Good Evening Diners,
This certainly has been a busy place the last couple of days!
I have just managed to repair a leaking garden hose which sounds like an incredibly simple task but took 5 trips to the basement for different hose clamps, washers, etc. and about an hour to do. I blame the cheap hose end that just didn't fit right.
I read a post by GMT a while ago and have a question for JR. He mentioned a Lotus Seven and I was wondering if that would be a Super Seven? A good friend of mine had one in the early '70s and it was an insane vehicle. About a thousand pounds with a 1600 cc. Cortina engine that had 2 huge side draft Weber carbs. Up to 60 mph it could dust just about any muscle car there was at the time. I was generally terrified riding in it especially passing a Mini on the inside of a curve or just looking over and realizing that my head was at the same level as the top of other car's tires.
Can anyone send us some rain? It is very dry here even though it isn't what you would call hot.
See you soon,
CN Charlie
Good evening, on my way out, thought I;d mention my day's work. I spent today putting together 2 roundhouse kits, a caboose in Monon (almost accurate, missing the bay copula (sp)) and an Overttyon Coach. Who knew you needed to know how to so to assemble a coach?
Gnight

Tom
Or we could Tug o' war. I bet I'd win. Yellowstone versus big boy.
Thank you 5 lbs of diecast and 4 traction tires...
Good evening....busy day with weather so nice. The big maple tree that was cut down last Fall is finally out of the ground. Man those trees have a lot of roots, but thankfully no tap root.
Spend part of the day checking for best Decoder for the Athearn GP-35. Several choices for motor control, and for sound. I'd like them on one decoder, some mfgr's only make motor control, while others only have sound decoder.
ED,JP: The Red Sox are in full stride now, and the good news gets better, the Yankees lost to Cleveland ..YES !!!
See you guys at Breakfast...
Good Evening All,
Just back from the museum. I'll have a coffee to stay awake long enough to post please Chloe. Spent the evening ballasting the new O gauge and got about half the main line done. I used black beauty blasting media and it looks good if a bit shiny for now. We'll try to post a couple of pics for you. First is the front of the new O gauge layout
This is a closeup of the ballast and the Ross track
The N gauge museum layout I've also been busy with the last few months
CN Charlie. The Lotus 7s I have is a 1960 series 1 with a 1098cc Coventry Climax engine wire wheels and all aluminum bodywork. It weighs 860 lbs more or less. I don't drive it on the street. The customer 7's we take care of are also series 1's with a variety of motors, none over 1490cc. If I can figure out how to load a pic I will. Time to get some shuteye, catch y'all tomorrow. J.R.
Yikes! Top of the page!
Tuck in and just tell Chloe to put it on my tab, I'll smoke the credit card later.
Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Good morning all,
I'm a little behind in posts, but I'll try to catch up today.
I slipped a disk and pulled a muscle in my lumbar and caught a cold. Not a nice combination, but the Doc gave me a couple cortisone shots and some awesome medications. The Sports medicine guy wasn't in the office so no back manipulation but while the girl was taking x-rays of my back everything went back to its original position (I think). Maybe by this weekend I can do some work to the layout.
The 1,000 gallons of used motor oil I cleaned up out of the river is still haunting me; we had a little more product slip out from under the rocks. So today I'll be meeting with the contractor to have the absorbent booms traded with clean ones.
This has been a bad month so far, 3 friends passed away, and a fourth was told by his doctor that he only has 2-4 weeks to live.
CN, you can have some of our rain. Rained most of last weekend and it looks like we are in for a good rain Thursday-Sunday. I'll loan you my bucket, LOL
Twhite, in this month's model railroader one of the full page advertisers is selling auxiliary water tenders for $4. If you don't see it let me know and I'll do a little digging tonight.
Ok time to go to work...

