Bowser caboose wheel rub
Posted by tshryock on Thursday, September 13, 2007 8:33 AM

I've got two Bowser cabooses and both have minor wheel rubs on one end. It acts as a sort of permanent brake and occasionally derails it.

Does anyone else have this problem -- and more importantly -- how should I solve it?

thanks

I've had that problem with a couple of Bowser's covered hoppers.  A Kadee washer between the truck bolster and car body to slightly raise it, helps.

I had the same problem with both trucks on an Intermountain assembled Centralia Car Shops caboose. I was really irritated with the problem since it was almost a $50 caboose. As stated above, Kadee washer was a quick and easy fix, and haven't had any problems.

Walthers cabooses and gondolas have this problem when negotiating 18" and 22" radii curves.  For the caboose, I shave off the backside corner of the stair well that rubs against the truck.  It improves it but doesn't eliminate the problem altogether.
