Many years ago, my wife gave me a brass model of Skookum. The prototype was a Baldwin 2-4-4-2 Mallet ....
October 2018 Trains has a fascinating article about the history of this steam locomotive. It was in an accident in 1955, and its remains were left abandoned in the mud for many years.... Trains' story on how this locomotive was saved and how it is being restored to be an operating locomotive is remarkable. I suggest getting a copy of Trains to read it.

Here is another photo of my Skookum. One corner of my layout is 1900 era, and that is where I took this photo.
It is a neat article in Trains. Spoiler alert: the engine and tender had derailed on a low bridge and were leaning over at an alarming angle so the crew left the engine. But then the fireman realized that the water could run low and the boiler could explode so he cautiously went in the cab and turned on the water injector, which changed the center of gravity just enough that the leaning turned into an actual tumble over the side. Don't try to replicate that with your beautiful model!
I suppose he didn't dump the fire because that might set the bridge on fire.

Here is Skookum on my current layout with some of my old 1900 era freight cars.
Great! I have three Oriental Powerhouse Mikados and one Pacific and they are fantastic runners.
I have never owned one of the 2-4-4-2 models, but I do love them.
