in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Flashwave, what a tough situation. So sorry for all involved.

I rolled out some more old nasty bales today and the wife re-seeded those areas. Now all we need is some more rain to come through. The seeding from a week or two ago is already coming up nicely.

The 13 guinea babies & 1 peachick are all thriving in their temporary tub in the workshop. Forgot to mention those hatching them out in our incubator last week. The other peachicks are all with their mothers. A few have been lost to predation. Wife let the turkey chicks out of the birdhouse and they are hanging out with their mom.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Have a good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Check out this derelict I found back in the trees on the edge of the Leesville yard. It's an old KCS Southern Belle baggage car from the streamline era. This baby has been sitting here a lot of years.

I've got a joke for you all I found online.

Two blonde girls are driving by a wheat field when they see another blond girl trying to row a boat through the field; so they stop and watch. Then one of the girls says "You know, its girls like her that give us a bad name."

"I know," said the other, "and if I knew how to swim, I'd go and drown her right now."

***Garry, basically we're waiting on a mortgage company to sign the check. Should know something within a week or so. If not, we'll start raising a ruckus.Mischief [:-,]

Well, have to get up at 8:00am to meet the shavings truck at the gate. Will be a busy day tomorrow. This torn up ankle continues to give me grief. Thank goodness for lots of ice packs. When everything is behind us (insurance/rebuild/etc), will look into having surgery.

Good morning.

It's 68 here and clear for the moment. It will become partly cloudy later as the temp climbs to a high in the mid 90's.

Yesterday I came upon an old baggage car that used to just sit on on an abandoned spur on the edge of the KCS yard. It was in the all white KCS paint scheme then, a survivor in the MoW fleet. Now it's surrounded by trees, the old spur is long gone and the car is sitting on the only bits of rail that were left. Over the years the white paint has peeled off exposing what's left of the old KCS Southern Belle paint scheme and some remnants of a paint scheme from the road that had the car before KCS acquired it. I may attempt making a model of it someday. I would have loved to get some better shots of it but my physical problems don't allow me the mobility of moving through ditches or soft ground.

I'll try some silver dollar size pancakes

I have to force myself to eat to keep from losing so much weight

Meantime I'm making some progress on Art's Engine House

It's a good distraction to the pain

Good Morning!

How about some Orange & Pecan Rolls with Orange Whipped Cream and Pineapples and Mandarin Oranges on top!  Thanks Chloe!

Hope things improve for those in need! Thoughts and prayers always!

Monique and I went on our evening walk again last night and saw more rabbits than usual jumping and scurrying around, they really come out around sunrise, but sunset time is really spectacular. And then on the last loop of the walk around we saw a turtle crossing the road, first time seeing one in the street. Just about the same time we approached the 5 pound tortoise the neighbors kid was looking at it, we gave him instructions for how to pick him up and then placed him out of harms way. That reminded me of the ole Tortoise and Hare story, seems true still today. But, then again, don't be surprised if you hear me telling stories about Turtle Soup and Rabbit Au Poivre...in the corner booth.....

Well...you all have a good one!

Morning, Zoe - glass of the OJ and a cup of coffee, please. Thanks!

Jeff, I figured you'd be looking for a baggage car in his LHS' bargain bin, and painting it to match that derelict...Wink [;)] With your painting skills and your resourcefulness, you'll do a fine job of matching that baggage car, even from that one pic you got. Yeah!! [yeah]

Paul, besides that twine being a bargain, your cats will love ya for it. Evil [}:)]Laugh [(-D] Keep taking care of those eyes, okay?

RRNut, that's a good one! Smile [:)]

Rob, don't push yourself too much with the bum ankle, so you at least get to be able to put off having the surgery, and not end up having to do it sooner (rather than later). Hope you hear from the mortgage company soon!

Terry, that enginehouse for your friend Art is looking good - and Art's no slouch on making those windows, either! Thumbs Up [tup] What are you using for cutting your window and door openings? (I might ask you for some tips later...)

Careful, Ryan, or you'll have the ASPCA on our case again. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] (Turtle soup is good, though...) Whistling [:-^] That chicken yesterday looked good - sorry I missed it. Are your local rabbits having a family get-together since it's summer, maybe? Wink [;)]

Trying to figure how to cover everything for the next week to payday. May need to do some fancy shuffling of the few dollars here and there. Gas in the car is low, so hoping for no long trips out of town. But need to sit down and figure what bills need paying out of the next paycheck, so it'll stretch further. One good thing is, I found out I'm actually (YAY!!!) going to get a 2 percent raise (which will kick in on this next paycheck). That will help some.

We're supposed to be back up into the low 90's again today (typical summer weather here). Good day to stay indoors and under the fan or A/C.

Well, Zoe, I'll have a refill in a go cup on my coffee, please. Thank you, ma'am.

