Easy as Pi......

Click on your photo in Photobucket to enlarge it.  Over on the right simply click on "IMG".  That will copy the url.  Then go back to the forum, put your curser where you want the photo and then hold down the command key and press "v".  The Url for the photo will be placed there.  When you hit "submit your reply", the photo will magically appear in your reply....

What is the large object just behind the headlamp (painted with the "rising sun" motif)?

Some have said a sand box,but my belief is it was simply a structural palette for the sunburst and other designs meant for crossing safety.

the rising sun motiff was discontinued after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and our entry into WWII.

What type of steam locomotive is that?  It looks like a large mallet of some sort.

Also what is the wheel arrangement?

I looked it up in my handy, dandy Guide to North American Steam Locomotives (revised edition 2015 Kalmbach Books).  The locomotive is a class L-105 simple articulated 4-6-6-4 "Challenger" type built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and delivered to the D&RGW in 1938.  The object behind the headlamp is referred to as a sandbox and after December 7th, 1941, the "rising sun" motif was replaced with ordinary "zebra stripes".

Yep' DRGW L-105, this is a model imported by Max Gray and erected by Katsumi of Japan in 1962. Upgraded with a Tsunami sound decoder last year.

still a excellent slow speed runner even after 55years.
