Removing Factory Lettering?
Posted by tomnoy3 on Thursday, March 20, 2008 12:02 AM

I am planning on renumbering (non patch) an Athearn Genesis car.  Whats the best way to remove the lettering that I dont want, while leaving the base paint and lettering I do want?  Thank you

Tom

I can't say what to use but I can say what not to use, having tried it:  Isopropil Alcohol.

It took out the lettering  but also took  the flat finish off.  Lucky it was just a flat  finish over black  plastic.  I just put my new herald and sprayed the sides flat again.

Pencil eraser.  Works every time for me.  Break off the end, about 3 inches long, chuck it into my drill and off I go.  I use my wifes, please don't tell her, Press and Seal to "mask" off the areas that I don't want the eraser pieces to get into.

Be sure to have several erasers.  But that all depends on how much, or how little you are removing.
