Not if you use a piece of flexible steel hose on the inside. I have some that's 3 inches in Diameter, so it's perfect for HO scale.

The vermin might not like the metal, so that kind of helps too.

Try poison/traps. Or try the fun approach. Take an Airsoft gun and shoot the heck out of each tunnel. Oorah. Yes, I know it might destroy the scenery.Evil [}:)]

I recommend (as a pediatrician as well) the following:

Works great on mice, rats, all rodents... if you (or a lil' one) trigger it, your arm will basically clench.  On the other hand, it fibrillates (and kills) the rodents.... nice and safe.  I have used it to kill a rat that decided to attack my grill (and poo all over it!)

5 pack of razor blades....$1

6" of rosin core solder.....  $.25

45 minutes to attach the razor blades to the rotary plow.... acceptable

having a rodent free layout WITH the tool to keep as such....PRICELESS!!!

Hi Tom

She's called Pushkin (should have been Pushkina as she's a female)

We're not entirely sure what she is, my guess is possibly a Maine Coon. I read somewhere the Norwegians shed their long coats for part of the year. Pushy's coat just gets all matted and knotty, no matter how much we try to comb her.

Hell I will loan you my parents two they eat Squirrels and rats for fun.  They are brothers combined that weigh 35 lbs and last summer while I was at my parents house walking my dog.  Those 2 chased and TREED a freaking Racoon and then proceeded to kill it working together.  The best thing is they are gentle with kids knick knacks and trains as I have a N scale layout there and they do not mess with it when I do run it.  However rodents last 30 seconds or less.

Did the cat eat the lineman that was working on that pole?

My cat is always up on my table , so i dont have this issue

Steps

1) take a deep breathe

2) Remove ALL  locomotives, rolling stock, and buildings.

3) Cats always help, but if not, Do not use poision, glue traps help but get em out quick when they die

4) clean up the mess

VICTORY!

Is that an HO cat or an O?

Could I get one at the LHS? How long does it take to weather the thing

I've tried Cats and they made a worse mess then the rodents. I use the snap traps, sticky traps, and a live trap. Of course I first tried to find all the places that they were getting in. Steel wool or mortor mix work best. Don't bother with foam insulation or fiberglass insulation. I still get one every now and then so repeat traps as needed. The cats left fur all over the place and I was cleaning it up for a year. When I test ran my new 2-10-2 I had to stop it and pick the fur out of the valve gear with a tweezers.

railroadnut

i use a 22 cal pistol with #12 dust bird SHOT(not # 9 SHOT )  it works wonders,my layout is in a shed by itself, also it`s a lot of fun and you will be doing a public service by getting rid of the dirty rodents.i created a couple of instantly dilapidated cars one time when i got carried away while  there was more than one running around.i`ve been down to zero population for now what a bummer'           dutchman

Do slim Jims really work

As many times as I've used mine to free up a jammed lock on one of the back doors of my car, I'd have to say yes. As far as using one to push traps around, I don't know. On the other hand, another type slim jim makes a good snack.

What's your point?  Your post says nothing.  Saying "half of the people in the world have higher than average intelligence" would have been more informative.

Mark

But it wouldn't have been accurate. There are more people with lower-than-average intelligence than there are with higher-than-average intelligence (and the lowest part of that curve is farther away from the average than the highest part of that curve is, with only very rare exception) , so more than half the people in the world have higher-than-average intelligence. It WOULD have been accurate if the statement was "half of the people in the world have higher than median intelligence."

I too had a similar problem with a garage layout...a bird. Started noticing this bird flying in and out of the garage and found the N scale tunnel packed with pine needles and stuff. I just left it alone for a while and tried not to disturb her. The bird was not shy about being in the garage with me. The tunnel did eventually get cleaned out.