Blessings and some cool shade today,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Duke is probably on the road somewhere.  He may have already left on his motorcyle trip for vacation.  I'm meeting him at Steamtown this Sunday morning and it's a long ride from Michigan.

Just thought I would stop in for a Mt. Dew during break here at w**k.  How about putting that in a...uh...er, okay a Mt Dew can will have to do.  The drawback of not drinking brewed beverages. Sigh [sigh]

Hello Jeff....

That baggage car is a mess. The KCS could have made some money while scrap steel prices were up. It would be a good project for a layout scene.

Whistling [:-^]

Good Afternoon All,

My back was really bothering me last evening, nothing too serious, just a pulled muscle from doing some handyman stuff around my Son's house here in Spokane.  So I sat around and watched "Silver Streak" with Gene Wilder and Richard Prior. And did I mention Jill Clayburgh Wow!! [wow]Tongue [:P]

It is amazing how they dolled up an old CP F7 set, took most of the outside filming in Canada and tryed to make you believe that the train was enroute from LA to Chicago.  But non the less it is a good watch for those of us who are train buffs.  Lots of laughs, good train shots night and day, and a great ending with it being a runaway and crashing into Chicago Union Terminal or I should say through it.....................

It doesn't seem that long ago that CN Charlie and I were complaining about the cold and now pretty well all of us are in the oven.   Well here is something to give you some cool thoughts as long as you stay out of the exhaust flow.
Winter arsenal
Winter Arsenal

Among the heavy weapons in the CPR winter arsenal is this giant nozzle attached to a converted airliner engine, used to produce a jet blast of warming air to stubbornly frozen track and switch components.

There is a kitbash project,  What do you think????

Well my wife is ready for an outing around town, so must go and earn some brownie points, helps when it comes to MMR purchases.  No, she never really bugs me about that, I'm pretty lucky there.

Prayers and blessings to all in need.   Flash, you and your family are especially in our thoughts.

By the way, my new airbrush arrived yesterday,  a Passche, model H. I can hardly wait to get home and start practising with it.  I'm sure it will take lots of practise before I want to do something for keeps.  I have several old cars that I don't run that I will practise on then I have six gondolas, a couple of hoppers and a couple of cattle cars that are undecorated and I plan on doing them up in a Last Mountain & Eastern scheme (which hasn't been finalized.)  Spray Can Remembrandt Jeff, I'm coming after you...............

Also I am most impressed with the detailed history on the Chapel Cars in the book that I received two days ago.  "This Train Is Bound For Glory".  It is a large hard copy edition and with shipping I only paid $8.50 for it.  That my friends is a steal..............Those of you that have some interest in these cars and that part of railroad history, you must get it, you will not be sorry, it will take a long time to read it but from what I have read it is going to be a very interesting read.

Johnboy out for now......................

The "Wobbly" is still parked.

Jeff...That baggage Car is a find..We can only wonder about what it looked like back in the day..It would make a neet modeling project the way it sets on a abandoned siding in yards somewhere..

I enlisted some help and got more shots of the old baggage car, after getting permission from KCS of course. You can see all the photos here: KCS Baggage Car

Couldn't find a photo of a KCS baggage car, but here's one of a KCS RPO.

Afternoon, Zoe, time for my usual RBF, please 'n' thankyou, ma'am!

Johnboy, I'd guess they could clear the ice off a windshield of an F-7 with that thing, too! Wow!! [wow] That is something different, for sure. Good luck with the CFO's errands - do you get to swing by the LHS on this run? Wink [;)] Hey, isn't that Paasche a fancy double-action airbrush? Should make for some good painting sessions.

Jerry, on those window blocks, did you mean the ones that come with that kit, or did you find someone who makes a model version of those glass blocks that were used on some Art Deco buildings? Like these:

http://www.all-westglass.com/images/92.jpg

I wouldn't mind finding someone who made some HO scale ones like that. On your interiors, are you gluing those behind the glass, or lining the walls with them?

Jeff, that RPO looks sharp in that color scheme. Thumbs Up [tup] So will you be modeling the 'before', or the 'after' version on the baggage car?

I'll be in the window booth for now. Maybe Ed or John will drop by.

Blessings and prayers,

Afternoon Gang:

Flash I'm really sorry to hear about your new problems. I hope that your dad gets better soon and can help get things straightened out.

Jeff I kind of figured that you would be looking for a smooth side to use for that model. I can't wait to see what you come up with but I guess I'll have to.

Rob take care of that ankle. Don't over do it and make it worse.

The eye is getting better slowly. Tomorrow I go in to the doctor and see what he thinks.

Terry feed yourself. Try a little many times durning the day that may be easer.

Well I'm going to head out.

Jim I glued them behind the windows..The Merchant row building looked pretty empty...I googled store interiors printed them glued them to a plastic sheet then glued behind the window..Gotta remember I am working in N scale but if I was doing it in HO I think I would try to do a little detailing maybe some counters then glue the cut out behind that..I don't know of any of the glass block like you are talking about being made Maybe you could scribe the blocks on clear stock sand the back lightly?...Jerry

in a SOUTHERN PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.

