Good morning. It's 39 and clear. That Yankee weather is making itself felt way down here in the south. The high will be in the low 60's and it will be sunny.Got both of my doctors visits wrapped up in the morning yesterday and got home to find that the high-speed internet service was offline. So what else is new! I spent almost two hours on the phone talking to a tech in Tyler who seemed intent on proving that the problem was with my system, even after I had already told him that everyone else out here was out as well. He checked the status of my modem and didn't get any signal back, little wonder since no signal was getting through to it. I had him check the status of my parents modem (I know it was on because I was looking right at it, as I was using their phone) and he got the same results. I asked him what does it signify when you get the exact same result on two completely independent systems 1/8th of a mile apart and he agreed with me that it's got to be a problem upline of our location. The nets up now, barely. It's running about 1/3rd speed on download and upload. A tech is supposed to be coming today to look into the problem. Usually that means they make adjuments on the piece of equipment causing the problem and it's OK until the next time the weather changes (about a week).Today's Weather for:Sundown, LA 71446-6114 10/28/2008Wind Chill: 39°FHumidity: 69%Dew Point: 30°FSo Far TodayHigh: 41°FLow: 39°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 7mph NNEToday High: 65 Sunny. Good Morning All,
A rainy 40 or so this morning, sun's not up yet so it's just dank and dark at once. Lots to do again today with the shop and house both vying for attention. I'm glad I'm not retired so I have the time to do all this. Did get a mould box form made and used the blue silicone rubber kit from micro-mark to make a mould of the chooch O-scale tunnel portal so i can make plaster copies. I also have some casting resin to try as I've never done that before.
Jeff - maybe you should just find the offending bit of equipment and fit it with an ungrounded lightning rod and wait for one of your all too frequent storms. or get a family of squirrels to move into the equipment box. It must be fustrating for you when they keep trying to jury rig the same piece of equipment over and over again.
Well, gotta run and get into the shop before the rest show up. CUL, J.R.
LSWrrHave you ever thought about adding Amtrak service to your layout?
***However if somebody were to offer me an Amtrak loco I might reconsider***
Wow 40 degrees here this morning some one left the door to the north pole open last night
Fergie love the weenie dog you should bring him to Houston and enter him in the races

i'll be in the back with a hot cup of tea

Morning folks!
Glad to hear you all been well fed while I been keepin' my head tucked in the oven lately.
Here is a photo montage from our visit to the North Carolina State Fair, and among certian circles it is also known as the Deep Fried Food Fare Capital Event, or otherwise known as Tums, Alka Seltzer and Zantac City.... Read all about it from the link below...

And now, for our lunch time special today...
Chicken *** Sauté with a Brandy Portobello Sauce served with Rice Pilaf and Baked Tomatoes
Or how about a Hot Roast Beef Po-Boy
Nice to see Ed back in the Diner and with a fresh shipment of OJ too! Hey Pesos are welcome too....
Hey Duke! Did you post those pics from Apex here in the Diner? Bet the folks would like to see em here too! I'm too lazy to go lookin' back 20+ pages since my last post in the new Diner.
Well, you all have a goodin'
Cheers,

