Cereal box cardboard trains
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, September 17, 2005 6:56 PM
Hi- Does anyone remember the trains, approximatel HO size as I recall, that were printed on cereal boxes (Wheaties or Kix?) and could be cut out and assembled? I recall a GG1, a steam loco, and various cars- different items came on different boxes. I believe the reverse side might have included railroad stories (not sure on this). I would guess that this was around 1950. I would appreciate any information on this- I couldn't find anything using Google. Thanks- Richard W.

I don't remember the card board trains on cereal boxes, but I do seem to remember getting a dummy F A diesel in a box of cereal though. It was black plastic and came with dummy knuckle couplers. Anyone remember these. Had to have been about the middle 50"s. Ken

Weren't there also metal railroad logos that were free with some cereal?
Somehow I remember shredded wheat as having the cardboard trains
Wheaties had actual little 7 inch disney records on the back cover!

Indeed, Rich, I remember these. In particular, there were a number of New Haven items including motive power (EP-4?) in the McGinnis scheme and various rolling stock. I can still recall cutting them out off the rear panel of the cereal boxes.

Buster Brown shoes back in thr fiftys, when you purchase shoes you was giving a punch freight train, I remember getting shoes and the punch out train. I don't remember what the shoes looked like but I do the train.
