alco's forever!!!!! Majoring in HO scale Minorig in O scale:)
This recently acquired C&O GP38 is my favorite of all though I really never had a favorite beforehand. I suppose the smooth running & the fact that it's the only engine I have that's in its original paint scheme makes it my favorite .... it really brings the past back !
I just couldn't live with the new look for such an old loco, so here's the " new " look .....
I guess I'm still waffling between my three 70 tonners (which I love!)...
and #103, a GP 9 which I rebuilt. It's a star performer.

Build your own: artist's matte board, or other similar heavy cardstock works well. Assemble it with a hot glue gun. You can buy various types of foam at most fabric stores, then cut it to suit using a utility knife. I find that the most secure boxes are those that have a separate lid, and those in which the loco stands upright, on its own wheels, inside the box. You can make one side of the box portion so that it folds down for access to the loco, although I've found that placing the loco in a loose cradle of the thin, flexible styrofoam sheet that's used under laminate flooring provides a convenient way to lift the loco from the box, and also adds protective cushioning.
Here are a few of my favourite locos:

Now here's a little beauty:

Lionel O Scale Chessie 8008. Was my late father's. Sits on a shelf, mostly. Very good memories.
From Top to bottom: 3,2,1.Maybe not a BigBoy, but a CofG 2-10-2 , N&W 2-8-8-2 and DMIR 2-8-8-4 Yeellowstone ain't bad.

Even though I'm a bit of a steam freak, these would have to be my favorite because of all the work I put into building and painting them.. #1104, 1104A, 1104B, technically a single diesel (set).

Favorite in roster? I don't think I have a single one, so here are a few instead.
ALCO RSD-12 by Tiger Valley.
PRR D-16SB 4-4-0 by Samhongsa/Westside.
Pre-war Royal Blue by American Flyer.
H8 2-6-6-6 Allegheny by Rivarossi.
Then there's that Challenger in my signature.
And there are so many more that I could put up here, but it would take up too much room.
I'd probably say this F-7. It started life as a cheap Bachmann trainset engine, I stripped the shell, added grab irons and the like from various sized staples, painted it, and then plopped it on a Bachmann FT W/ DCC chassis. Works and runs great. here's some more pics of it:
I just won another one of these on E-Bay, so now you can imagine this back to back!
I have a light mountain that I like to run. It still needs to be repainted and weathered, but it runs real nice.

Tough call, but I'll say my GP30s:
Other locos:
(took a while to choose, really, since the 30s gave me fits for a while; but now they are smooth as silk)

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Joe--
If any loco might even TEMPT me to go diesel, it's one of those SP SD-9's. That's one beautiful loco you've got there, and of course your Siskiyou Line is the perfect railroad to run it on.
Really NICE!
