Yeah its attached to the house and is on the southern end of things.  And as luck would have it, I am already the proud owner of a dehumidifer.

Evening all!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi.  It's been a busy weekend, that's for sure.  My wife and I went out and bought ourselves some bikes.  Not motorcycles, pedaL bikes.  She got a pink three wheeler that she can ride while she's healing (therepy, ya know), and I got a real old school tanker bike, like they had in the '50's.  Then, just for laughs, we bought a tandem bike (bicycle built for two).  It's a hot rod bike with flames painted on it and stuff.  We also swung by the jewelry store and got some of her rings resized so that she can wear them more often.  Today we took the tandem out for a spin.  We took it up the road a few miles and stopped at a little shop to grab a coke.  It was fun, and we got a lot of compliments on it.  I'll get some pics of the new toys soon, maybe Tuesday since Monday is booked with work and school.

Jeff, I hope all goes well at the doc's tomorrow.

Prayers for all those dealing with weather and health issues.

So how's everyone else doing?

twhite: Sorry to disappoint you, I am going to the University of South Florida. In my defense, my church was run by Jesuits until they left three years ago, but we still have Jesuit High School.

LSW: Which part of the car are you looking at? This car was packed away in 1970 (or '79) by my neighbor, until she accidentally found it and gave it to me a few years ago.

EDIT: Upon further inspection I found out it does say New 3-67. What does that mean?

Good morning.

It's foggy out here by the lake this morning and it's a pleasant 73 degrees. It'll clear to mostly cloudy conditions and the high is expected to be in the low 90's.

I'll be heading out to Alexandria shortly for an eye exam which will probably take most of the day. I don't much like the idea of someone looking around inside my eyes with their finger on the trigger of a laser.

Good morning, steamy and hot this morning, 83F already and it's only 8:30, I guess we will hit 90's today OK. We had another trajedy on the CSX tracks again early this morning, a 23 year old was hit by a train at 3am. No idea what he was doing on the tracks that early in the morning. It was so hot yesterday that all I did was read MRR and Train mag and a few RR books. Today, I have to cut the grass, as this heat is not going to let up and we don't own a goat.

JEFF: Good luck this morning, praying for a safe and successful laser treatment.

TERRY: Prayers for you too Terry, keep strong and trust in God my friend.

I see the upper Mid West is getting hammered again with rain, Indiana with another 10" of rain, this is just plain crazy!!! Bush just declared many counties a Fed disaster area qualifying those flooded areas for relief money.

Later guys, have to get outside before the extreme heat of the day and verticle radiation.

Morning all--

Supposed to hit 95 out here in SunnyCal today--no wind, so that means that the Valley will be locked in with SUV fumes all day.  Can't wait! Angry [:(!].  Of course a predicted 95 means we'll probably go well over the Century mark by about three this afternoon.  North winds predicted for tomorrow, which means the fire danger will go over the top again.

Those terrible Midwest storms and flooding were relegated to page 14 of the local paper (Sacto Bee), so I had to hunt to find out what was going on.  I guess Indiana and Iowa are getting really slammed with flooding.  I called my daughter-in-law who lives in Rock Island right across the river from Iowa last night, she said that she and the grandchildren were okay, but tired of the weather.  It seems to be those Gulf of Alaska storms that aren't dipping low enough to hit us, so that our Sierras can take the brunt out of them.  They're moving too far north and dipping down and plastering the Midwest.  Evidently it's because of our El Nino or La Nina, or whatever it's called out in the Pacific, it's a kind of semi-permanent high ridge that's knocking the weather to the north, instead of dipping down in over the coast and drenching us like it's supposed to.   Couldn't believe the paper relegated it almost to the back page--but it's more important that we find out whether 'Bradgelina' REALLY had their twins, or something.

Okay, I'll get off of my SoapBox [soapbox]

Terry and Jeff:  Good luck at the doctor appointments today.  Drive carefully coming back, Jeff, and Terry, I hope those treatments dont' take TOO much out of you.  I liked that comment about 'glowing in the dark.'  Reminds me of my dad when he had his heart attack and had to take Nitroglycerine pills.  My mom told him, "For God's sake, Lloyd, don't stumble and FALL, you'll blow up!"

