Back to the basics
Posted by Chuck Geiger on Saturday, October 6, 2007 2:22 PM
I watched Model Railroaders DVD's this morning, Dream, Plan and Build and the scenery DVD. It's always good to have a refresher course and why more people don't build layouts like this, I am amazed. When I started in the 70's there was of course nothing like that, just the few books and the Atlas Snap-Track blue layout pamplet. To everyone that builds a first layout, cheers to you and welcome to the hobby.

Chuck, I haven't looked at any of these Dream-Plan-Build DVDs but I have browsed these Kalmbach 16-page Easy Model Railroading booklets and you are right: sometimes we should refresh our knowledge. Frequently something will appear in the forum here and I'll slap my forehead and exclaim, "I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT!"

When I joined the club in Taxachusetts back in the mid-60's they wired their track by drilling a hole through the web and running bare wire through that hole and then both ends went down through the roadbed to the underneath. I recently saw this procedure outlined in a 1940s or 1950s MR. I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT.

From the far, far reaches of the wild, wild west I am: rtpoteet
