looking for prime mover models.

Ho scale prime movers.  I want to showcase an engine in a loco and in a shop at some point in this model railroading career I have started but have no idea where to find them.  Can you find it in a model building kit or can they be bought elsewhere.  I would like one in my rs-2 and another one for a spare.

I know a walthers shop kit comes with one, other than that, not off the top of my head. I plan on using actual Athearn motors in my shop...

The sane engine can be bought seperate. It's a 567 I think

Yeah if you can keep the pieces together when making the mold. But I;m not sure to get the detail and get close enough that the front pieces wouln't break off. The other aternative though is to cast the pieces or the pieces on the sprue.

They're $8. You'll probably have to spend 3 times that on resin and mold material.

567s are sane?  Thats not what alot of engineers tell me.

David,The 567 came in several sub classes so,no all 567s wasn't the "same" but,look alike and each had its own distinct sound.

You've already bought some, I take it, but I just wanted to point out that it's not that hard to build 2 or 3 of something off one design without making molds. Just cut out multiples of each piece.

One thing I have done with other parts (some restaurant booths, for instance) is plane and sand a strip of wood to a profile, then slice it up and build the rest on that base. You could do this with the central A-frame of the 567. (I think it's called that.)

just depends on how close to " real "  he wants. Most Alco had round access ports for crank inspection , so he'd have to sand off the square EMD hatches and makes some round ones. Like I said in my previous post , and you stated , just be creative and you'll do it !

As loathar said yeah I went through the whole process in a thread last year, be tough to write that all again. If you take your time and look at engine pix's you can make anything if you take the time.

I don't know how sane any of the 567s was but,the engine noise in the cab while starting a tonnage train could drive the crew insane.

Will do better ones in the future, just went DCC so I'm up to my armpits in alligators, converting units. The first one is really crude, got to do a better job on the heads and turbo.
