Best Price on Tortoise?
Posted by jxtrrx on Friday, November 9, 2007 8:45 AM
Getting ready to buy a bunch of Tortoise machines.  Best price I know of is $14 ea or $149/ doz. at Trainworld.  Anybody know of a better deal?

Try nhshobbies.com, I bought a 12 pack for 144.00. They are actually a hardware store in New York and  they give very good service.  Good luck

Try Cherry Creek hobbies. the last time i bought them they were around $13. A twelve pack is a better deal than buying them individually.

Once you get the tortoises, don't use the .025 spring steel rod that comes with them. They are a bit weak and can bend easily. Purchase some K & S spring steel rods (about .039 to .042.) They are much stiffer than the ones torotoise uses and you'll get maximum performance from the tortoise machine by upgrading the spring steel rod with thicker ones. They are just as easy to install as the stock spring steel rods. The only extra step you'll have to perform is cutting them to length and drilling out the hole a little bigger with a pin vise drill bit where they are inserted into the slide arm....chuck