***Jeff, now that I see the close-ups of that baggage car, man is it in bad shape. If I won a huge  Lottery, I would love to fine an old caboose (or that RPO car would do nicely) and have it incorporated as part of my studio, just for building a train layout in. Better yet, the car could be situated in the middle of a giant metal barn, from which one could run trains of a mega-layout surrounding it.Whistling [:-^]

***Johnboy, that would sure make one unique kitbash project. Might be a real hit at train shows or for a mag. article.

Very long day running errands with the wife. Got Tinytoon's shoe back on this evening. Need to get the farrier out soon though. Busy day tomorrow. Take care, all.

Good evening, hot day today, and I slept late....I watched the Allstar game until the end, and then I couldn't get to sleep until 4am. But so what, when retired, it doesn't matter at all does it guys!!

My wife surprised me today with two box cars, Conway Scenic Railroad 40 foot superior door, Athearn. One came in a standard RTR Athearn Blue and Yellow box, the other came in a gray and Black box that said " Athearn Collectibles". I have never seen this type of box from Athearn. Have you guys seen this at all?Question [?] I suspect it is a special run for Groups and Corporations.

CAPE JIM: I have some info for you. Guess where the fuel pump is located in all cars now? Yup, the fuel tank!!  And, guess what it needed to cool the fuel pump? Yup, right again, gasoline....IN THE TANK. My son found out the hard and costly way by running his tank once too mnay times on low fuel waiting for the warning light and buzzer to sound. It cost big bucks to replace because they needed to drop the fuel tank.  Not a good idea to run on low fuel too often unless money is no object. I don't want to see you waste good MRR $$ on fuel pumps.

FERGIE: Wherefor art thou???

ED: Have you recouped yet from last night?????

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Howdy ....

I received an email from Duke..... He can't get in to the forum due to maintenance he says....... I thought people would be blocked from logging in for just the weekend. That might explain some of the absent diners.

Duke expressed deep concern about Flashwave and his Dad.

Duke also mentioned he is looking forward to his trip and seeing Attaboy.

I looked at the baggage car pictures Jeff referenced. It's a great idea for a scenic prop. An old, beat up Rivarossi baggae car might be a good starting point.

Johnboy has a neat kitbashing idea for a CN snow blower car. Modelers of the Florida East Coast need not try one. Also, it's good to hear he likes the Chapel Car Book. I decided to get the book also thanks to the information from Johnboy about it.

Dick .......congrats on the new boxcars....... Now you can drop hints for a new brass loco like Fergie's.

Rob ... a caboose on your property would be a nice idea. ..... I think I heard they are reasonably priced. However, transportaion costs are high. Also, you would have to have a suitable location. A short piece of real track is more expensive than what we have on our layouts.

Got a little hotter out here in SunnyCal than I thought it was going to, today.  96 when they were predicting 89.  And at my age, those little bitty temperature changes can sure affect the way you want to move around in the garage, LOL!  Built the mine-trestle--and no, it's not scratch, I adapted an N-scale trestle kit.  Well, actually, it IS kind of 'scratch' because I had to do a lot of re-vamping on it--, got it installed, now I have to 'scenic' it with some Sculptamold and aggregate to make it look like a 'dumping site' and also put in a retaining wall so it doesn't slump over onto a curve on the mainline.  'Tis fun.   Got the lookout tower installed--pictures this weekend on WPF, and darned if I can't find the 'flagpole' in my parts box (and I KNOW it's there, 48 proper period stars and all).  Also have to scratch together a 'weather box' for it.  Then build the trail DOWN the Buttes to Bassett's station.

Hey, keeps me off of the streets, LOL!Blush [:I]

Jeff:  I love those classic KCS colors--are they planning on reviving them?  Boy, they OUGHT to!  Very distinctive.  Is that RPO your next project?  It would look very cool, I think.

Flash:  I am SO sorry to hear of your current situation--my prayers that things will eventually work out for you.  Would consulting Legal Aid in your area help?  Sometimes they can really work for you.  Prayers for you, buddy.

Johnboy:  Been years since I've seen SILVER STREAK, but I remember having a lot of fun with that movie.  Especially watching that F plow thorugh the gift shop at the end.  Doesn't someone look at the loco and say "Swear to God, it's smiling" at the end?  I seem to remember that gash across the nose of the diesel.  Have to watch it again.

The Prez and the Guv are supposed to tour the fire areas by helicopter in the next few days.  Imagine, the Prez out here in California.  By HELICOPTER!!  Whazzamatta, doesn't he want to get his cowboy boots all full of ash?  Can't wait to hear his speech, I wonder if it's going to be the same one he gave after New Orleans:  "BUH-DUH, BUH-DUH, BUH-DUH--"

Sorry about that. Blush [:I]

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom Big Smile [:D]
