Fine looking loco's. I'm waiting on a limited edition Stewart FT NYC catwhisker A/B set. Of course they won't have sound. And when they do they won't sound as good as the BLI loco's.

About time!

This is slated to be the competition for the Athearn Genesis F7. The photo looks nice and shows some cool details on the body.

The Genesis F units are beautiful, but in my humble opinion BLI will win hands down in the sound category.

QSI has remained committed to using "Authentic" sounds for diesels instead of the synthesized sounds (which totally turned me off when I heard the sound equipped (MRC) Genesis F units last year.

That is an outstanding pair of Fs. Are the B units going to be powered or dummy?

Now I'm happy. An undec version with the Mars light will be available.

(stripping paint off of new models can get tiresome after a while).

I have the ABBA on order for the B&O.

I have to say that is one fine image of the units.

I agree that offering a few undecorated models is just great, but the number of people that paint their own is a smaller amount than the prepainted versions for the masses. I still paint a few when I feel they require it.

Most of the imports today have great paint and are really good quality compared to ten years ago and are acceptable in most cases. In some cases, the paint tone is incorrect or they do not offer the right scheme and painting is required.

I think when an importer brings in too many undecorated models, they sometimes end up on shelves and then are deemed poor stock since they did not sell them. This has caused some of the models to be painted only, since they normally sell better.

Has anyone purchased or seen the Broadway Limited F7s yet?
Can you comment on them?

How do they compare to the Athearn F7s?

I agree Bangert.

Just that in my case I'm modeling the Seaboard Coast Line, so I have to do it the "old fashion way" by way of airbrush and Microscale decals.[;)]

Isn't the striping and lettering on a Western Maryland F7 supposed to be a deep yellow, Dulux or gold, and not white?

I'd hope that it just looks white on their sample due to their having to brighten up the photo.

Nice looking, even the 'wagon wheel' radio gear - but no D/B? the photo of the WM also has no D/B - are all the models like this shell?

I think the Western Maryland units should be delux Gold or deep yellow.

I sure hope so.

I dont think these units has hit the street yet. Right now they are on order and will arrive after the production is finished. For me it probably represents a very big motive power purchase and is very excited about it. I look forward to it.

It's too bad BLI didn't do their homework for the Fireball. There's a long list of what's wrong with these "F"s. The herald on the nose door, the side fireball heralds showing red stars, position of the hearalds and lettering, no nose or windsheild grabs, horns and not sure if the no. coinsides with the phase of some units for the dymanic fan sizes. The list goes on. A simple call to the WMRHS would save the trouble, many of the experts would gladly have suppied all the proper info to make them right. Too bad- I won't be buying any.

I attended the Winchester ,Va. club show and sale Saturday. One booth had two F-7 BLI's in Western Maryland. They where the only ones he had gotten in. The sound was really good considering all the background noise . The only problem I could see was that they had what he called a cab light that was on all the time that I watched it. It was a LED but it shined right up through the windshield of the engine. I asked if he could shut it off and he said he thought that it could be but he wasn't sure how. I have two B&O's ordered so it should not be to much longer. [:)] Jim

Unfortunately, the Western Maryland F7 are just plain painted wrong. A number of people from the WMRHS have confirmed the errors. The lettering is wrong, the fireball is wrong, the angles of the striping are too sharp and the stripes are white instead of gold/yellow. Even the horns are wrong. I emailed BLI and they confirmed that the photo on the website represents what the shipped models look like. This is really a shame. I model the WM/B&O post WWII and I would have loved a set with sound to replace my Stewarts. BLI said they were going to be selling them at a discount on their website. Whether the paint job can be salvaged with new decals remains to be seen. - Nevin

Another source: "discounthobbywarehouse.net" offering BLI F-7A+B with sound for preorder $289.00 and sale $299. With units actually out there preorder may be moot.

Sounds like their Western Maryland has some "paint job" problems, but the GN units appear to be correct. My other two diesels have MARS lights, and I was glad to see that this new BLI F7 was the freighter model, with just the headlight.

All in all, I think BLI did a good job on their F7 units.... Bob

I think the Western Marylands might be salvageable with proper decals. I'll have to look over the Champs line up and see what is out there. That's just too bad.

I dont know about the ABBA as a band, I was a Journey man myself along with other bands of the time.

The B&O should come in pretty good. If I get them in I'll let you know how they went.

You have raised a good point with the D/B's not being on the shell. The BLI web pages below illustrate the D/B's on both the WM and the UP models, along with several others.

It might be the pilot model that was painted used a non D/B shell by mistake and the production models will have the proper installation of D/B's as the prototype used them.
The two pages below show both the WM and UP with D/B's illustrated . Lest hope they get it right for the models.

Hopefully, someone that views the actual model will let us know the facts about this detail.

I honestly dont know how to identify D/B's on the F series. I would hope that the B&O's have them.

Spotting features for the dynamic brakes are:
FTs that telltale box on each side ofthe roof these on the later , origional had the grid box flat w/ very little protruding

F-3s all phases except rebuilds. 2 rectangular grids on the roof just ahead of the exhaust stacks and just behind the cab doors. Rebuilds some called the F-5 had the grids replaced with a 36" fan some 48"

F-7s early phases had a single 36" fan just ahead of the stacks and behind the cab doors,
later units/ phases had a 48" fan
These features may vary from build date and road but I believe to be close, if someone can add or correct, please do.

Hope the B&O Fs are accurate, have no problem w/ the BLI E units so far. Can't get enough of those F units.
