Opinions sought - MRC 0001645 N Scale Drop-in Sound Decoder
Posted by Dave Vollmer on Sunday, October 14, 2007 1:07 PM

Guys/Gals,

I'm interested in adding sound to my Kato PRR E8 and the MRC 0001645 is supposed to be a drop-in decoder (with sound) replacement board for the Kato P42 and E8.

I heard one at my LHS installed in a P42 (it's also made for the E8), and it sounded decent, although it did not sound like an EMD 567 prime mover.

Nevertheless, the sound quality and projection was good for N scale and surprisingly clear. I've heard horror stories about MRC decoders. My LHS DCC expert said that it was only the first generation of MRC sound decoders that stunk. Anyone have any experience with the 0001645?

Thanks!
