Hi all,
Not long bought a GP7 from Ebay and it seems to have a noise in one direction from one truck like a gear is a bit suspect or something is caught in it and churning as it goes! I had to solder a wire to the side plate and THOUGHT I got rid of the noise. However it came back fairly quickly. Any ideas what to look for in these units please? I've never owned an Atlas unit before!
TIA

Well, I don't mean this to sound facetious, but now you know why it was for sale on e-Bay.
The only suggestion I can make is to see if the bottom cover plate can be removed from the truck and look for worn or cracked gears. If everything seems to be in order, lubricate it and see if it quietens. If not, you may need to contact Atlas and see if a replacement truck is available from their parts department.
Good luck.
Thanks,
Actually in the process of taking it apart and reassembing it, the noise seems to be in the opposite direction indicating to me a possible fault in the geared wheel set... it is not however patently obvious at the moment which and why!
Is there a drop in similar to the Athearn/Proto gear drop in or are the gears available in packets similar to those from Proto? Atlas is a little bit "rarer" here in Australia but of course not unknown.
As for ebay there were a number of units from the same vendor... I think mine more than likely was a bit of bad luck but as I have said, sometimes if I had a pet kangaroo, it would be my luck for it not to be able to hop!
Thanks but other suggestions what to look out for might be good. I would have thought that cracked gears were useless or noisy in both directions,
Regards
Trevor
