Lisa,
That sounds like fun. Museums can spark lots of ideas for the layout. We will be heading over to Larry's sister's place in eastern Washington for the 4th. We are hoping to hit the Northern Pacific Museum in Toppenish. We will have to compare notes when you get back.
Have a great camping trip.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Hi all,
Just checking in. I spent Tuesday at the Strasburg Railroad smack in the middle of Amish country in Lancaster County, PA. Highly recommend it if you're ever in the area.
They have passenger excursions, pulled by steam, on some beautifully restored PRR cars (circa 1900) - they'll even drop you off at a small picnic grove on the way out and pick you up on the way back on any later train.
The icing was the PRR railroad museum across the street - WOW. Loaded with steam, diesel and rolling stock plus some interesting exhibits. There's also an outside yard with some other locos (looked like K4's). Unfortunately, the heat (95f) was just a little too much for my cousin, who has Parkinson's, so we cut it a little short. It was great to get him out for the day - that disease is really debilitating. I plan on making a return trip to see what I missed.
Well, Lisa is off for the holiday week, so we will have to hold down the fort.
Jim, As a dental hygienist, I have had several patients with Parkinson's. It is hard to watch them as the disease progresses. They become less responsive because it is too hard to respond. I find myself using yes or no questions as I attempt to involve them in conversation. It is great he can still enjoy outings. Value that.
George, Are you back to the layout? Some of your best photos came when we were discussing the 130' Walthers TT. I hope that we will see photos soon.
I am off work until the 10th and it is raining. Maybe there will be some layout time.

George, I am sure that the deck will only seem large when you are working on it. Ours is just shy of 900 sq ft. We have been trying to pressure wash and are just about half finished. Our goal was to apply a sealer this week. We will be lucky to finish the pressure washing. It sure is hard on the aching body.
I should head out but I am thinking that I may cut fence posts for my loading shute on the layout.
George, Did you get your deck done? Are you still planning the trip to Washington? Now you are back to the layout, what new projects are you working on?
Lisa, We have not heard from you for a while. You are probably getting in pretty good shape.

Back on the layout doing scenery and learning Rail-ops for operations. Finding TONS of things I would have done different on the construction of the layout. The biggest is the lack of focus and planning for tunnel entrance and exit by not leaving enough sub roadbed to nount the tunnel portals to.
THe trackwork is bullet proof. NO derailments from trackwork ALL from operator error. The Digitrax is flawless and the JMRI Interface is one of the better things we did. Lots of picturs just have to get some room on one of my websites to post them.
Washington got taken off the list due to business problems with our webstore. That started on 6/29 and was fianly fixed on 7/31. The $$$ loss was 10 times what I have in the trains. We have a distributor doing it for us.
Hope to post some pics SOON.
As requested: This is the town of Nanticoke now
This is East Nanticoke
Lots more but getting late.

Wow, George, you are really going to town. I love the soot on the sandstone building. That is a great touch. If you have your second RH done, you have been very busy.
Sorry to hear about the business problems, and the fact that you won't be out this way. Summer finally got here, and the weather has been pleasant.
I wonder where Lisa is.
Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been in for a while, I haven't had time to get online. My mom's going in for a knee replacement soon and I've been over there helping out quite a bit. So between keeping up with the three boys, helping Mom and keeping my house from turning in to a dump, I've been rather busy. I'm glad to see you all have been keeping up, I just wish I had more to report on the train side of my life but mine's been put on hold for now I Just don't have the energy. Well glad to hear everyone is still "kicking". George sorry to hear about the problems you've been having, hope everything works out.
See you all later!
Sounds like a busy schedule. You are the reason that I am here so glad to hear from you. Hope your mom deals with the surgery ok. It seems like most surgeries are a relief. She will be in our prayers.
I am doing a rails to trails bike ride tomorrow. There is a 2.3 mile tunnel that I hope to get photos of.
Later, Sue
I think Mom will do quite well, she's still young(63) and is in good health over all( in some ways she's in better health than I am), so I don't forsee any major problems just a few temporary adjustments and she'll be much better off when all is said and done. My family is all in good health and I am feel pretty good, I've lost 10lbs(35 to go) and have been walking steady, I find my knees don't bother me as offten now that I am more active.
Sue I hope have a good time on your bike trip, it sounds like a lot of fun, I'm looking foward to the Pics.
Have fun all and take care
Congrats on the weight loss.
The bike trip was a blast. The tunnel made me feel like a drunk. It seemed like I zigged and zagged, and luckily I didn't fall. No crashing into the wall either.

