Jim--

OHMYGAW, how did you get hold of one of Spooky's kitten pictures, LOL?  That's so funny--she used to lie like that all the time.  Of course, since she's become a Lady, she wouldn't be caught dead in a pose like that--she has PAPERS, you know, as she's constantly remind me, LOL!

Well gang--spent the WHOLE day out on the Buttes--got a lot done, so I thought I'd bore you with the photos.  The first batch is of the molds--looks a lot like Ice Cream, the second batch is after I went in and sprayed (yes, SPRAYED) the initial coats on.  Of course, there's a lot of work to do yet on them, but the initial work went faster than I thought, simply because the Sculptamold set up VERY fast in our dry 85+ temperatures, today.

Anyway, here the are.  The original Ice Cream Sculptamold:

And a closeup of Cat Butte:

Then shots after I got the initial coats on--still have to work in the weathered rock with Bragdon.  I used gray, grimy black, tan and rust for the initial colors.

BTW--Cat Butte was NOT planned, it's just the way it turned out after I removed the mould.  Decided to keep it that way, rock ears and all.  Lotsa work to do on them, but I'm ALMOST finished.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a coney dog and a root beer float, please!

Thanks! Dinner [dinner]

Jerry, I like your flat car - I'm like Tom, in that I need to learn how to weather better so my cars don't look so brand new. Good job on that one!

Packers#1, hope you remembered to take (and use) your sunblock, so you aren't a 'crispy critter' when it's time to head home. Shock [:O]

Tom, that wouldn't sound like a pleasant situation if you have to bring your Mom's cats over to stay a while. Could you temporarily put yours (or your Mom's) up with a friend for the stay, if it doesn't run too long? And where do you find those 48-star flags? I will be needing a few of those myself.

Paul, is that price for baling what people pay the folks who bale the hay, or what people pay for the hay once it has been baled? I know nothing about the price of hay (or baling).

Jeff, I guess you could paint some braces on that figure if you wanted to put yourself "in the park." Wink [;)] With your usual humidity and temps in the summer there, I'm sure working outside sucks the energy out of you - it does for me when it gets humid and hot around here. Those signs sound like a good touch for the park.

RT, good to hear the job's going well - and hope you get enough interest among the vets so they can have a room for a layout there. Keep it up - I'm sure the vets appreciate you!

Longish day - had one call to county jail this a.m. that ended up finally getting (I think) resolved by 4 p.m. this afternoon. Had problems with the person's charges not being 'severe' enough for the state's prison psych. facility to take him (they'll only consider sending someone there who has class A felony charges), another state facility didn't have the staff for the person's situation (needed closer supervision than usual), and a third one was sort of trying to claim the person's charges were too 'severe' for the person to be sent to them. (Mutter, mutter... Banged Head [banghead]) And, we were running out of time to get the judge to sign off on the court order, since (naturally enough) he wanted to head out for the holiday weekend. I'm just hoping I don't get a follow-up call from the on-call tonight. (Whew!)

Looking forward to this longer weekend and enjoying it. [Ahhhh.....Big Smile [:D]]

Blessings and prayers for those in need of healing, comfort and peace,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

The park goes well. I still have to add some touches to it. Things like signs. I'm thinking about making one that says 'CHILDREN, PLEASE KEEP YOUR PARENTS OFF THE LOCOMOTIVE!'. Another one will say 'NO MOTOR VEHICLES ALLOWED. NO EXCEPTIONS!'.

Morning Gang: I'm just stopping for a late cup of coffee.

Not alot going on today. I may take a ride out to Clark Gardens and see about that field that they want us to bale. Hay is getting pricy down south of us. They haven't had alot of rain. From what a friend of John's said they haven't even done there first bailing. The price of Bailing up here has gone up to $28 to $30 per bail. That's what hay was bringing a year ago.

Rob I hope that the dealer can get things working better. Another problem we have with it is it leaves a long piece of twine sticking out after wrapping the bail. Sometimes 10 to 20 feet of it. When we haul that will drag on the ground and get caught under a tire or on a fence post and unwrap half the bail.

Flash I used to do French and Indian War and Fur trade rondevious. I've got a Brown Bess that is really a good shooting piece. It's a Pedersoli kit that I got a real good deal on from Tandys. Thay had it on there shelves for a long time. The barrell was really bad the bore was very very rough. I swamped it out with a drill motor and emery cloth and WD-40. At 50 yds I can put 10 shots in the middle of a paper plate. Do you guys use paper cartidges?

