Readers,
I just can't stop looking at this great work that Lance has done on this HO layout. If you have not seen it yet it is worth the purchase price. Not just for the great photos of his outstanding work but for his comments in the inset on page 33.
He mentions three elements that are essential to creating realism: color, texture and scene composition. He furthur states that these are more important than "details".He lightly touches on two of these and I can understand them well enough. The one item he does not elaborate on is texture and whereas I think "we know it when we see it" I just can't seem to be able to figure it out. Perhaps he can explain more about all three and in particular "texture".
He writes; "If the color of a layout element is off or the scene composition is too cramped, we have a sense that something isn't quite right, even if we aren't exactly sure what it is".
Maybe the MR folks can direct his attention to this post or maybe he checks here daily. I would sure like to learn a whole lot more from this modeler.
When you go to his website on line www.shelflayouts.com there are more pictures of this layout and others he has built for other people. Some are under different groups so look at all of them.
