Gravel loading kit...
Posted by Favrefan04 on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 1:29 AM
My friend and I were talking the other day, and he said that when he was younger, he had an HO train set. He had a gravel auger loading and unloading kit on is layout. From what he said it was quite functional. It had a two switch control for it. One would operate the auger which would load gravel from the hopper up the shoot, and into a coal or gravel car. The second switch was used to open the bottom of the car to dump the gravel into the hopper, where you cold repeat the whole process again.

My question is, does anybody know anywhere I might be able to find something like that. He doesn't have it anymore, and that was 15 years ago. I have tried to find one at several different sites, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything that I can be sure that would work in that same way.

I will keep looking though.

There was an article in MR a couple of years ago on making an operating coal tipple, which used an auger drill bit, use the "Index of Magazines" link above to search for it.
