Hi all-
I have a HO Bachmann Spectrum GE Dash 8-40 engine that I'd like to convert over to DCC. I had already converted a HO Bachmann Spectrum Amtrak F40 with a Digitrax DH123 decoder that was a bit challenging (tight).
I'd like to know if anyone can recommend a smaller decoder (possibly N scale?) that I can use and that will fit a bit easier into the engine.
Thanks...
The NCE 13 or 15 series decoders are smaller, also the MRC 1655 decoder is smaller. Most generic N scale decoders are smaller and should handle the load.. I don't remember off hand which decoder I put in my Spectrum dash 8's, I'll check tonight.

elansp,
I have an N-scale decoder in my Proto 2000 S1. Here's a couple of links to places that I get my recommendations from:
Empire Northern Models
Litchfield Station
Tony's Train Exchange

Wow, thanks for the lightning quick responses. Let me know which decoder you threw in you Spectrum and I'll place the order...
Thanks.
Sorry or thedelay, company. While Ihave several Bavhmann Spectrum Dash 8's I find I have only converted one, a Dash 8-40C. It is an older BlackBax Spectrum and I hard wired a MRC 1650 decoder into it. There was plenty of room, no problem. You could also use a NCE D13SR decoder, they are about the same size. If the loco will be one of your most used engines, you might want to pay the extra bucks and putin a NCE D15SR decoder. It is the same size as the others but has several upgraded features such as adjustable kick start voltage.
Good luck,
