It's a great system. I'd buy one like a shot but for the fact that it needs the dedicated control gear. I heard a rumour shortly after the loco first came out suggesting that a DCC conversion kit might be on the way, but I've not heard anything since - I think if someone figured out a way to make these locos work on DCC they would sell a lot more of them. There's no technical reason it couldn't - DCC has enough power to heat the water and the function buttons could be used to control the reverser, whistle, etc.
