Evenin' all! I had a great day with a bunch of fellow Model Railroaders. Picked some brains for new ideas for the division. One of the MMRs was not able to be there but he was kind enough to e-mial some of his thoughts fro district activities to me. The other two folks that came from the district and I spent about an hour discussing ideas and we all are on the same wavelength. The gentleman who just moved to this area a couple of years ago brought a newsletter from his old division (Dallas, TX) that had exactly some of the kinds of things I was hopping to have brought up. That also dovetailed nicely with the e-mail. My treasurer who has been in that position for many years came in with some very similar ideas. If we can put these into motion this district will have some real fun... Oh, I should mention over here that I am the new Superintendent of the Lakeshores Division, Niagra Frontier Region, NMRA. We also spent about an hour and a half running some trains, and as is always par for the course, had several derailments.......... In places that nothing has ever derailed before!

Nah, I don't have a warehouse, lol. Reason I went for so much rolling stock is that I'm trying to replace all my old bachmann cars w/ Atlas. It's now at 2 hoppers, 7 boxcars for the new cars, a decent start. I now have a plan for that 4x8, and bought the rest of the track I'll need today at the LHS.
Desktop layout is gone ya'll, and thank the lord for it, now I've got a desk where it's heated.

Here's something for you all to ogle at. It's a Model Power copy of a Heljan pedestrian bridge. That doesn't mean it didn't have a whole bunch of little bitty pieces. It took me about three weeks to put it together. This photo was taken in almost no light because I wanted a twilight effect. Focal length=6mm, exposure time=2 seconds, f/2.9, ISO=400.
Another work of art by the artist now if we could just teach the artist to move glue bottles befor pics great job jeff looks excellant.

Evening Gang: I finally got the mesquites grubed out. At least I think that I got them all. I may find some in the spring that I missed or didn't get all of the tape root. One nice thing about working in that field is it is right next to the UP tracks. Lots of train watching the last few days.

Jeff: That pedestrian bridge is really beautiful, and the photo sure shows it off. I made one from a card kit on my B.C. layout. It was a Brit (GWR) type, and I had it on a LNER brick built station…bit of a stretch for a BC Rail subdivision! Nothing like as detailed, or as large, just double track.

Blownout: Jeff; This almost looks like the ped. overpass in Palmerston ON. The photo gives it a presence... …We were living in Clifford when the old overpass at Harriston was made into a grade crossing. The bridge had been built some time like 1910, and was made from 12x12 B.C. cedar. That timber was still in terrific condition 60 to 70 years later.

I'll have a coffee and some apple pie ala mode if Phil has left any. Long cold windy day today cleaning out a 30 year accumulation of paint cans and "stuff". Found a few 110/220 electric motors to have checked out and lots of unrecognizable items. The new shed is just about full and the house is just about gutted.

Der - spent the day ducking under that loop and only hit my head a couple of times. Practice helps, no? I agree - the hard hat just makes it more difficult. With a little work I bet you can hit hard enough to sit yourself down.
Well another full day tomorrow ought to do it except for the radiators and furnace which will need to wait for more help. Then it's back to refinishing furniure and getting ready to move shop while the crew does the house. Catch y'all tomorrow. J.R.

Perhaps some of you may be interested in one of my old locomotives. I've been running several locomotives to test my new track an this is one of them. The picture is on older track by my flour mill. Now my little people don't have to walk across the busy tracks to get to the park anymore. Wonder how long it'll be before the local businesses post their advertising on it. At the end of this post is an action photo of the bridge with two trains crossing beneath. I don't know a ton about them, but as it seems that a lot of folks didn't see your post or whatever, I'll give it a shot.
I don't know of any new doodlebugs made past the 50's, but I would guess that some were still poking around, especially on shortlines, branches, and in MOW service, at least until the end of regular passenger service. That puts it well into the late 60's (68 or 69?). Beyond that I'd say we're looking at maybe a few in MOW service, but only until parts supplies dried up. By then, many of the major repair and fabrication shops were long gone, so keeping them running would become more difficult. Past the early 70's, I'd guess the only operational ones for the most part would be museum pieces. There are one or two hanging around this area, but only because they are the property of the local museum. They are awaiting restoration, but honestly, I don't think they'll ever get the chance. Too many other projects to come first. The biggest now is to get NKP No.587 (a beautiful Mikado) back under steam. She's getting close!

I feeling better this morning, the meds the Doc gave me and the fact that Ohio State stomped all over Michigan yesterday 47-7.
Wouldn’t you know it I have 2 passes to watch the Cleveland game today from the sidelines, participate in the team warm-ups, and hang out at the post game party and I can’t go. I gave the passes to Dorothy and her friend so they could go.

19F this morning and the wind chill brings it down to 8F. I'll have a coffee while I wait for the dryer to finish the last load of clothes. Back out to the house this morning and hopefully we'll have enough cleared out to make it easy for the electricals and mechanicals to come. Once the basement is cleared I can workout placement for the furnace and whatever else we'll need. Not much to do with trains there, but eventually I'll have some usable room for a layout again and can restart the benchwork.
Lee - glad you're feeling better with the new meds - bummer that you can't go to the game. Time to wander out, I'll check in later, J.R.

Mornin' everyone!
A bright, sunny day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 29°F with the high around 33°F later this afternoon. Other than a few flurries, not even any snow happening today. "We're havin' a heat wave... Tropical Heat Wave....."
Flo, I'll have my #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, whole wheat toast and lots and lots of dark roast coffee! I didn't even wake up till after 9:30AM this morning. Yesterday must have worn me out. Sure felt good to run some trains. After everyone left yesterday I weighed the "Milk Train" cars that were derailing in a couple of places and found (as one of the guys suggested) that 3 of the 4 cars were 1/2 oz. under NMRA suggested weight. Added the weight and no more derailments from them... either that or the gremlins had called it a day by that time. I will know on Thursday when the family shows up!
Sawyer looks like you had a great birthday. Like that U23B diseasal thingy you got there! Have you had her running yet?

Lee, glad you are feeling better! My youngest son got his Masters at Miami of Ohio and taught there as a graduate assistant. I won't say anything about what they think about Ohio State over there. I never take sides in those kinds of things........

Yeah, I got quite a haul, lol, about $200 worth from my parents, over $50 from my grandma, and probably around $25 to $30 or so from my aunt (I sound like such a spoiled brat, talking about all this, lol. Truth is I'm thankful I got this much stuff!) Ray, I've had her running, tested her w/ my Tech 4 for a few minutes on my birthday, that sucker pulled all 6 of my new frieght cars (both plastic pellet hoppers look the same, so why take two pics, lol?). Man, I love the momentum option on the Tech 4, was going to ask for the 200 one that doesn't have momentum, then said what the heck, $5 more for momentum. I've already figured out what I'll ask for for Christmas:
