39, but I'm looking good without much hair! [:D]

Aggro, I had you figured for an old codger cause your work looks like you've got years of experience!

Nice to see many younger guys here. Must be the computer thing, my experience is locally most MRers are older.

I got the exact opposite problem. I'm 58 and have great distance vision, but need some pretty powerful glasses to read. OTOH, the lenses in both eyes are artificial since I had cataract surgery 4 years ago.

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

Since many of us are new to the forum, I thought it would be interesting and fun to kick Aggro's topic back into gear. Also in your post, lets add: How long have you been an active MR? How old is your layout?

I will be 59 in 8 days. That's the norm. But, at age 50 everyone has a choice to continue counting in the forward direction or in the reverse.

I'm 41. [:D][:D]

I have been in MR 1 year and my layout construction began 10 months ago.

58, and have been a model railroader since my Dad, also a model railroader, got me a Marx O27 set when I was four or five. We lived in a NYC apartment when I was a kid and by the time I was eight years old (if I remember correctly) I 'graduated' to American Flyer, had a folding 4x8 foot layout, and took the trucks off the Marx stuff and put American Flyer S scale trucks and couplers on them. Two years later I got an HO Mantua switcher and a few cars ; the die was cast . Ever since then I've been kitbashing something in HO or (1/24) G scale.

Those early days in NYC were so special , for my Dad and I used to ride the subways all over Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and even ventured into Jersey on the Hudson 'Tubes' (PATH trains). We also roamed around the train ferries (those are not silly little men wearing tight pants and engineer hats), and frequented all the neat hobby shops around NYC - A C Gilbert's (American Flyer), Lionel, Polk's, Madison Hardware, and other shops crammed to the walls and up to the ceilings with those alluting boxes full of trains. There was even a train store in one of the subway stations!

Those days were so influential on this once upon little kid, that I 'd never trade those wonderful memories spent with my Dad-a very special Father and the guy who hooked me on this great hobby.

I am 61.

Too old for many things....Luckily, most of them I don't remember...

Stll too young for the seniors' discount at the drugstore.

Major problem: I have apparently become allergic to beer. I used to have no problem with it, but now, after 17-18 beers, I usually throw up ! [xx(]

Never get old ! [:(]

Today is our equivalent of a veterans day. There have been too many wars that I can remember, although not being involved directly right up to now.

I'll get over it!

Looks like the younger generation is the majority,

From 4 to 65 with 15 teens plus a few that would still like to be a teen.

Almost 15.

When you are a young kid someone asks you how old you are and you say
"4 and a half!"

Then you mature and its just "almost fifteen".

You mature further and its "I'm in my forties"

Then when you get to be 100 its like bein a kid..."I'm 100 and a half!"

51. I still have my original Lionel steam locomotive from my 5th Christmas.

Roger, I don't get up on HF much these days, mainly because my antennas are still with my ex-wife. At the present, I have only my mobile HF Outbacker. I rent, so can't run any dipoles or end-fed wires in the attic or around the eaves of the house. Maybe I'll catch you on HF sometime. When I roam the bands, I'm usually on 17 meters, but occasionally go up to 15 or down to 20.

I will be 47 on April 2. I am single. If there's any women out there who like trains and a guy who likes kayaking and beagles, please contact me ASAP!

I'm 33 and one of the youngest modelers I know in my area. My N trak club (I'm HO at home) currently has six members, and we're locally known as the "punk kids". We're 33, 32, 26, 25, 13 and 12.

I am 35 years old.

This weekend I had a meeting with a couple of modelers I had never met before to start a traction module club. I was the youngest person there, the other fellows were around 45, 55 and 65. Two others who couldn't make it but wanted to were 25. I'm sure that if we stay around we'll get at least one 15 year old and probably a 75 year old or two.

It's fairly neat how this hobby allows people born in different halves of the last century to hang out and have a good time together...how many other pastimes can say that?

I have that to look forward to in about 2 years. hopefully i can get a single room or an apartment and build something. otherwise i'll just come home on weekends and run them. and i can always read books and magazines and go to the hobby store. stuff like that. put together a ton of kits hopefully.

Hate to break it to you son, BUT!!!!

If your in college and your doing it right there will be little time for fun and games. Believe me leave the fun stuff at home, Dig in and work hard! It's for three to four years, but it will determine what you will be doing for the rest of your life. Yes leave some time for fun and frolick but don't get off track and distracted. When I did the college thing we started with 135 and the first night they sat us down and said " See the guy next to you and the other guy on the other side? They won't be there in three years time. They were right, only 53 of us graduated.

What about HO stuff?

haha. i plan on working a lot this summer to save up. i don't know how much i'll be able to spend on train stuff as i plan on selling my car i bought this past october and get a truck, that is if my parents will let and if i can find a construction job to work during the days.

gambling won't be a daily or weekly thing. probably once a month if that even. i don't want to spend all my money and i know i need more stuff for trains.