Railroadnut:  Ah, NOW I get it!  Now I know that there's more than ONE USF running around the country, LOL!  Have a good time there.  That library sounds fascinating!

Well, finally got the bridge-track laid.  Either I'm really slowing down or I'm getting VERY careful in my old age, because what normally would have taken about thirty minutes somehow got stretched into two days.  But it works.  Still haven't gotten my Topside Creeper yet, but maybe today--(he said, hoping).   So I spent the rest of the day at the kitchen table, tuning up a little 4-8-2 that I bought used a year or so ago and has this teeny-tiny little Sagami motor in it that gives it a top speed of about 35smph.  I think it's time for a trip to the LHS for a NWSL replacement that has a little longer shaft to it.  I've got about 1/2" of neoprene tubing between the motor and the gear-shaft, and it wobbles like crazy.  Though I have to admit it's kind of fun watching the loco 'waddle' down the track.

Well, I'm heading out to the garage to do a little work before the temperature gets too uncomfortable.  Have a great day, everyone.  Prayers to those in need of them--especially our friends in the Midwest.  I hope the weather eases up for you.

I just thought that I would drop in to say, "Hello".

Hope that you guys are getting a lot of layout time.  We operate our locos weekly, but not too much construction time. Larry's trestle is half built and at a standstill.

Larry has changed jobs.  We parked the truck and trailer and he is driving a company truck.   They put him in a new truck that still doesn't have permanent plates.  What a pain.  He is mostly driving between Oregon and BC, which runs him past the house more often.

Later,  Sue

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Good afternoon, I see the server is slow this noontime, at least here from central MA it is slow. It is hotter than a desert rats armpit here!!! Drinking anything I can get out of the frig thats cold while I cut the west 40. All done now, so we will take it easy this afternoon.

SUE: Good Lord is that Sue at the corner table???!!!!! Where have you been girl??? We missed you here !! That is one long trip for Larry isn't it? Oregon to BC? bout 250 to 300 miles? Is he a long distance trailer driver? Are we going to see him on the History Channel next as an Ice Road Trucker? LOL

JERRY: Glad to hear that things are getting back to normal, but I sure wish the rains would stop for you guys. I hope Sallie gets in for her procedure before anymore power outages occur!!!

Good afternoon, Zoe - I'll have the lunch special with the broccoli cheese soup, please!  Thanks!

Been out for a goodly chunk of the weekend, I just realized (after seeing all the posts I had to wade through Whistling [:-^]).

Good to see you back in the Diner, Sue - hope Larry gets his regular tags on that truck soon. Likely better for you two with the company paying his gas, the way diesel's been going. Maybe he'll get a day or two off after a while and be able to get back to that trestle.

We've been fortunate and have missed about all of that nasty weather the upper Midwest has been having - mostly our northern counties around here are the ones under watches over the weekend. But I will be glad when the front has cleared through - and the temperatures drop!

Dick, you better watch it, with mowing in the heat. Shock [:O] Don't overdo it there. You're getting weather more like Paul has down his way.

I wanted to write more, but will have to wait until I get back to w**k. My lunchtime's up, and I have some of my soup to finish yet. I have some comments to make on all the nice photos, too...

Will stop back in after I make an appearance at w**k. Meantime prayers for those in need (and for Jeff's eye doctor trip, and Inch's & Jerry's power not to go out again, and...).

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (where the temp is 92 F/33 C, and the humidity is a merciful 42 percent)

Good afternoon...

We arrive back late last night (2:00am) .. Son, DIL, and 2 granddaughters still very sad over loss of family dog as i mentioned earlier, but they have a lot of + stuff going for them.

I heard from JP ......."....Please let everyone in the CS know that my unit and I have arrived safely, and that I am now back in business of receiving and sending emails from this account....."  I believe it would be good if everybody emailed a short note to JP.

Best wishes to Jeff regarding his eyes and terry regrading his treatment.

Happy Model Railroading

Afternoon Gang: We're back from New Mexico. An all too short trip no time for doing any sight seeing. I did see the American Oriental Express in Albuquerque along with Amtrak and Rail Runner Express all in at once.