I'm going to head out and see what the family wants to do this afternoon.

See you all later.

Well, since it looks like I'm buying again, I'll have a bacon and cheese omelette (heavy on the Cheddar, thanks) and some Vienna Roast.

Delta Breezes again today, supposed to hit the high '80's around the Valley.  We're fairly smoke-free, but the foothills have gotten whacked with poor visibility and bad air.  If it keeps up, I may have to bring both Mom AND my sister back down here from Nevada City until it clears up.  Not that I mind, but I have no idea what I'll do with their two cats--I don't think Spooky and Lowell would like THAT kind of feline invasion, LOL!  Especially Mom's cat--that's the nastiest little 7-pound critter I EVER met.

Bad news from the firelines--Big Sur has been COMPLETELY evacuated, the fire jumped the lines yesterday evening.  Another one started to the south near Santa Barbara.  Right now, Northern California has close to half a million acres burned.  Firefighters are close to exhaustion, they're rotating on and off on a three-week basis now--no end in sight.

AND to top it off, we had 3 fires here in Sacramento yesterday caused by kids setting off 'safe and sane' fireworks!  Hoo boy!  I'm spending the Fourth right here with a garden hose, thank you.

Johnboy:  There WILL be an American flag on the Buttes, fear not.  48 stars, since that's the era I'm modeling.  It'll be on a tall pole right with the Forest Service lookout tower.

Cox:  Looks like a nice job on that Pennsy flat-car.  One of these days I'll get REALLY brave and attempt some weathering on my freight cars.  I really admire people like you and Jeff who do weathering--my attempts always look like the car spent six decades in the Sahara.

Jeff:  How goes the park?  You know, the more I think of it, I've decided that your A/C actually looks like a couple of buildings I've seen in San Jose in the Silicon Valley area, LOL!  I still like that new KCS paint-scheme.  Is that going to be official for that railroad now?  Sure is striking.

Didn't get much done on the Buttes yesterday--it got kind of hot and still during the afternoon, so I'll see if I can do some more, today.  Let me tell you, putting scenery OVER scenery is NOT a Fun Project.  But thank God for the Creeper, otherwise I WOULD be doing what that character in the MR cartoon is Whistling [:-^]

Best to all, prayers for those in need.

Rob, as far as I know on my heritage, I have German on my Dad's side (one great-great-great-somebody fought under Wellington at Waterloo, I found out), Welsh, and possibly some Irish on my maternal grandmother's side (her maiden name was Shaw, and that's generally Irish, I guess). I think I get my sense of humor from Mom's side of the family, since we Germans don't seem to be known for that (Dad's side tended to be electrical and civil engineers, dentist - nice  boring intellectual jobs).Wink [;)]

Rob, do what you like, but I'd have probably nudged the drafter of the plans if it was his mistake, to at least give me a price break for that. YMMV...

Was looking at the unpainted Preiser figure set last night, and trying to figure how I could modify some and get some use on them (even in my Southwestern locale). They look more European than American in the clothing and general style. Ah, well...Sigh [sigh]

We're maybe going to get some rain today - weatherguessers pretty much said north and south of us are likely to have some - guess that means we are less likely, huh?

Paul, hope your dealer gets the baler adjusted back to specs for you. It does sounds like a long summer, with all the fields you're baling. Rob, have you placed your order for hay with Paul yet? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'll get to my breakfast for now. Hope everyone's feeling okey-dokey today.

Blessings on your day before Independence Day (nice shot you found there, Johnboy!),

I won't make it for your holiday but will be in Spokane next week.  But tomorrow I will tip up a long cold Root Beer and wish each of you guys and gals a Happy Day and a healthy and prosperous year to follow.   Sign - Oops [#oops]   That kind of sounds like New Years,  but I mean it anyway.

TOM:    Remember to plant a flag (preferably USA )  on top of those Buttes.

Off to bed now, one more day of work and then that's it until the 25th.

Remember, no drinking and driving, we want you all back safe and sound after the holiday. Would find it hard to get along without your chit-chat and "DUMB" jokes. Lol...

Austrian, German, Czech and Cornish, here.  And no, Cornish is NOT English.  Just ask any 'Cousin Jack,', LOL!

Bad joke, but I can get away with it:  Know why the Soviet Empire finally crumbled?  Their "Czech's" kept bouncing.

