I'll be in Kitchener, however, I'd love to fly to Calgary to join you Dave - THAT show sounds interesting.

PS: I am now taking donations to fund my flight and spending money for the Calgary show.

Hi,

I would like to go but work has other plans.  It is usually a very good show.  Also next weekend is a self guided model layout tour from the region.  Last year the admission was only $5 and it was a great day of fun with some beautiful layouts.

Here is the site http://www.trainweb.org/doubleheaders/dhsite.htm .

Hope everybody has a great time.

Hey Dave

What would I find different at the Calgary show compared to the Ontario shows? I know some of the big US shows, you find a lot of wild brass, freight cars, and buildings. I would be interested in flying out, if I knew what to expect

Thanks

I didn't find any good deals on loco's or rolling stock but I did pick up a book for 30 bucks on the NYC so I figure it was worth the half hour drive.

I picked up the Motorbooks NYC book. They are decent general info type books. I have the CN,CP and VIA books by them as well. They usually go for about $40 at Chapters or Cole's so all and all it wasn't too bad a deal. I looked at the new carbon cars, but I was undecided.More so on if I need them or not.

Oh you mean Otter Valley Railroad

I picked up my two carbons cars from OVR, and a few other things.

What did you think about their prices on that Proto 2000 stuff? I almos bought a few more locos that day, but the wife said no more. Any thoughts?

His prices were pretty good,he was trying hard to sell me a highhood undec GP30 with sound for what I thought was a ridiculously low price $139. I have no use for it and the wife was there as well,so I bought the book from Peter's trains and took her to St Jacobs for lunchWhistling [:-^] that way she didn't bug too much about buying another book. I'm actually luckey she's almost as deep into trains as myself she just doesn't like the prices.

I picked up a GP30 sounds beautiful. Ya I thought his prices were really good. That GP30 was a ridiculously good price. I thought about getting a pair, but just got one. But now that Im thinking. I think I am gonna call them, and get another one. They are trying really hard to bring new customers on. I spoke with the wife and husband, and they said people are only recpetive when they have specials like those proto 2000's.  A GP7 for $130 with sound brand new is a steal in my eyes, which I picked one up.

The store is located outside of London. In the Aylmer area. Just go to their website for a map and more information.

Thanks,it's a bit of a haul out of my normal range for going to hobby shops but it could be worked into a run down to Broughdale.

When I moved to the London area. I first went into Broughdale, I said to myself. Man his prices are out of line with the reality of the market. Over the coarse of a few months I found about OVR. I do price compare, trust me, Broughdale isn't even close on anything, unless your in a pinch for paints or some wild part, otherwise you will save a lot more. I did however find one thing Broughdale beat them on, they matched it, plus 10% off the difference again. Take my words of advice, they value customers so well. In the past year alone, I have purchased about 14k in trains from themselves. Now thats alot of trains, however they have treated me so well, and have been so flexible to my schedule, I can't thank them enough. Some weeks I work 65 to 100hrs a week, with my corporation. One time, they opened up at 9pm on Monday night just for me. They said alot of people work shifts, have busy lives and such and can't make the typical 9 to 5 day, so they offer special appointments for people. Plus there is a lot of nice places to eat down in Aylmer, sample wine or go the Lake for a day.

Thanks again. I too have always found the prices at Broughdale to be tough to swallow. I grew up in St Catharines and spent most of my hobby money at Niagara Central over the years. For along time they too were on the pricey side, but they have come down to reality. Here's hopping that someone, purchases Niagara Central and keeps them on the right path ( they've been for sale for a couple years now as Ray's getting on in years )It would be a real blow to  people in the area if he closes up.Nice to hear that the Otter Valley people are so flexible,as in today's world regular hours are only for bankers only.I log anywhere from 40-50 hrs a week myself.I can't say as I've ever been into Alymer, I think this summer we shall see what it's like.