I've got to get back to loading so I'll stop in this evening.

Evening gang

just a tea for now. seems in my absence we had a duscussion about the merits of brit beer ( real ale) to clarify real ale is drunk slightly chilled but not to the extent of larger or Cider.

I myself will only drink Bass if having ale otherwise Larger thats why i liked the american brews when i was over. as for Friday i went on the cider as all largers sold were c***.Dead [xx(]

 hope this clarifies everything

Okay, back after lunch - how about a chocolate custard concrete, Zoe, please?

Thank you. Smile [:)] And might want to start getting ready to make some more. I might have the TOP, by the time I get my post done.

Nittany Lion - my condolences on learning that rule of MRR'ing the hard way. Here's your shirt for that, by the way:

All the talk about beer and that other yellow liquid (the one that doesn't taste very good) has me a bit confused - you mean, there's a difference? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Now a cold glass of OJ, that sounds very good to me!

Jerry, with 9.5" of rain, no wonder those tracks washed out! That's a bunch. Ditto about hoping that Sally can get to her treatment okay and without any power outages. Sounds like in the meantime, you're snapping up the bargains in the auctions, though. Thumbs Up [tup]

BridgeTom, you better be careful or those Yellowstones will get jealous of your new tall interloper there and gang up on her! Shock [:O] Glad to hear your pollen has been less today.

Garry, thanks for the word on JP arriving in the sandbox okay. I'd agree on sending him email (will be doing that once I get home tonight). That idiot with the hit and run at your party should be tracked down. Anyone get his plate number?

Inch, good to hear you weren't washed away with the tracks up there. I trust that your campground has good drainage around it and all, yes?

Yeah!! [yeah], right, RRNut!...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Hey, to be a decent MRR'er, you have to have at least a little nerd in ya - right, Diners? Hope your enjoy your courses and learn a lot!

Keep going back for those treatments and hanging in there, TexasTerry. Do you get to take a MR mag or book with you to read (during the treatment or before/after)?

We'll be awaiting word back on how Jeff's eye doctor visit went today. I'm not sure if my doctor dilates my eyes or not - I know it seems like he always puts some kind of drops that burn, into my eyes before he looks at me with that blue light. Wonder if he gets that gizmo from K-Mart? Whistling [:-^]

PC, those bikes sound like fun (for you and your wife) - fun and you get some exercise, too! Can you ride a bike to work (hey, with the price of gas, that might be a good idea...)

TrainsRMe - sounded like a good parade party you had. Around here when the university has their Homecoming parade, it's almost as much fun to watch the people at the side of the parade route as to watch the parade!

Good to see you in again, Luc - don't be a stranger, and give Gloria a hug for us! Yeah!! [yeah]

Tonight's MRR club night, and I got word that about all of my MRR order is in. Oops [oops] Better go by the credit union and make a withdrawal...

Time for me to get back to what passes for w**k today. It's been a day to find things to do. Only saw one client in walk-in, and not much since then. Not that I'm complaining, mind ya! Tomorrow we're supposed to have training all day - in the morning about outpatient paperw**k and in the afternoon for on-call/crisis w**k. The Center's even buying us lunch! Dinner [dinner]

Everyone take care of yourselves - and those of you up north of me, stay away from those twisty clouds, okay? Prayers for those in need.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well, the doc at the Alexandria Eye and Laser Center didn't get to play with his laser today, at least not on my eyes. The swelling that was present in them three months ago has greatly reduced since the original laser treatment. The bleeding at the back of the eyes has been reduced considerably as well. This is mostly due to me being very careful about what I eat. Some foods that are good for others are not so good for me. Wheat bread is one example. One slice of wheat bread will blow my blood sugar level through the roof! It's at the top of the glycemic index for bread. White is next down on the list followed by rye, then sourdough and finally Pumpernickel, at the bottom of the index. I've developed quite a taste for German style Pumpernickel bread.

Evening,

Pouring cats and dogs outside!

Jeff, glad to hear things are going well with your eyes.