Morning, all - just a quick stop for now. (Starting to look like today might be busier than yesterday) Zoe, I'll have a cup of mocha to go, please. Thankyou, ma'am.
To my surprise, today I not only had my regular payday in the credit union account, but my MRR stimulus deposit arrived two days early in the other (bank) account! Yippee!! Now to decide what to get with it... Hmmm....
See everyone later,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Good morning, sunny and 63F here this morning, and very low humidity. Today the 1988 wheel horse tractor will have it's Spring maintenance performed. The grass needs cutting now, so I have get my a** in gear and get this done asap with more rain and showers due tomorrow afternoon and Friday.
Then, I need to order Decoders for new Atlas S4 and Athearn GP35. The day is all planned out, now lets see if there are any "surprises" that re-route the locomotive today.
See you guys at lunchtime,
Morning again....Its raining here..we put 4 matters out friday and some flowers and they can use some rain....
JR...Thats a neet looking station built on curve on N scale layout...I'd like to see some more Photos of it...
Bill....How is your retirement going?
Jeff...Looking forward to seeing your tank car weathering..You did a bang-up job on the Rail Box....
Here is my new [new to me] NKP SW 8 and a 80 foot Dinner that i finnished rehabing yesterday...It was a fairly easy one mainly just trucks..I am going to take Santa Fe lettering off but not sure of road name...I realy don't have curves to run 80 footer so it will probaly end up on shelf...I am not going to put new couplers on them as they probaly will never be switched just run as a whole train...
Jim you ask yesterday about possible expansion Doesn't look good...I think i have about all the space the CEO is going to let me have here is living room..LOL
You all have a good one....Jerry

The weathering of the Bachmann tank car is done. Here are some before and after shots.
Morning all--
Supposed to be in the high 70's today here in SunnyCal and breezy. Which means pollen flying all over the place and I'm already sneezing. Ah, the Central Valley--our area made the grade as being even MORE polluted than LA. Geez, what OTHER interesting 'records' can we come up with, LOL!
Lee: Sorry to hear about your 'triple whammy--disc, muscle and a cold all at the same time--that is not funny at all. Prayers for a quick recovery. Didn't see the article in MR about the auxiliary tenders, but I'm wondering if they're the N&W style rectangular ones that Bachmann puts out. Rio Grande used older tank cars instead, mainly on the Moffat Line in order to let their Mallets bypass water stops on that nasty stretch of 2% from Denver to Moffat Tunnel. I thought they'd look cool behind a couple of my smaller Mallets--the 2-6-6-0 and my USRA 2-8-8-2.
Jeff--anxious to see the weathering job on the tank car. Keep us posted, okay?
Well, spent the day yesterday painting the Basket Case. Looks pretty good, if I do say so. I'll decal it today and then put it back together tomorrow. Had to mix my own shade of Graphite for the smokebox and firebox--Rio Grande used a fairly unusual dark-silver graphite that isn't available commercially, so I mixed my own concoction from Floquil. Looks pretty close--at least good enough for me. I'll post a 'before' and 'after' this weekend.
Also picked up a low-temp hot glue gun, using part of that gift certificate that the guys got me as a retirement present. Now all I have to do is wait for that ton of Cripplebush rubber rocks to come in--should be here by the weekend. And in the meantime, I picked up a kit for a neat pair of old-timey conveyer belts for my newly installed ash-pit, so I've got plenty of little projects to work on for a while.
Well, better go out and start soaking decals, LOL! Have a great day, everyone.
Oh, BTW--Hoople: FIVE POUNDS of Big Boy? I concede, LOL! My Yellowstones only weigh four. And no traction tires (of course, they don't need them .

Jeff--
Got it! We must have been posting at the same time. Nice job!! Another reason that I never understood why Shell always chose bright orange for a tank car, LOL!
Hi, Zoe - how about a Dr. Pepper for now, please? Thanks.

