"City of New Orleans." My mom used to sing it to me when I was a kid.

The first one I heard as a kid was "I've Been Working on the Railroad." It's was never my favorite because that's when Disney's Davey Crockett was popular. Smile [:)]

My all time favorite has to be "City of New Orleans."

And for those switching moves:

Or anything by Björk or Testory.

"Baby got back" LOL. You're killing me Big Smile [:D]

If these old farts around here actually knew the lyrics of that song they'd kick you outta here.

I vote for anything NOT COUNTRY.

Janice Joplin: Me and Bobby Mcgee

Arlo Guthrie: City of New Orleans

Both of which played on the AM rock radio station while I was rebuilding my layout to it's "almost" current configuration. Whistling [:-^]

What's your favorite train song?
Posted by Johnnny_reb on Friday, June 6, 2008 12:40 AM

As I sit here tonight in front of my computer passing the time I found myself listening to mp3's and a train song came on. And I thought what was the first train song I remember knowing?

So, what was the first train song you remember? What I wish to know is the first song you can remember from your childhood other then "the little engine the could". What's the name of the song and who's the artist that sings it? Or a song that mentions a train or anything train related?  Not just train or train related in the name.

For me it's "The_Wreak_of_old_97" Artist unknown as I would have to go over to Mom's and dig out the old "LP" to find out. Then it's "Arlo_Guthrie_-_City_Of_New_Orleans"

What train songs are in your collection if you have a collection?.

My list on my computer;

Boxcar_Willie_-_Orange_Blossom_Special.mp3
Charley_Pride_-_Mississippi_Cotton_Picking_Delta_Town.mp3
Hank_Williams_-_I'm_So_Lonesome_I_Could_Cry.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_(I_Heard_That)_Lonesome_Whistle_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_A_Freight_Train_On_My_Mind_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Diesel_On_My_Tail_-_1967.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Fire_Ball_Mail_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_I_Like_Trains_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Orange_Blossom_Special_-_1968.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Pan_American_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Streamlined_Cannon_Ball_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Tennessee_Central_9_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_The_Golden_Rocket_-_1969.mp3
Jim_&_Jesse_-_Yonder_Comes_A_Freight_Train_-_1969.mp3
Johnny_Cash_-_Life's_Is_Like_A_Mountain_Railway.mp3
unknown_-_The_Wreak_of_old_97.mp3
Patsy_Cline_-_Life's_Railway_To_Heaven.mp3
Blackfoot_-_Train_Train.mp3
    "because of the intro"
Arlo_Guthrie_-_City_Of_New_Orleans.mp3
Roy_Acuff_-_Wabash_Cannonball.mp3