CaryNo More Coffee for Phillip! I think he has lost it.
Ahhhh, coffee......The elixer of life!
Morning, Zoe - I'll have a JR (other JR ) regular please, glass of Ed's OJ, and some flapjacks with maple syrup and butter, please. Thank y'ma'am!
Jeff, I kinda like Lee's suggestion about getting the squirrels to move into your local internet booster box. My second choice would be the lightning rod, but then you'd need to pull the rod before the repair guy got there... Kinda Frustrating (putting it mildly) to have your internet go in and out like that.
I do not envy all of you Diners in the Northeast this morning, after seeing the weather this morning (and after reading Lee's weather report for the Lakes). I only had some very light frost on the car's roof and a slight coating on the rear window (which the defroster took off on the way to work). And it's even around 40 for Jeff and Terry this morning!
Got gas before work, and it was nice to fill up for less than $30 (it was $2.29/gal. here today).
Lee, you'll notice I didn't say perfectly straight, as I only had about a two foot metal straight edge to align the track with. But I figure the prototype RR's have a little variation in their tracks, too (unless they're using laser levels nowadays). Our LHS owner/club member last night was also checking/redoing the 110 v lines under the layout to feed the DCC boosters for each section. Not sure if he got all of the sections done last night or not.
Ryan, you're making my mouth water with all the food descriptions and photos! And it's not even close to lunch yet - boy, is my stomach gonna be growling for some of that!
PC:
Terry - Fergie (Fergmeister) lives in Nova Scotia (and has the cute dachshund), while Bergie is Kalmbach's resident head IT/geek for the forum (and maybe other stuff as well). Didn't they give you the Diner and Forum scorecards when you first arrived at the Diner? Zoe - get this man his scorecards, please.
I'll be in the back helping Terry decipher the scorecard (and w**king on my breakfast).
Blessings and some dry spots for our Nor'eastern Diners (to avoid the rain/snow/sleet/whatever) today,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
I'll take one of them thar poboys, on spiced garlic bread.
Good Morning All....Its sunny and cold here this morning..Its up to 33 but we got a hard freeze last nite...Got all of sallie's flowers..I'll have a big slice of Garry's Ky Ham,couple of eggs over easy, biscuits and coffee please...Thank You...
I got the Laser building ready to put the roof on today...Planning on Dull coating IC caboose....Also need to clean track..with the railroad right outside the kitchen seems like track picks up from cooking ....
Jeff hope they get your internet fixed today...Like the SW switcher....Ryan those pictures sure looks like some good eats!...JR Hope you get things squared away at Home...
You all have a good one..Jerry
Good morning, 45F here this morning, raining, heavy low clouds, and 50MPH winds due here later along with s..n..o..w. The Jotul stove is fired up and cranking out heat with a pot of coffee brewing on the top, and the aroma of wood stove heated coffee throughout the house. I will be working in the MRR workshop today for sure..YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS.
FERGIE: That is a DOG??? I thought it was a cat on steroids!!!!!! A NEW TRUCK??? Did you get a raise??? Actually, the prices on trucks are outstanding with the economy tanked. Ford F150's are selling for $11,500 here...brand new.
JEFF: YANKEE??????? ED, J.P., did you hear that ?? PLEASE, don't call us YANKEES, they only reside in New Yaark, this is Red Sox country in New England with the possible exception of far SW CT. I'll have the sandwich you designed for lunch, that looks out of this world!!!
JIM: Nope, no shelf RR for workshop at this time. I will have a programming track however either on the first shelf or on the back section of the workbench. My original workbench was/is in the train room, but the ventillation in that 10.5' X 27' room with one door and no windows scares me a bit. This room on the lower level of the house is off the utility room which also has no windows, but at least has two doors. So I certainly would not like to be soldering, or painting in the Train room. I have a floor fan, but this is only a compromise and not the cure all.
PHIL: Get ready Flip, the snowbirds are headed south, the 1st snowfall is due here. Get the bus ready.
Later guys, time to get to the workshop,
Page 2.....AGAIN!!!!
You folks are dropping the ball!
Wow, page two again. I'll have a vanilla shake and a pastrami on rye with swiss please Zoe.
My mould for the portal came out well and the plaster parts are under way. I mix and pour then cut and grind (an axel) while waiting for the plaster to set. I need to make 8 plus a couple of spares for the usual breakage.
Jerry sounds like good progress. Will we see some pics of the finished project?
Dick - snow already? Please keep it out of yankeeland (I prefer to think of this as Giants land though). Glad to hear you're getting a chance to do some layout work again. With subgrade rooms, little ventilation and lots of rock have you gotten a radon test kit yet?
Well back to the grinding and pouring. J.R.
Wow..... Does anyone remember me?????
Hey Jeff, Phillip, and everyone else it's been a while scence I been here so I need to do some catching up to do.
As for me well I got a new PRR engine, It's a 6 axel, big headlights on both front and rear, looks like it an EMD but it could be ALCO. My layout is comming along great, I've started building my own electrical poles and wire, I've had to relay some more track, repaint some road lines, work on improving the hills and general up keep. Swim season for High School starts soon, and the local Y swim team has already started it's season. and today there a swim team meeting after school and I'll get to meeting the new swim coach and see who will be on the team.
Colby
LSWrrJeff, Check your email. I just happen to have an AMTRAK FP40 A-B set that didn’t go on the bay. My Daughter was into the passenger service stuff on the railroad so I bought them for her, but they only got enough time running for break-in since she preferred the steam locomotives. Been sitting on the living room shelf for 5 years. I ran them last weekend and they performed like I just took them out of the box.
Hello guys,
Ill take an order of hot wings and a Sweet Iced Tea please!
Hope everyone is off to a great day. Its 11:30 and a sunny 73 degrees outside.
HOPPLE: I like the courage pic the best.
Fergie: Its me Duce. I changed my screen name and its been about 2 years, but I remember how it works.
Tom: Where in California are you?
Jim: You have a point! He may have never had it. Phillip?
Lee: Sorry about the snow. I forgot what that was like. Good ol' sunny Southern California.
Phillip: We were not talking about coffee.
I hope you all have a nice day. Ill check back in later. I have some running around to do. Home Depot, Walmart, and Best buy. Ill talk to you guys later.
Can I get A refill to go please?
How about a sweet tea, and some time to look at the menu.
Well no flurries yet. Its cold but no flurries. Maybe soon.
Lets se, what I have done so far today. I weathered up a Railbox I have been working on since this weekend. I will probably work on the layout tomorrow. I need some ideas on a corner of my layout. I will probably look through some mags tonite for some idea.
Keep warm everybody. It seems to be cold all over the US.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
I was able to do some digging and came across my old screen name. So Ill go back to using this to cut back on " Who are you again?"
I hope I did not confuse anyone.

back, Colby - just about your busy time of year starting up for swim team, isn't it? Didja notice you got the TOP honors? Yay! Zoe, I'll have one of those Po'Boy's that Ryan's fixin', please - and a root beer float, too. Thanks!
So Colby, when can we hope for some layout pics? Sounds like you've been making more progress than a few of us (like me...)
DuceI hope I did not confuse anyone. Cary
Duce, some of us stay that way (confused) a lot...
It's been quite hectic for me here at w**k today. Luckily, they had some sandwiches left (in the fridge) downstairs from a meeting, or I'd have starved, waiting to get to one of Ryan's Po'Boys.
Jerry, I'd agree with JR, you have us curious about what that fine craftsman kit looks like. Awaiting pics, also. I forgot, is this that supermarket, or another building you're w**king on?
Lee, I hear you on the 'prototypical' track on my layout - I still need to tighten up my rail joints and make sure everything's in gauge yet. But that will come as I get ready for finishing up wiring and thinking about actually running trains(!)..
Gee, Duke's getting to be a chatterbox in the Diner lately (now that he got woke up from his 20-year nap) Hey, just kiddin', Duke - and I hope you get the CFO convinced on that big scale layout. Of course, you might need to get one of Lee's rotary blowers to clear off your track for the 7.5 scale Challenger.
Time to chow down, now that my Po'Boy's here (and Zoe? Could I have another RBF, please? Thanks.)
Blessings and some sun for your afternoon to thaw things out a bit,
Cary Jim: You have a point! He may have never had it. Phillip? Phillip: We were not talking about coffee.
Huh?
I've been doing a bit more work today.
