Woodland Scenics foam risers
Posted by D&HRR on Friday, December 28, 2007 8:28 AM
I am in HO scale an I am considering using the Woodland Scenics Foam risers to make a bridge. I would need the 4" risers and all my benchwork is complete so I am considering this system. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff and how well does it work. With the 4" rise what % grade is that. I like to run long trains and don't want too steep of a grade. Thanks for your assistance.

We can't determine the percentage of grade until we know how long the track from 0" to 4" will be.

Can you give us that number?

it would be about 8' to reach 4" so I guess the answer is 4%, I think, correct me if I am wrong. I did a little more research since I first posted.Sign - Oops [#oops]

I've used the 2% incline sets and they are superb. Easily worth the small cost.

Unless otherwise mentioned it's HO and about the 50's. Magnus

I'd reccomend the 2% grade, unless you need the 4% to reach a certain hight. I have the 4% installed on my layout, and while there's no major problems, you need to be careful of string-lining with trains of around 15 cars. Although, it's an excuse for helpers....Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

Good stuff.  I used them on the Yuba River Sub--both risers and the 2% incline.  They work really well, curve to any radius you want (mine is 34-36"), and you can stack them as high as you need.  The elevation on my MR is about 18" difference between the 0" at my yard to the Yuba Pass level.  On some of the higher elevations, I've used a combo of 2" extruded foam and the WS risers.  Works out very well.  I like them.  The inclines also come with a spec sheet on how to adjust gradient from 1 to about 4%.  The inclines themselves come in 2, 3 and 4%, so you can mix and match all you want.
