I've ordered from them many times and always got quick, reliable delivery.

And yeah, they're not precisely warm and fuzzy. But is it rude? What some take as rude and snotty can also simply be a direct, to-the-point attitude. As a (now expatriate) New Yorker I often find that people think I'm being rude when I'm simply trying to cut to the chase and get something done. To me, saying something like "are you going to order or not?" isn't really rude so much as no-nonsense -- particularly if you're calling a number set aside for orders.

And that is also part of my experience with them. Customer service is far better if you call their direct (718) number then if you call the toll-free number (which, in all fairness, they clearly say is for sales only). They're not precisely chatty even then, but I've always gotten answers to my eustions without any attitude.

In the end, if saving a few bucks by not having everyone call the 800# with '20 questions' helps them keep costs down, it's fine by me...
