What prototype years? N freight scale cars
Posted by Rob on Thursday, January 24, 2008 10:06 AM

Hey all,

Found these in my old cars box and am thinking of updating the trucks/couplers and detailing them. I am "casually" modeling a fictional PRR branchline in the 1950s.

Just wondering about when these would have been on the rails and if the would fit into my layout...the dates are very difficult to read.

You may recognize these oldies if you were in n scale way back when-

Covered hopper, grey  "Koppers Plastics" logo  (Buid date says 1937...but the script and colors look very modern.

Older style 3 (cap?) tank car, orange/black "Hooker Chemicals"  Looked this one up...Hooker has an interesting past with the EPA! no on-line info on the car though.

Box car mech. reefer, Yellow Union Pacific  "We can handle it"  There is a 1955 date on the doors, but the script and colors look very 70s.

Just looking for some info on if these would work 1950-59...

Thanks!!  ----Rob

It sounds as if you're right around in the ball park for what you have. I'd say fix 'em up & let 'em roll !
