The wording is such that he appears to be talking about the 1:1 challengers, and not his personal models.

So, if you're around OJLAR -- which were you talking about?

gonna nitpick on this one -- The *first* biggest and baddest steam locomotive built was done be one Richard Trevthick in 1802 (though this was more experimental than anything).  Followed in 1829 by Stephenson's rocket (which started the practical use of steam power).

As for my favorite steamer (that I own) my Bowser NYC K-11 Pacific.

My favorite steamer of all time is the PRR K-4

I just finished my new favorite today. I have been researching it and working on it for several months now. It is an SP TW-2 class twelve wheel Mastodon No. 2947. This loco was built by Schenectady in 1892 and retired in January of 1950! These SP TW Class locos were some of the longest lasting steam locos in North America. My model is dated 1909 and will be used to pull the "Weed Logger" from Klamath Falls Or to the Weed Lumber Company mill pond at Weed California on my Klamath Falls branch of the California Northeastern ( An SP subsidiary at the time). I modeled this loco from a picture I obtained from Jack Bowden which can be seen on page 22 of his book "Railroad Logging in the Klamath County" I kit bashed it from a Tyco 4-8-0 that I purchased on ebay for $24. I scratched built the Whale Back tender from Styrene. ( I individually hand embossed the rivets) I remotored the loco with a D8120 Yardbird remotor kit from Yardbird Classic Trains. I am sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I took them fast and so I could return the my yard work which needs attention.

Mine is My Great Western Rwy #90, a 2-10-0 Decapod. Its an exact brass replica imported by Empire Midland of Korea.I painted and lettered it because I didn't like the brass color. The prototype is now owned by the Strasburg rr in Pennsylvania and is used for steam excursions.

May we respectfully suggest that you rectify the sitcheeashun forthwith?  There's nothing quite so pathetic as a needy model railroader, you know?  We have an image to maintain here.

Deutsche Reichsbahn (DDR) BR 01.5

German description at http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DR_Baureihe_01.5

These were 1960s rebuilds of prewar express engines. Early "prototypes" also used American style boxpox wheels. Really kicked b**t, and had great lines too.

My favorite right now is the IHC 2-6-0.  Of course it's also my only.  Still, for the price, that is one nice running loco.

Now, if you check back late next week, I may say it's the Bachmann 2-8-0 I just picked up.  We'll see when it comes in!

My favorite steam locos are my two HOn3 Blackstone K-27s. Great  runners and great sound, even on DC. Hard to beat the value and quality of these in any scale.

Hmmm...that would be my Bachmann Spectrum 4-4-0. This is a sweet-running locomotive that evokes a slower and simpler time. If that wasn't good enough, I am waiting for delivery of the same engine that is DCC and sound. Now I am patiently waiting for Bachmann to produce a Mogul with DCC and sound.

Well I've only got two, a Spectrum USRA Heavy Mountain and a Trix/Marklin USRA Light Mikado.  They're the heritage power, so they don't get run too much but I'm going to have to go with the Trix/Marklin as my favourite, that all metal body and tender, as well as being my only engine with sound.

Cheers!

I was at first tempted to write "my BLI heavy mikes."  They look great, run great and sound great and I still get that big ear to ear grin when I run them.  However, upon looking at my stuff there is one steam locomotive that is defeinately my "favorite."  It's a little Aurora Postage Stamp N-scale (well, made to run on a nine mm gauge track) 0-6-0 tank engine.  It won all my engine races (put one engine on one side of the loop and another on the other side and crank the MRC Trottlepack all the way and see who catches up to who) waaaaaaaay back when.  What fun!! Yeah - that little guy is my favorite and there is no way I'm gonna ever get rid of it.

If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

When I get it back from PCM (sound stopped working) my PCM Y6-b. Draged 85 cars up a 1.5% grade like there was nothing hooked to it at K-10's Model Trains at the Christmas party.

For now my BLI Hudson, pulls well and sound great, BLI M1-a and Class J. Class J is the second best puller after the Y6-b.

My beautiful Bachmann HO Shay.  Even had an opportunity to ride in the cab of a 1:1 scale Shay in Cass, WV not too long ago.  Let me tell ya, it's almost as if those things are alive.
