There was a christmas sale to the hobby shop, managed to pick up a pair of con cor sd 24's and a pair of P2k 8000 gal tanks for free. The locos were a 2 fer one. Along with several other acquisitions my line is enjoying a good christmas.

We also got a peaceful day, no terror attacks of any kind here in the USA. We celebrate that.

I sent my son-in-law the Kato Unitrack K1 and K2 sets, plus a RailPower 1300 power pack for Christmas, plus an N scale CSX reefer as a belated birthday present. (I've passing along various bits of CSX stuff as he just started as a conductor for CSX.) I sent my grandson (other daughter) a LifeLike HO "Diesel Thunder" layout (he's six) that I snagged for $50 at Tuesday Morning. Just got word this evening that the packages all arrived in time and everybody's delighted, so I'm jazzed. [:)]

I guess maybe it's just good karma or something... I always tell 'em all that I buy myself presents all year long and I really don't need any gifts. I just enjoy giving them.

Go look for something terrific Friday. Maybe you'll strike gold in an after-Christmas sale!

Aside from the boring stuff,the family did get me some "train stuff" (their words). I particularly like the book my daughter got me. Its an illustrated history of locomotives. It lists each unit with a picture, and a few paragraphs describing the spec's, history, etc. I'' put it to good use.

My wife got me 4 DVD's of Great American Rail Journeys. She saw me watching the infomercial a couple of months ago. Each DVD spends an hour highlighting a specific passenger vacation type of rail journey, all currently in service. Their cool. I really like the "The Rockies by Rail" one. Its a seven day - six night cruise from Denver to Yellowstone NP. I would LOVE to do it, but at $3000.00+ a head, all I can think of (besides the fact I could not afford it in the first place) is that $9K (I have a family of 3) would buy alot of model RR stuff. I guess I need to add this story to the " You know your a MODEL railroader if ..." thread.

Got a Kato Amtrak Superliner Passenger Car set Phase IV. Really wanted the engine, but wife said that it was to hard to get so close to x-mas.

We have to admit though, unless our loved ones take a some what active interest in our passion for trains, it really is pot luck getting any thing that we really want, unless it's a gift certificate.

He left a note in my stocking, saying that due to the north poles economy crashing, he had to lay off all the elves and so christmas was cancled until further notice. But he did attach a picture of Osoma Bin Ladin and promised he'd be found this next year. Ironically it showed him tied up and laying across a set of rail road tracks with an old time 2-8-0 bearing down on him. [#wstupid][soapbox]

In fact, I got a big bag o' nothing for Xmas - a shared fondue pot with the wife from the kids, and a pair of gym shorts.

Not like what I like isn't well known, but no one wants to go to the trouble to buy something so specialized for the trains. In their defense, it is hard to do.

Hope you guys all have more understanding families regarding trains.

The good news is, I spent part of today doing a first switching run on my new branch line, and it was a blast, so it was kind of a gift to myself! There are a few bugs to work out, but the switchting scheme came out about right - not to intracite, but not dull, either.

I know Santa stopped off at many of your houses, condo's, town houses and shacks and left some gifts for the model railroader. Our family received a number of Red Caboose and LBF cars of various types, three video's - two train related and one weathering techniques - and I'm not sure what else as we have more presents to open in a couple of hours. But what did you folk receive?