Tom & Jeff, I'm not sure how prototypical the one I have is (after reading your posts), but I have an older Athearn BB Shell tanker that's a yellow color (forgot if it's a triple or single top). Did Shell make them in different colors?
Jeff, I like your weathering! What color are you using for those rust specks, by the way? Looks good!
Jerry, that diner looks sharp - shame to not run it once in a while. Can you do some extra things for Sallie to butter her up? (Just trying to think of a way for you to expand...)
Still trying to decide how to use my MRR/economic stimulus money - I want to replace my laptop (with another used of the same model), but will have some MRR funds left after that. Probably will want to think and about it so I don't splurge it all too quickly.
Blessings on your day,
Jeff, that may be your best weathering job yet! Very nice!
Might I suggest that the bottom black portion of the tank itself get weathered a bit more? It looks almost too clean compared to the rest of that fantastic paint job.
I have some good prototype pics to use as a guide if you'd like...........

Yup! and the older we get the more they seem to get hurt, my mind wants to run like an antelope, but my body keeps telling me elephant!

Ya got that right Jim! Where can I find the "wayback" machine and turn my body back into it's younger form, but keep my memory what it is today?

What are you talking about CN, that has never happened to me.... ....a project taking 4X longer to finish than planned or 10X the work because I did'nt have all the parts in one place......na.....not me....
Say Lee, take care of that back now, and it does sound like a bad combination too!
Sorry to hear about your friend Garry, thoughts and prayers for her!
Hey Jeff your weathered rolling stock is starting to build a reputation now! Are we going to see your items for sale on eBay anytime soon?
I like all the photography and layout and modeling updates that you guys been posting

OK Jerry, there is only one thing left to do if the CFO won't give up and more LR space......you start planning an addition to the house. Now she probably won't like that either, so you tell her that you are going to move your layout OUT of the LR so that she can have the entire room back and maybe even remodel it ( see women like to do those things and they all excited ). You will have a nice room all to yourself. Additions are easy, and you can do most of the work yourself. Just get someone to do the tie in rough work, and you can do the inside sheetrock, electrical, heating expansion...piece of cake Jerry.

Afternoon Gang: I just noticed that I opened and closed page 78. Do I get anything special for that like maybe a discount?
The storms haven't arrived yet but we are under several weather warnings. There was some rain this morning.
Jeff the tank car really looks good. The trucks are just right. I agree with dick that the bottom of the tank needs a little bit. You are good.
We're all going in to Ft. Worth for supper tonight. We'll also stop at a woodworking store and look for a router bit to make the trim that I can't find.
Lee I hope that you are feeling better. I'm sorry to hear about your friend and the others. I just went through that and it isn't easy. Did you ever check into USAA for cainsurance? I got with them 41 years ago when I was made a Warrant Officer. Back then it was for officers and warrants only. Now they have aprogram for NCOs. They are very good.
I'll stop back in later.
What's going on here. Where is everyone? The diner is on page two which is unacceptable. So...... BUMP.
See you all later.
Paul W. Beverung wrote: What's going on here. Where is everyone? The diner is on page two which is unacceptable. So...... BUMP. See you all later.
Sorry, Paul. I was out in my California Basement getting my Basket Case Yellowstone put back together after painting it (it looks okay), working on my new ash-pit, then adding some details to my Tichy gondola kit (the ash-pit car), then painting my new old-timey conveyers for the ash-pit, then wondering why my Keyboard decided to quit. Been quite a day, LOL! Borrowed a keyboard from my neighbor, who has a garage full of 'em, but this one sucks air, so it's off to Business World, or whatever my local computer company is called, to get a new keyboard tomorrow.
Hey, if this is what the first three days of retirement is going to be like, I think I might go back to teaching just to rest up, LOL!
Evening Gang:
Tom it looks like you're getting to see what Dick and I were talking about. Have patience it gets worse, er I mean better.
we had a great supper and some good entertainment. The kids went home to get the baby and let grandma go home. Now it's to bed. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to do some MRRing.
Good Night All
