"Train show canceled" just no respect !
Posted by zxb1 on Sunday, August 12, 2007 4:42 AM
I'm typing in disgust due to a train show being canceled this weekend, yeah maybe I should've known had I went to the local web site. But hey why should I have to, I mean if it's suppose to happen then hey let it happen ! I planned my whole weekend for this show, I planned on purchasing some new blueline loco's maybe some more code 83 track, a little bit of reading material and maybe a video or two. When I arrived at the Raritan Expo center in Edison NJ I knew I felt bad vibes it did'nt quit feel right, I arrived in the parking lot only to see signs saying "Bead Show" and there was another event taking place which I don't know anything about. However I did see a note on the doors saying that the train show was canceled with an apology, and that the next scheduled show was for September 8th & 9th . I honestly feel that there is truly no respect for our Hobby !

I can understand why you would be mad, all the planning and then showing up.  Unfortunately circumstances may have dictated the last minute cancellation.  Generally speaking, shows need X amount of vendors to sign up before the show becomes viable, notice I did not say profitable.  Planning committees plan low for gate reciepts since that is the biggest variable as far as income, vendors represent solid income.  They proably did not get the number of vendors needed to cover operating expenses.

I had no idea there was supposed to be a show this weekend. I'm on their mailing list, and haven't heard a thing. Neither have any of my local friends. Where did you first hear about it?

Your August show was cancelled so you have to wait until September?  Don't feel too bad.  Our last show was in the early spring this year, and there's not another one scheduled until November.  Ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues...

The schedule change was advertised in the model rr press well in advance. I guess you just missed it.

Several years ago when I was really into guns, there was supposed to have been a gun show at the convention center. So, I took off and put other things off so I could go. After driving 60 miles, I walk up to the door with a bunch of other guys only to find a hand written sign saying that the show had been postponed for two weeks. You talk about mad!. So yeah, I know exactly how you feel...

The company I worked for sent me to that expo center to work a printing trade show one time. It was pathetic. No one showed up. We were expecting thousands of people every day. I bet we had about 200 show up in 3 days total. We sat around and watched sports blooper tapes for 3 days.Disapprove [V] I think that's just a bad area for shows.

Well I'm getting over it, and yes I guesse my wallet is happy. I guesse I was probaly so excited that I did'nt notice the cancelation notice, but the show normally happens every August around this time of the year. It's been going on two times a year, every year guesse I'll be there in september !

That was either due to poor promotion or lack of interest. The Greenberg show is mobbed whenever I've gone.
