Twice now I have tried to visit the Strang site. Both times, my computer locked up! I have to go to Task Manager to close out the window.
I even tried the old trick of copying the URL and pasting it in a new browser window. It opens a window for Adobe, but won't display anything AND it locks up my computer.
It may be the new Adobe software. I've had LOTS of trouble with the 7.0 version, to the point that I went back to the old 6.0 version. Unfortunately, some sites don't recognize the older version and if you try to view something on that site, it downloads the newer version, giving you a bunch of problems along with it!
You would think that a company providing software would make sure the software works before unleashing it on an unsuspecting public. And I won't even comment on Microsoft's new "Vista" or "Live One Care" except to say be forewarned!!
Darrell, quiet...for now
I agree with crabster about the A&LS. It's an interesting railroad from the photos I've seen in MR. I'd like to see more photos and a Keller DVD on the road.
Thanks for the links to his trackplan and TT.

I always liked Stang's column too, he ususally had at least a few good tips in every one. It would be nice if he decided he has taken enough of a break now from the column and went back to writing it again. I know I'd look forward to it every month.

I believe MR canceled his column..I suspect it was from readers request.

Darrell, you have some other problem with your computer. I just linked to the A&LS track plan (wow!) and had no problem at all. And, yes, I'm using Windows XP and Adobe 7.0. I'm no fan of Macroshaft or Adobe but have to admit that they're the worst software out there except all the rest (to paraphrase Mr Churchill).

But Tony's "drivel" is one of my favorite parts of MR. "Different strokes..." and all that.

Guys,
No, we did NOT cancel Lionel's column, and it was very popular with the readers. (How do these rumors get started? - Certainly not from us!) In fact, we have another story coming from Lionel, he remains a valuable part of the MR team as one of our two Contributing Editors, and we hope that his schedule permits him to write even more in the future.
Regarding Tony's column, it remains very popular also, and remember: It's called "Trains of thought" for a reason, namely that we have asked him to write a column that pushes the hobby out farther than many of us go, especially in the areas of realism and operation. It's one of the ways MR serves the more experienced hobbyists. The internet rumor about Tony having an attitude is completely wrong as well. He's one of the nicest guys in the hobby and is always interested in learning from what others are doing.
We appreciate the feedback we get regarding the magazine on surveys, in letters, and here (when we have time to look, though we're not able to browse very often). And if you didn't like a story, or think it had errors, it's fair to say so. However, please consider this: Every time someone goes past commenting on a story and starts criticizing the author himself (or herself), not only do those comments make that author question whether or not it's worth writing the next story, but they probably discourage a potential author as well - and we'll never know what that new author would have contributed.
Thanks for your consideration, and most of all, thanks for reading MR!
