Truck mounted coupler pocket replacement
Posted by waterline on Friday, October 19, 2007 7:08 PM
I have a Rivarossi E-8 dummy engine with truck mounted couplers. These work well on my small radius turns. One of the coupler pockets has been broken off and  I can't remount the coupler. Does anyone know of a source for replacement trucks with coupler pockets? The truck is unpowered although it does have electric pickup Thanks for any help.

Can't help with a truck replacement, buy Kadee makes a lot of different types of mounts. Maybe you can adapt one of these.

It may take a bit of cutting and gluing, but you can almost always use a Kadee draft gear box to mount a Kadee coupler and spring in.  The box can be screw-mounted or glued to the truck in place of the original coupler pocket.  Kadee even puts out a package of #5 couplers with draft gear boxes for a couple of dollars.  You will probably have to very carefully remove some part of the old system, either with a Dremel, file or knife, but then you can mount the Kadee and have a great coupler.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
