Sorry for the question, but what is DIY?
I have heard of Working on the Railroad, but I have never seen it. Is it anything like Tracks Ahead?
That was on a PBS station out of Bemidji a number of years ago, but no longer. It is however still on the PBS station from Duluth....But that signal gets sucked into the ground before it get this far north.
Out here in the woods, I'm lucky if I regularly get three "broadcast" stations so we're a bit deprived. Again, sorry if it's a dumb question...But, I'm curious.
Cascade Green Forever ! GET RICH QUICK !! Count your Blessings.

DYI can be recieved if you get your TV from a satillite dish provider. I just had it installed this year and it's a whole lot better than cable TV...more TV and music stations than cable. They also have the RFD channel that on occasion has train shows on it.
DIRECTV with a Tivo is a definite must for the Model Railroader/Railfan. I often do a wishlist search by entering "railroad" or "trains" and find many programs that are coming. I set it to record the ones I want to see.
There are several excellent programs including:
"Tracks Ahead" on PBS
"Workin on the railroad" on the DIY channel
"Trains and Locomotives" on the RFD channel ( some great railfan videos- superchief, 1st generation disels, narrow gauge, etc.)
"Trains Unlimited" on the history channel ( some excellent produced videos of early 20th century railroading)
"Modern Marvels" on the history channel has had half a dozen or so shows on trains.
There are others!
Satellite TV is a definite must for the Model railroader. Additionally, by having satellite as opposed to cable we are helping protect the environment and safety of workers.
Cable wastes much copper stringing coax all over the country-this inflates copper prices in turn raising model locomotive prices!
Having cable people all over the country traumitizes animals and pets!! Who wants barking dogs when a cable person is in the neighborhood. Especially when gluing on grab irons!
Cable lines is a hazard to to the electrical lineman-they have to get past the cable to get to the high voltage wiring!
Having cable TV vehicles running all over the country uses lots of fossil fuels in turn raising gas prices- this makes trips to NMRA meets more expensive!
Cable is a bad deal! It should be outlawed.
DIRECTV is putting up a new satellite that will provide over 100 High definition channels by the end of the year. The whole cable system will need to be overhauled to do the same. This will endanger more people, use more copper, traumitize pets and use more gas!
So in closing, Satellite TV is the way to go for the railfan!!

Ahh the one place I come to get away from the Chicken Little's of the world only to read this garbage. Give me a break, do you work in the satellite industry by any chance?
I protect my pets from the evil cable effects by wrapping tinfoil around their heads.
Maybe he's a chewlies gum representative in training J/K I tried Sat. T.V and had nothing but troubles, I now have insight, and I have been very happy with the service, and their customer service.

That new satellite is to beam advertising directly into your brain. It is driving up the cost of aluminum foil as people catch on and protect themselves and their pets with foil hats.
Plus the government is using it to track all their black helicopters and railcars with shackles in them.

Hey! Who's dealing this card game?? You forgot to take the joker out of the deck!Give me a break! Isn't it strange how satellite TV is almost the EXACT same price as cable, even though they don't have to install and maintain a nationwide infrastructure like cable does??I'd rather have TV that stays on during cloudy weather, but I live in B.F.E. so I'm at the mercy of these satellite bandits. Kind of strange how Dish Network and Direct TV are within a few cents of each other too. Thought price fixing was illegal???
