and a computer diagnostic done. The EGR valve is bad. Parts store wants $200+ for one so I went to the local scrap yard and got one for $27. I won't have time to change it today or tomorrow but maybe Wednesday. The mechanical part of it is OK, just the electronic part is cutting up so that makes it somewhat easier.

PC  I don’t know about Indiana but here in Mich they salt the roads, so with that, not to mention the possibility of ice, it isn’t worth $200. Hey,try riding in 30 deg weather, just dress for it as if you were going to ride a snowmobile and yes I have ridden in those temps down in Virginia in Oct on my way to Apex,NC for the steam meets. Ah yes, the thrill of being on two wheels, nothing like it. Big SmileWink

Duke, yeah, they salt here too.  It's just not worth the hassle to me below 40.  Maybe if I had chaps, or a full fairing on the bike.......no, scratch that.........that would look silly on my bike.  As I was saying, if I had chaps maybe...........

I have a question about an AHM locomotive I have and I hope someone can give me some help. It is a 4-4-0 Reno with the motor in the tender and the drive shaft to the locomotive is gone. Over the years and the box it was in being moved at different times it has decided to go AWOL on me and I was wondering if I could get an idea of how to take care of it. One thought was to see if Plastistrut has anything that would work and I guess I better tell you it is a hexagon. I didn’t want to go out in the main room with this because we do have quite a few answer people here in the Diner. My other thought is to wait until we have a show here and see if I can pick up a basket case for parts,if I could find one or contact IHC-Riverossi(sp).

Thanks

Another cold night here in southwestern pa.

Got a jury notice Saturday, and I am suppose to go in Jan of 09.  Now, the place I am working at doesn't pay for jury duty.  Now tell me if that isn't bad.   Boy taht will be tough paying bills with a $12 check a day.

I guess I will watch some Monday Night Football.  I'm off tomorrow, and hope to get some stuff done on the layout.

Everybody have a goodnight.

For you Jeff.........

IF MY BODY WERE A CAR... If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull ...

But that's not the worst of it.

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed.

My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter ..either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

Duke,

I'm not sure if they can help but it would be the first place I'd call:

http://www.golfmanorhobbies.com/

It's a little train store in Cincinnati, OH that has a good selection of spare parts.  If they can't help you I bet they know who can.

Anytime I've asked a LHS for a part to an older locomotive they sent me to Golf manor.

PC; If you win the $200 you could afford some artic anti-exposure suit for your bike rides!

All; did you guys notice the IHC add on page 23 of the December MR? $14.98 for passenger cars, not a bad price for brand new.

Evening Gang:

PC that sounds like a bunch of us here, espically the back fire part.

Not much today. I did the haying and filled the water troughs in the corral. The wind was really bad and it that made it feel really cold. I'm thinking about the idea I had for the Beer Line on a 4x8 that I had a coupleof years ago. If you have read the article in the Jan MR you'll know what I'm talking about. What I had planned is very much like what they did. i need to get the research out and have another go at it. I got the two new runs of the Fairbanks Morse H-10-44s with sound and have two of the earler runs in orange and black without sound. That would be more then enought power for the layout. I like the sectional design that they used. That makes it a real challange to set up differently. In my layout I put a view block down the middle of the layout with backdrops on each side. One problem I'm having is remembering how it was back when I was living in Milwaukee some 45 years ago. Oh for a photographic memory.

Well enough for tonight. I have the feeling that I may be buying the next page.

Good Night All
