Hi Jeffrey,

If you want, you are welcome to my old Olympus D-550, which is a 3 megapixel, 3x optical zoom camera.  It does have a macro mode with a minimum focusing distance of 8".  It does record movies, albeit without sound.  It uses Smartmedia cards (I've got at least one I can send with the camera), as well as a set of four AA batteries (I'll include a set of four NiMH rechargeable batteries as well).  I'm pretty sure I don't have the manual for it anymore, but you can download it from the Olympus website.

Here's a review of the camera way back when it was released in 2002:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D550/D55A.HTM

Here's the Olympus webpage for the manual in PDF format:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_archived_product_details.asp?id=867&fl=8

Please PM me your address if you are interested.

See, some good has come out of the rancor of the WPF!  Kudos to Chip for putting this in motion.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Ummm, Chip...640x480 really IS old technology, but...pics from it would....er...violate bergie's recommendations on posted picture size...500 pixels wide if I recall...not that everyone adheres to that, I'm just sayin...

Pcarrel, I like that poster, but I'd note that the laws of physics don't actually forbid all that much and law enforcement seems to key on certain trigger activity...again, just sayin...

Bypass Bergies Restriction on the Pixel width and host the images off site somewhere else like Imageshack, photobucket etc and link back there.

Jeff,

As you know from our conversation a while ago, earlier today I made a very grave mistake.  I asked my wife if we could give way our camera and get a new one.  I didn't explain to her the reasoning behind my request for us giving away our (her) camera.  She didn't know what the deal was basically, and so the whole thing didn't make sense to her.  I'd forgotten that I gave her the camera a few years ago for Christmas, and so she was reluctant to give it up without understanding why.  An understandable reaction.

We just talked about it again and I explained the whole situation.  She is now 100% behind getting a new camera and giving the old one to you, if you're still interested.

It's a Vivitar 3935 (click the link) with a 512 SD card.  I'd be including rechargable batteries (it eats them up pretty fast so you'll need them) and a charger.  I also have the software and some paperwork around here somewhere.

If you're interested just let me know.  PM me with a place to send it and it's all yours.

No problem!

Now you have a few to pick from so you can have one, you can give one to David, whom I know is in about the same position financially as you are, and you can find another home for any others!

We're still looking for the large tripod.

Surely someone has upgraded theirs. Even if it is a little wobbley, His new camera has a timer.

Dig deep in that closet.

I've got a mini tripod thats made for the Vivitar that will go with the camera, but a big one would be cool!  I also have a camera bag and a spare SD256 card.

Yeah but luckily you don't need to read all of that... just most of it! Big Smile [:D]  Seriously, I think there's an intro section that covers all the basic functions, then the rest are the more detailed explanations.

I'll have to read that at several sittings. Many pages of small print and dyslexia don't mix.

Hey How are thoos tripods? I have seen them before never got one, I own a regular larger scale one. But are the small ones worth it?

BTW: The thing you setup for him was very kind. Jeff I hope you enjoy it, and the only thing I ask is that you keep thoose pictures coming ;)

I can't help with the camera thing, or the tripod, but I am completely amazed...you know, now that I think about it, that isn't true.  This isn't surprising, but it is great!  I've put a little something back into my signature that I took out a while ago.  It will be staying a good long time, this time!

I think Jeff will get some nice cameras and a small tripod.  Back where I come from, when it's an idea started by someone, he leads by example.  In other words, maybe you could ante up the floor unit tripod.

Jeff, what kind of software are you using to edit your pics?

I use a cheap photo editor that came with my old Aiptek Pencam and recently I've been trying PhotoI,pressions 4.0 which came with my Vivitar Mini Camera. I'm using Windows 98SE, so a lot of these new photo editors won't run on my system. Yesterday I got the FastStone image viewer which can also edit photos. I haven't tried it yet.

Despite all offer of other great equipment , I did drop mine in the mail to him. I told him if he gets the better stuff , pass mine on to someone in need. Apparently by next week he's going to have three cameras and tripods to match. Jeffrey will be ahead of all of us !!