Railroadnut, yea that sounds right for a hopper car, I couldn't make out the date very well in the picture.  Now that's not the year the model was built, if you look at prototype rolling stock you should see ‘Built 3-67" or "New 3-67" or whatever year the car was built.  The only thing I've seen still on the tracks pre 1980's up here is gondola cars.  Seems they only keep some of these cars around for 30 years then they get scraped.

Signals on a layout? I'm using Semaphores, but then I'm a steam buff and there is a bit of a challenge in rigging animated semaphores on the layout.

Good Evening Diners!

Jeff, Glad to hear your eye exam went well and that you are taking good care of them. I still haven't noticed a couple of RV parking spots in the park for Johnboy and I but I guess it's just a seasonal thing. Great job though and as far as the weathering goes, I stand by my earlier statement that you are the weathering wizard. I have some Athearn BB rolling stock that I got in the late '50's that I now classify as weathered. By the time my latest acquistions are at that state I'll be about 110 years old.

Lee, Well I'm glad you weren't inspecting on my dock as my boat certainly wouldn't pass. My flares were made some time in the previous century but we rarely use the boat now and we only go  few miles from the harbour so I don't think we're taking much risk. The VHF still works at least.  We have a CG station right beside the club but I'm out so rarely that we haven't been inspected for at least 10 years.

I found out some great news this week-end about the little tourist RR that operates out of Winnipeg called the Prairie Dog Central. They have a 4-4-0 built in 1882 that has just completed a major re-build and will be back in operation this summer. While it looks like an American loco in fact it was built in Scotland for the CPR. They also operate an ex-GTW diesel that looks like a GP7 but I think it is too new(1958) for that model.

It seems that rain is the order of the day for much of the continent and we are no exception. It started about 2 a.m. and has just stopped now at 8 p.m. Cool too at only 55F.

I was reading a publication called CN Lines put out by a CN historical society this week-end and found out that CN had a few USRA light Mikados.  As BLI is supposed to re-issue theirs this year I think one would look great on the  Mortimer sub.  A Pacific would be even better but there are no good reasons to not buy additional locomotives that fit the operation and are even remotely close to protoype. After all it's our duty as model railroaders to have as many locos as possible. In fact it is likely our mission.

 See you soon,

CN Charlie

Whistling [:-^]

Good evening gang,

Just a root beer float in my CZ mug, thanks Chloe.

That is good news Jeff, be sure to keep those eyes and feet working. You have to be able to get to the LHS and to see what you are painting. So far youre doing great.

Boy our Indiana and mid-west buddies need any hip waders that you can spare. What a wet years this has been for you guys and gals.   Our best wishes and prayers for those affected.

Here is a funny little story that I though that Sue should have sent in. Maybe she hasn't seen it yet so I will send it for her.   Enjoy ---

TRAIN TICKET

Three women and three men are on their way to travel by train to the
football game.  At the station, the three men each buy a train ticket and
watch as the three women buy just one train ticket.

'How are the three of you going to  travel on only one ticket?' asks one of
the men.

'Watch and learn,' answers one of the women.

They all board the train. The three men take their respective seats but all
three women cram into a toilet together and close the door. Shortly  after
the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets.  He
knocks on the toilet door and says, 'Ticket, please. The door opens just  a
crack, and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand.  The conductor takes
it and moves on.

The men see this happen and agree it was quite a clever idea; so, after  the
game, they decide to do the same thing on the return trip and save some
money. When they get to the station they buy a single ticket for the return
trip but see, to their astonishment, that the three women don't buy any
ticket at all!!

'How are you going to travel without a ticket?' says one perplexed  man.

'Watch and learn,' answer the women.

When they board the train, the three men cram themselves into a toilet, and
the three women cram into another toilet just down the way.  Shortly after
the train is on its way, one of the women leaves her toilet  and walks over
to the toilet in which the men are hiding. The woman knocks  on their door
and says, 'Ticket, please.'

I'm still trying to figure out why men ever think they are smarter  than
women.Dunce [D)] Laugh [(-D] Big Smile [:D]

Well I have a couple of days off and I sure need them, however my honey-do list is pretty lengthy, so I don't see much rest in store.   Will try and get in in the next couple of days.

Keep smiling ya all.........