Okay, I'll go back to work on the Buttes, now.  Whistling [:-^]

Paul: Yep, he's pretty proud of his beard. We do Rev War era re-enactments, so it has a fun purpose. he's also modified it for the role of Morton.

And that's the future site of Half Moon behind him.

Rob: Still don't think you should have paid much of anything for the second drawing. his goof, out of his pocket. Oh well.

Speaking of ma "old man" Doc doesn't think he's making enough progress with the infection, so the we're pushing back another week. Oh joy Shy [8)]

ANd in other news, I've managed to screw up my BL2 Demo. Apperently there was something wrong  with the gloss coat, cause it brought out some silver speckles not otherwise noticeable (I know it;s supposed to do that) but when I went to remask the loco, the painter's tape pulled part of the decal off. And this is why I prefer RTR. It's a FRED of a lot harder for me to screw up...

Thanks for the well wishes everyone.  For those that asked, no date has been set yet.  I always thought a spring wedding would be nice.  This will be the second time for both of us so it will probably just be a small immediate family type thing.  I am thinking about asking her 16 year old son to be the best man, just to help let him know he will be part of the new family too.

And I'll just have a root beer float before bed, Flo.

Rob it's good that you got that tooth out. You may miss it for a bit but you get used to it.

We got the hay hauled and in the hay lot. Now I need to go out and pick up the hay that fell off the bales. That new bailer is not doing a good job. It goes into the dealer for a servicing and had better work better.

Fergie nice loco. An't brass nice?

No MRR stuff. I maybe able to get some reading done now that the hay is taken care of. Oh now we have to move out to Clark Gardens and bail that and then to Johns place and do his. It's going to be a long summer.

In other news, the Hassenpheffer is here, and my sister won't let him out of sight. But she goes off to camp soon, and he will be left to me and my other sister...Mischief [:-,] .

I read an interesting book lately called Chasing the Falconers; part of a series about a bro and sis who's parents have been wrongly accused of treason after terrorists stole their research. After their parents get life snetences, they are sent to a prison farm in Nebraska, since no one will take them because of the scandal. One night during an accidental fire, they break out and go on a cross country adventure to prove their parents innocence. Very interesting, fast-paced and exciting. Better yet, there's a train scene (they hop one from Nebraska to Chicago).

My dad is flying up to Memphis to buy a car, and will miss the 4th of July while DRIVING IT BACK!!! Today my mom and I are buying some awesome fireworks. For the second most important part of the 4th, I recommend: Junior Cuckoos, Piccolo Petes, Screamers, Artillery Shells, American Freedoms, Roman Candles, Tanks, Jets, Helicopters, Bottle Rockets, and Fire Crackers.  Happy B-Day [bday] America

Ask if you need descriptions about the fireworks.

In the meantime, I have 25 pages of Geometry problems to do for summer work, and 75 questions about a book I read for school. Dad wants them done by tonight, AND I HAVENT EVEN STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Banged Head [banghead]

Afternoon, Zoe - time for my usual RBF - Oh, wait! You know what I haven't had for a long time? A chocolate chip frozen yogurt concrete, please.

Anyone else want a concrete? Dinner [dinner]

Tom, I promise we didn't write MR to have them draw that cartoon just for you, really! But it does remind me a little of that one Mission Impossible movie... Maybe that's where they got the idea. Good to hear things are clearing up in your area, and I hope they stay cleared up for quite a while. Colorado, huh? That should be a fun trip, and we will be awaiting photos once you get back. Yeah!! [yeah] Sorry to hear about Lowell's health - I remember when you introduced him in the Diner to everybody (best-behaved cat I've seen).

Rob, hope your mouth gets feeling more like it should (and tasting less like cotton) soon. Your ulterior motive on the house construction makes perfect sense to me. Yeah!! [yeah]Thumbs Up [tup] You're right, that salmon  and shrimp that Ryan's grilling does smell awfully tempting. (Maybe you can distract him and...Whistling [:-^])  Oh, nothing, Ryan - not talking about anything in particular, why do you ask?