The west end.
The avalanche shed. ( My favorite )

It has been a month since we have heard from you. I assume that the kids are back in school. Did you get any layout time this summer?
Hopefully, all is well with your family.
George,
Now that you are back to the layout, what projects have you been working on? I always enjoy your photos. I have not been working much on the layout. We go in and exercise the locos but are trying to get everything done outside before winter hits.
We sold the 41 Plymouth. Larry's video really sold it. Thought that you might like to see it.

I miss it but it is great to have the garage back. We just weren't finishing it.
I hope we hear from Lisa one of these days.

Sue, I can claim BRAIN DAMAGE: Latest TOY
1935 Chevy Modified. A little better than what I had in the 1960's.
Inside is another story

53rd Childhood,
George, Somehow I missed this. If Larry sees your Chevy, I will be in trouble. He lifted a Dodge PU with a 10 inch kit. We must have our hobbies. He is back into RC gliders. However, he crashed his childhood glider yesterday while I was at work. What now?
Lisa, Glad to have you back. Try to check in more.
Bent it a little, got it almost fixed. Need the car fro Daytona in Feb. The trains are alive and well. All the track is now set in stone. The ONLY problem is that I took up to much space for track and must rethink a large part of the scenery.
Hi Miss Lisa, all is well at this end hoep the same for you.
Now that we can get back into the old threads, I thought that I would check on George and Lisa. What is going on with your layouts?
Happy Holidays Miss Sue!!!
The layout has undergone some track changes since we have been running it for about a year. Made some STABS at scenery but 95% of my time has been working on some guns we bought. We have the land out in Edgefield S.C. and can shoot on it and now Krysti has gotten into the act. She bough an AR-15 and a Chinese SSK semi auto rifle.
Hope you and yours are well!
You sound like Larry. He just finished polishing and stoning the hammer/sear on both of our 10-22's. Now my stock is 1 1/2 " shorter. We have a shooting range on our place, too.
When you have lots of toys, nothing ever gets finished.
Hope that you and Krysti had some great holiday fun.
Happy New Year, George and Krysti. Lisa, too, if you are around.
Sue and Larry
Well same to you! Hope it is better than 2008 ended, YUCK!
Went into the SUB-BASEMENT to see how our retirement plans where doing!!
Hope Santa was good and that all this phoney recessioin is allowed to go back to normal.
I know. Panic sure takes things down. I figure that patience is the key to riding it out. Neither of us are ready to retire yet, so we should be able to wait it out. Hope you haven't been hit too hard.
I worked on my first layer of water in the streambed today. Larry painted a background building for me. Progress.
We have had serious weather issues since the middle of December. Snow then flooding. Finally we are getting back to normal.
Well the weather is GOOD and warm for S.C.
We bought bunch of pop guns to play with:
Krysti is doing well. she got herself an AR-15, Walther PPK, Glock 9 mm and a SSK. I got a few collector type (3) Russian Nagant 7.62x54r, M1 Garand 1943 from the Arlington Va. Armory, Walther PPKS, 1911 .45 acp and a Marlin 30/30.
Trains:
Nothing new, just going crazy trying to get all the track work perfect so that the club likes it and then MAYBE some scenery. I am changing ALL the Atlas turnouts to Peco. To many frog problems.
Cars:
Ferrari is gone, also the 1980 Corvette. Giving to a good home a 1985 Coachmen Class "C" Ford powered that needs to be redone. Was going to be a track truck for the modified BUT bought a 37ft Class "A" Diesel pusher instead.
Family
The "GIRL" is an Opera singer and just got back from Portugal where she introduced a new opera at the request of the composer. Her head ALMOST did not fit in the plane to come home. (We did not go had to work)
Business:
Still alive, tried to play Titanic but it is floating again. Reworking our websites. No more PC going to MAC for all business and website work. Still have to many PC's to just dump them but the I-MAC works rings around them when it comes to the Internet and anything graphic. Heck Decoder Pro runs cleaner and faster than ever before.
Other than that nothing new LOL
Name spelled wrong BUT not a bad picture of the CAR
