Where am I?
Seems like there is an inordinate discussion of food on this thread until I remember I'm at a diner. But those pictures of delicious food make me hungry , darn it!
Mark
Afternoon, Diners - Flo, I think I'll have some of the BBQ pork if there's any left. That and (of course) a root beer float, and could you use that hard-frozen vanilla ice cream that's been in the back freezer this week, please?
Thanks! That might hold up for 30 seconds out in JP's sandbox area. Here's to you and the rest of your co-workers, JP. Bet you won't mind those snowy winters in New York after you get back, huh? Not to worry about your welcome back party, 'cause when you get back, we'll probably have several bands lined up to play.
Oh, MarkPierce - Flo can whip you up any of those delectables you see in the Diner that you want. Nice thing is, these don't put the weight on ya like the stuff on the other side of the 'puter does. But hey, we're a bunch of chowhounds around here, for that very reason...
Jeff, your power problems sure were puzzling. Hope they can get those transformers & substations fixed/replaced soon, so nothing else goes offline for your power.
Somewhat warm (cool by JP's standards) here today - mid-80's (F) at the moment, and 65 percent humidity. Good afternoon for inside stuff, or for those with basements, going to the train room...
Got talking last night with a woman I've gone out with at two or three separate times in the past, and it looks like she'll be back in town next weekend (from St. Louis). Last night we got talking about getting together for a movie or getting something to eat while she's in town. Strange thing is, we seem to (at varying times) to keep getting back in touch, but I've just not felt like there's much interest on her side (I do prefer that, if I'm going to continue to see a woman). So I'm trying to figure out why she seems to stay in touch, when the times we've gone out, there isn't any sign of a spark from her? No particular teasing or flirting or the usual signs. Almost like she has a SuperDuper Spark Arrestor built-in. Puzzling...
I think I'll grab a spot in the corner booth and start on my BBQ and my RBF. Then time to head back home and get some MRR'ing stuff done before suppertime. Prayers for continued healing for those Diners (and loved ones, furry or otherwise) in need of them.
Blessings and a good evening,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

Garry: It's been a long time since I've seen windows like that. The ones on my trailer are somewhat similar in shape like those.

Hey, check this out! I saw something today that I didn't think I'd see any more. I haven't seen this for MANY years (at least not around here).
I saw (and photographed for proof) working Semiphores on the CSX line just north of Paoli, Indiana! I haven't seen Semiphores in quite a long time outside of a museum. Check um out!

Good chance! I'm not sure. It's actually just north of the little burg of Orleans, which is just a little north of Paoli and south of Mitchel, Indiana. The line eventually runs down to the Ohio River in New Albany. It runs North to Bedford, Indiana, then turns west for a while before turrning north again to Terrre Haute.

yep, that's good ol' Monon through Orleans/Mitchell, and up to Bedford. Someone's keeping the history up at least.

These were interesting cars. They were experimental cars made in 1940 by Pacific Railroad Equipimnet Company. They were called pendulum cars becuase of a unique suspenion sytem. Only three were built.........one each for GN, ATSF,and CB&Q.
GN evenutally rebuilt its car into a conventional looking coach with rectangular windows, and it was pooled with other coaches on secondary, regional trains.
Santa Fe's car was painted in a two-tone gray scheme as were many of their smooth side cars. Santa Fe operated its car on its trains between Los Angeles and San Diego.
Burlington's car was painted aluminum color, and it was named Silver Pendulum. In many of its years it operated in a short train consisting of an aluminum colored gas electric car (doodlebug) and just the one coach. The train traveled between St Joseph, MO and Lincoln, NB via a secondary route.
Evening Gang: Well the pump has reached it's limit. I added another 50 ft of hose and it didn't have the poop to get the water the last 10 ft in to the pond. I'll reroute the hose to the top of the frack tank dam and then into the normal chanel of the runoff feed to the pond. I'll have to use some 2 inch pipe to make it but it will work I hope. The kids are due back from New Mexico in the early morning so I need to get showered and into bed in case they arrive noisy.

Good Morning from Tipton IN !

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good morning all,
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. West wind between 7 and 15 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. West wind around 11 mph.
Last night I loaded the mainline with the new hopper cars and my challenger and found the challenger is just spinning its wheels. Not enough traction! So now I need to clean the rubber tires today and clean some track. I finished one caboose with the LS&W logo and did a coal field weathering job on it (This will be the only real dirty caboose on my line). I also did a field day on the garage, cut down a dead apple tree in the back yard, and removed the old pavers from alongside the house.
JP, is the humidity still about 8% or have you hit the August 88% humidity? The hottest I suffered over there was 135F, but I was on the coast. I'm not sure how hot the sand storms were but they would cook your MRE if you had one in your pocket. I wish you a safe trip home.
I got "the" phone call Friday asking me to do 10 months in Kuwait again, I said no thanks, we shall see what happens this winter.
Flash, your dad remains in our thoughts and prayers.

Mornin' all!
Wish I was still asleep as this is one of my few mornings to seep in, but somehow I just can't sleep. Oh well, thats what naps are for, huh?
Prayers for those in need, which really, if we're honest, thats all of us, isn't it?
Morning all been a few days but I've been reading just not much to say. Not sure if I told you all of my little problem I had here but its all going to work out found out tuesday to get tags for truck I had to pay personal property tax tthey first quoted $370.00 and I said how much you have this truck valued at as the value on large trucks has drop big time because of the gas and she said $11,600 I said whoa the trade in value is only $4500 and she said go get kelly blue book value for private sale and if its less we'll ajust it well it came out at $7200 so I ended up paying $200.00 and to make things worst for friday I was shorted 16 hours of O.T. out of my pay check and figured out they also didn't give me holiday pay for the 4th the pay period before. So basicly they owe me 16 ot and 8 holiday or 32 hrs of pay add that to my normal 16-20 ot a pay period and its going to be one sweet payday coming up.
Flash good to hear your dad is improving.
hope all are doing well .
Jeff sounds like your keeping buey with the fires/alarms.
Have you ever concidered doing and side work of painting of cars/shells for others? You do some very nice work.