Oh, speaking of July Fourth activities - the fair city of Cape Girardeau usually has a Riverfest (which has become a July 4th thing the last couple of years) - with food booths, some downtown streets blocked off, and shooting off fireworks from a barge on the Illinois side of the river across from the city. Around that time also, there's been an air show at our local airport, with hot air balloons on Friday night (and a race on Sat. a.m., skydiving teams, and biplanes, A-10 Warthogs and (one year) a Stealth bomber even. Well, because the floodgates are closed currently (kind of blocking the view across the river a bit), they decided to combine the airshow and Riverfest activities out at the airport this year. Should be good, except I'll be elsewhere, and I'm sure the traffic and parking at the airport will be (ahem...) a MESS (tm). I'll have to check the local paper and other sites come Monday and see what pics they have from it. (I'll be sending the royalty check for you, FergieWink [;)]).

For Friday afternoon/evening here, I've spoken with Vinnie, and I understand there will be some 'aerial displays' outside of the Diner for Diners' viewing pleasure. Can't give you more details; Vinnie said if he told me, he'd have to... uh, well.. let's just say that rather than that, I'd like to be around the Diner for a while (above ground, not as part of the foundation).

I'll be sipping on my concrete at the corner booth.

That salmon & shrimp Ryan is grilling is driving me crazy, and I can't do a thing about it. Guess I'll just have a EAS drink, please & thanks.

The builder called today, but I still can't really talk with gauze in my mouth, so will let the wife return his call later. We've about decided to do as much as we can ourselves. Of course I have my own motive for doing so: with the money I can save, perhaps a bit more can go towards the train room.Wink [;)]

Wife spent all day taking her dad to see some specialist, Tomorrow she takes her mother to see another Doc. Wish she didn't have to get stuck doing all this. Such is life.

Healing thoughts to those in need. Tom, real sorry to hear about your train cat Lowell.

Morning all, from SmokyCal.

Well, not so smoky here in the Valley anymore, thank God--but that Big Sur fire is still giving everyone down there fits--it was two fires, now it's joined into one BIG one (60,000 acres or so) and anyone who has ever been down to Big Sur knows how rough and impenetrable that country is.  They re-opened Highway 1 from what I understand, but it's still a tough go down there.  The local newspaper here--Sacto BEE--was carping today about the fact that most of the campgrounds will be closed over the Fourth--well, of COURSE they will--they're practically all burned UP!  I mean--DUH--!

Most of the other fires here in the north state are either under control or contained, but then we've got the Fourth coming up--and the fireworks--I may have to go into Hibernation again.  Hope not.

Got Mom back home yesterday, so hopefully today I'll be able to go out and work some more on the Creeper (that MR joke just FRACTURED me, BTW).

Jeff:  That KCS hopper is sure handsome!  I really like those KCS colors--very distinctive.  Is it going through the weathering shop or are you going to leave it 'brand new'?  Also glad to hear that your feet are healing, even if its a slow go.

Rob:  Got rid of the tooth, huh?  Sometimes it's cheaper in the long run just to have the darned things yanked, then put up with all of the misery of a root canal.  Hope you recuperate VERY soon, buddy.

Attaboy:  Congratulations.  Has she set a date for the wedding yet?  Remember, all you have to do is show up, the rest of it's all about HER, LOL!  Seriously, I'm happy for you.

Jim:  No, I'm not back at work yet.  That doesn't happen until about the middle of August.  I still have to meet with the Principal and the Department Chair to hash out the details of what my reduced schedule will be--we teach on a Revolving Block schedule, so it will depend on how many classes I have during what days of the week.  I'm hoping for a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule, but again, it depends on class rotation.  So I STILL have time to get to Colorado this summer and ride those cute little narrow-gauge trains.

Some bad news--my male Train Cat, Lowell, has kidney failure, and it looks as if it's moving fast.  So I don't know how much longer I'll have Mr. Mellow around.  He's 13, and has been a REAL companion for me.  A real sweetheart, I'm going to miss him like crazy.  Right now I'm making him as comfortable as possible with antibiotics and Vet visits, but my Vet doesn't want me to hold out a lot of hope, despite all of the treatments.  Right now he's still active--at least as active as a male Maine Coon EVER is, LOL--but he's lost several pounds.  We'll have to see.  One thing my Vet said, is that he's seen this type of disease go into remission on some cats and they can live out a normal life span.  So, again, it's a waiting game--

Well, we've got another Delta Breeze today, so I think it's Butte time again.  I keep thinking about that cartoon in MR.  Now why didn't I think of a Flying Harness?Whistling [:-^]

Best to all, prayers for those in need.

Tom Big Smile [:D]
