Is there a problem??
Posted by New Haven I-5 on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 5:41 PM

I have been taking notice that some forums members have been "picking" on some members. No, I'am not starting a riot or anything like that. I just want to know why this is happening! Are you bored? Are you angry?

The secret to success on any internet forum is to develop a thick skin.  It's easy to misinterpret comments that aren't accompanied by a gesture or a facial expression.  Another secret is to ignore posts that you find offensive or off-putting.  Typically the person who posts that sort of thing is fishing for a reaction.  If you don't give him one, he'll pretty much go away.

Finally, always make sure you think about what YOU post in terms of how others might interpret it.  Read over your post carefully before you pull the trigger.  A lot of times these flame wars start over something that was never meant to be said.

Another couple things.  Sometimes some members need to be picked on, or they just keep getting more and more whatever it is they are doing.   I've even picked on the moderators from time to time.  Another thing to do is to always look in the mirror and instead of saying "you", say "I".    Was I angry when I posted that. Was I bored so I posted that stupid message.  Was I doing something to **** people off. etc.

Then there is just that sometimes people will let things roll off their back so to speak but another much lesser thing will set them off.  Then other times people will take stuff only so long before they get tired of nonsense.

One thing that really sets people off is starting thread after thread after thread on the same topic, or thread after thread after thread with nonsensical or trivial questions.   It took us a long time to get rid of the "poles" that the forum used to have and just annoyed most people.

Please don't ask stupid questions and at least type correctly for those who post run on sentences.

I think you should abide by your tagline.

I feel the question has been aptly answered, and there is nothing further to be gained by continuing with the topic.
