Westbound Train 33, the St Louisan, passes an eastbound symbol freight at M Interlocking in East Mifflin, PA, in August 1956. Most of the Pennsy's Blue Ribbon Fleet pass through East Mifflin in darkness, so Train 33, departing Harrisburg at 3:36 PM, is a favorite for photographers. Passenger trains rarly stop here at East Mifflin anymore; the PRR Class B passenger waiting shelter, though well-maintained, lies unused most days.
Meanwhile, at Lewisport, PA, local M9 (operated today by H10sb Class 2-8-0 #8756) spots a PRR X29 Merchandise Service boxcar at the freight station platform. A PRR delivery truck waits for the crossing to clear.

Just trying out a new technique.
Dave, your work is great as always. Your Inspirational in many ways. One of the true artist of the hobby.
SOU Fan, I think your new technique is working how are you doing that? I'm finally getting the Ok All my cars and locomotives look too new It needs some weathering.
I'm gonna post my pics soon.
Ok here we go this is what I have been working on. Nothing on the layout but some Engines
SDL39 Yup I'm still working on it. I finally got my detail parts yesterday from Walthers so I got to work on it. Of course I still need another set of Mu hoses and add some more details parts but she is coming along. Infact I have to rip the jack padsoff cause I figured how they are suppose to go on.
And Now my GP30 MILW RD Project. This was originally an undecorated shell they set me. I had Metal grab irons laying around. Traded a decoder for another P2K GP30. Stripped the Walkways. Added a plow, Firecracker antenna, All weather window from a P2K SW9, added a horn which I saw in one GP30 phot. Added Lift Rings. I still have to get a rear weed cutter, and MU Hoses.I already Installed a Digitrax decoder in it.
Cool weatheing effect!
Dave: Cool pix as always!
Nothing from me right now, but I should have another railfanning video on my layout up tonight.
Heres a few of my cars I have weathered. I normally work on them all week. I have honestly been doing more weathering than my layout. I don't know if thats good or bad.

I really like this picture. Terrific context...and believeable. Siskel and Ebert award for that one, buddy.

Thanks, guys!
When I "compose" a photo (if you can call it that), I like to think about what story it tells. After all, my layout represents a working transportation system. So, if you were to visit this working system one day, what would you see happening? It was never hard in the 50s to catch a meet on the real PRR... But I do give a little thought, based on real train sequences and numbers, as to what in particular you'd see. Each train movement has a purpose, so I hope my photos reflect that sense of purpose.
Thanks again for the kind words!!!
Two from me for this week..
A GP-9 on the turntable
and an 0-8-0 switcher heading home.

I've finished the rooftops on my warehouse. I painted the roof with black paint, then sprinkled on some fine grey ballast while it was still wet. I think it turned out ok, there are some spots that need to be touched up tho.
I also made my custom window sills. They are just tacked together so I can pull them off and paint them an aluminum color (same as the rooftop vents).

Sou Fan, you need to enroll me in your freight car weathering boot camp.
Bravo!

Hopefully it stays on better than mine when I put it on my Als victory station a couple of yrs back. Then again I think moving the station around caused it to loosen up. But very nice.
Gads..havent been on here in quite a while. Starting to scrach build a locomotive shop and just started making a tread lathe. granted there are a lot of part's to fabricate yet as it is far from done.
Have to build the lathe first as the shop will be a lift out and I have to figure out where to cut the floor under the lathe for the chip pan and recessed walkway behind it. Have about ten hours in this shop as it is a lift out so that I can take it to the bench. Will have a drop pit and elevator.... and if it wasnt for my coffee breaks I could be done with it.LOL John
I recently scanned a bunch of my old black and white photos for use on another forum, might as well share one of them here:

This is my HO scale model of a VIA Rail F40PH-2, posed in front of the real VIA station we used to have in our city. All gone now. Taken with a pinhole equipped 28mm wide angle lens.

There is some great stuff posted here guys. I finally have something to contribute to WPP that I hope compares in quality.
BTW ignore the chicken in the back ground, it's my sons and I forgot to move it before I started taking pictures LOL. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
This is DPM's Shultz's Garage kit. The roof is from Evergeen. It comes as a sheet of styrene with lines scribed in it and stips that you glue in to make the ribs. The rust is real rust I sanded off the top of a garbage can lid...what looks like rust more than real rust right ?

Don't know if this will be a help, I scratched a wheel lathe many years ago in HO scale for my machine shop. It is an older belt-driven type. I used photos and diagrams in an older issue of Trains magazine, in their article on the East Broad Top shops:
It was made from styrene strips, sheet styrene, various shapes and parts from my scrapbox and some gears from an old clock.
Good luck!
Good stuff so far. Here's what I've been working on.
This old Bachmann GP40 has a severe pickup problem in the front truck, in that it won't pick up power at all. Picks up from the rear truck just fine. For now I have the loco physically MU'd to the Bachmann Conrail loco behind it, kind of like a slug setup. It'll do until I can find another truck to fit the chassis, which BTW is thirty years old. That's gonna be a job to dig one up. The loco's powered by a Power Points West can motor. The old shell was so trashed that I tossed it out and fitted one of the newer Bachmann GP40 shells onto it. I'm going to have to get some paint for the handrails that can flex a bit.

Once again Bob your detail and the realism that you achieve is an inspiration.
Fantastic photography as always.

Modeling the Southern Pacific in the 1960's-1980's
Hello everyone ....... I see some great photos already.
Here's a picture of a section of the layout. I have been working on the scenery here in recent weeks.
GARRY
HEARTLAND DIVISION, CB&Q RR
EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Thanks, NH I-5. The 0-6-0 is a Proto Heritage. The 4-8-2 is by bachmann that I lettered for CB&Q. I normally operate diesels, but I have several steam locos to operate. It is essentially changing the layout date by simply changing the equipment.
I have photos I took of the process of making rock strata and i am thinking of posting them in a thread to explain making rock strata.
New Haven,
My H10sb kitbash is explained in an article I wrote for the NTrak Steam Information Book 2007 addendum.
It's a Bachmann Spectrum N scale 2-8-0 plus a cut-down Minitrix K4 boiler, smokebox, and firebox. Then I added a Minitrix B6sb cab. I modified the tender and added a bunch of details.
It was a fun project!