Good day all -
Thanks again for the well wishes. I'm sure we'll need them for the rest of our time here.
As for the heat and humidity - there is no humidity. It's a very dry heat here. Today, we had a nice dust storm for most of the day, which helped to keep the temps down.
Well gang, time for some ice cream for desert.
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
RT is that $200 every year for tags or just one time? Here I'm complaining about $45/year for truck tags.
I-5, yes it's rather long, and the Challenger just spins it's wheels, so I'm looking for new tires for it to help it out.
Evening, Janie - I'll have some vegetable stew, glass of milk, and an RBF for dessert, please. Thank you!
Heartland Division CB&Q:Hello everyone........Uh oh! ........Did you read jimCG's post carfully. He's bcome quite the casanova evidently.
Garry, I think you've been reading my dreams more than my real life experiences. The reality isn't nearly that exciting. But hey, a guy can dream... Looks like you're getting pretty fancy with those windows, though.
PC, that's pretty amazing about that semaphore signal - is that on a branch line, or what? Surely not on a mainline (even if they use radios nowadays for directions, or something else more modern).
Flash, I gather from your post that possibly somebody was racing in your neck o' the woods, huh? Your Dad is in our - and the rest of your family...
RT, sounds like the familiar 'feast or famine', between the property taxes and shorting you the OT and holiday pay. But should be nice when that updated paycheck shows its face!
Jeff, I think we only got up to 90 F or so this afternoon, with 60 percent RH. Heck, it's already cooled off to 88 F by almost 6 p.m. our time...
Lee, at 19 feet of hoppers, that is a load to haul - it's not too surprising that the Challenger's wheels were slipping a little. That's a heap of hoppers! I suspect on RT's truck (unless Missouri is a lot different), that if they're calling it 'property tax', that would be an annual (or if RT's lucky, only every two years) thing. If it were sales taxes, that'd be a one-time thing.
Oh, and Luke (NH I-5) - congrats on your 1000th!
I've been helping my (current) co-leader of the singles group in trying to get some older WordPerfect files off her older Mac (Performa 630CD, waayyy old!) and onto and converted for use on her iMac (the newer one that looks like ET's cousin - half-round base and a big flat screen on the end of a pivot arm; looks like an overgrown desk lamp). The older 'puter doesn't have any connectors like the iMac does (so no direct cable business), but it does have a 1.4 MB floppy drive, so I may be able to move the files on that to an external floppy drive hooked up to the iMac. Then the fun part - converting from the WPD format into something more usable on her system. She doesn't have Word (which might import them), but I may be able to do it via my laptop and Neo Office (an open source equivalent for Office). Reason she needs them converted is: 1) she wants to simplify to just one Mac and sell/donate the second, and 2) the files are various beginnings of one or more books that she wants to get back to finishing. (She worked for a bit as a newspaper reporter, I think).
Got to get this posted and head back home. I want to get something done on my layout stuff and quit just talking about it. (Sheesh!) Hmm, I could see about putting together some of my hoppers. But I'll need to do some painting, since most of 'em are undecorated kits. But then again, I don't have (or expect to get anytime soon) any Challenger, so my line will be much shorter.
Hope you all have a restful evening - and JP? - have a smooth as silk trip home (on the right plane)!
Blessings,

yeah. Yeah, I spose you could say that.
If they're the semaphores I think they are, then here's the caption from the Wikipedia page:
The Monon's original semaphore signals are still in operation between Salem and Mitchell, and also from Crawfordsville to near Lafayette. These are some of the last semaphore signals remaining in mainline operation in the United States.
if it works, don't bugger it up
More news on dad. He decided sometime today or late yesterday, he was gonna go walk around...
Did you know there's a group of bodybuilders specifically hired to haul patients back in bed? me neither. One thing's for sure, Dad's gonna need a lot of physical therapy before he can even stand up, let alone walk again. Fortunaelty, ghe missed everything ad the only damage was to the tubes. Don;t know much more than that. The nurses found him on the floor.

The tags are like $25.00 every year that is personal property tax they lay that on boats, trailers ( camping, cargo and boat trailers ) , autos ect . it goes by the value of the vehical so mine should go down every year as they say.
But on the other hanbd our sales tax is low here it was 9% in TN here it depends on what but its about 5% and none on food you buy to prepare items at the grovcery store.

Yeah, and how far are ya gonna have to widen the tracks for her? LOL. seriously, what's the story on her?
Fergie, Thanks. A 20 beer foul?!? That's a little steep.
Flash, if your dad is ready to walk around a little then that is a good sign.
RT, the sales tax up here depends on what county you live in. I'm in Cuyahoga (crooked river) County and the sales tax is at the State maximum (8.7% I think) so I dart over to Lake County (6%) to do all my shopping. Food stuff is tax free, but beer, pop, and everything you can't eat is taxable. If you order to-go from a restaurant it's not taxed, but if you eat in it's taxed.
Welcome back Georgea!
Time for bed,
