Sunday Show-off Feb 3

Here's a N-scale Coal Mine I've been working on for a diaorama. The first picture is how it looked after I dug it out of the plaster. Still needs some work but I can make adjustments on the diorama.

Frank,

Big improvement on those stains.

Catt,

It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. And either way, you're way ahead of me.

I thought you may be interested in my HO version of the coal mine.

On my layout, it is a loading facility from a gravel pit located 'behind the backdrop' that is served by the conveyor. I assume that the branch line that served the gravel pit was closed due to other companies closing or shipping by trucks. Gravel still needed rail shipments, so the loader and conveyor were built at the end of the branch line that is now a siding.

I still need to add the backdrop in this area so the background is Photoshopped.

I've got a copy of that one, too, Chip.  Very versatile structure, but best if kitbashed a bit due to its commonality...

Here's a few shots from one of my favorite spots for railfanning on my layout.

Reading power brings a west bound Alpha Jet into Hagerstown, just clearing NC tower and the diamonds at the Penn Central Cumberland Valley line...

Looking east across the diamonds.

The Penn Central Turn holds for a west bound cut of empty grain hoppers.

Once clear, the GP shoves a cut of cars into the interchange track.

Sooner or later I'll finish up that scenery.

Hi Chip--

Your n-scale talents are showing!  That mine transformation is well done. While I was building my own coal mine I ran across a website with prototype photos and some show structures in the Appalachian region very similar to yours:

Thought you might find it useful.
