Tooth picks, an N scale model railroader's best friend...

Since I've been in this hobby, I've used tooth picks for so many things I can't even recall them all. I've used the square ones to make track ties out of and painted them black, round ones to make fence posts and telephone poles and log loads for flat cars, etc. I've also used them for applying decals, cleaning gunk off of loco wheels, installing traction tires, painting small areas and so forth. I honestly don't know what I would do without them...

Thank goodness for the little multipurpose, inexpensive wooden stick!.

The round ones make good uncoupling picks for knuckle couplers, too.

Don't forget putting on small dabs of glue or lubricant

Old fashioned wooden matches (with the head removed) are also useful for a variety of model rr purposes.

My wife went to a craft store and bought me a bag of 500 high quality wood sticks for a couple of bucks, about the size of tooth picks but with no tapered ends. So they are uniform. At the time I said "thank hon" and thought no more about it. But lately I have been using them for all sorts of purposs, including under the Walthers plastic street system sidewalks. And I have been thinking about a scratch built loading platform ...
