Well, it's freezing cold here (5 degress farenheight!!), so if it wasn't for work I wouldnt be going outside today. Open house tomorrow for my club, so won't be on much lol. Anyway, here's a recently finished project of mine. An OLD former LEFC hopper
Custom decals, paint and weathering. Let's see more good stuff.

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
I have been in paint mode for the week, probably getting started on decals later tonight on the McHugh Brothers Baldwins. Though they have nothing to do with Christmas they sure fit in.

Jimmy, nice work on that hopper, but that type of weathering is not my cup of tea!
Casey, those are beautiful diesels, I was not expecting those colors when you showed the in progress photos.
With all that is going on I did not get anything done this week, so I have picked out a few of my favorite models from the past year!
Athearn 86' Greenville Boxcar Kit, replaced the cast on grabs with wire grabs, and cast sill steps with A-Line sill steps. Painted the car with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Floquil Platinum Mist paints, and then lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was used to haul fiberglass hood panels from a plant in Illinois.
While on the IC/ICG kick, here is an Atlas Trainman 3650CF ACF Covered Hopper kit, removed the cast on Roofwalk and the side stiffener. Replaced the Roofwalk with a Plano kit. Painted the car with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Dan Kohlberg's decals.
I managed to pickup a Rec Caboose Undecorated Coil Car kit and painted it for the IC railroad, Car was painted with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Black Paints, then lettered with Dan Kohlberg's decals. The funny thing is the IC put the car number on the hoods, I wonder how long they lasted with the same car.
The 8th car I have built of this class of cars, have one more in process and another 5 to go after that!Tichy Anderson's quasi covered hopper car, of an Ex-Wabash USRA Panel Side Hopper with car extension and canvas topper to haul grain from Maumee to Toledo.
One of three Enterprise Covered Hoppers the NYC transferred to the Canada Southern Railroad, Eastern Car Workskit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Aberdeen Decals.

That bright paint scheme wasn't what I was expecting either, RDG Casey. I'm used to the usual Reading green. Of course, back then with the "new" diesels, bright colors were the norm and the McHugh Brothers sure liked to see their name in BIG letters! Beautiful work, as always.

Sharp looking cars, Rick. That Hi-Cube sure gets some attention! My patience would be stretched pretty thin trying to work the decals around those ribs on the CASO hopper, though ! Excellent!
You and I have the same passion for passenger trains, Garry. Could you clue me in on the stainless-sided E-8. Was that a Proto model after Walthers bought the line?
[edit] Garry, I did some digging and saw that Walthers offered the Santa Fe E8s and CB&Q E9s with plated sides. Lots of the old P2Ks on ebay but just painted silver.
I have a bunch of the BLI C-Z cars and a pair of those "Thoroughbreds" would sure look nice on the point.
Grampy, that's a perfect scene at the feed mill. Not much work getting done, just a bunch of fella's chewin' the fat! Nice!
Camp 13 is looking great, Mike. I'm not sure I'd want to be standing anywhere near under that two-ton chunk of timber flying above!
I hope you fellas' arent tired of seeing the East end of the yard but that is where a lot of my work has been taking place this week. You remember a few weeks ago it was just plywood and open-air!
Here's an overall view showing a little more foliage and a new cantilevered signal.
A closer look at the signal. Sixteen tiny magnet wires coming off that baby! I use Logic-Rail signal animators, heads are BLMA three-color and the bridge is a Model Memories etched brass kit. Time consuming but worth it, IMHO.
Speaking of etched brass, here's the light tower, wired and installed. I like it!
Looks like I should have plugged the holes where the wire passes through... Those "cans" are Faller flower pots and the back "funnel" pieces are parlor car chair pedestals left over. Amazing what you can make from stuff out of the junk box!
Lastly, here's two shots of the Huletts. I have been putting off painting until I decide what to do about lighting them. Obviously I can't represent every light fixture on them but I'd like a representative number, at least.
So, just today, my package arrived from China with the WeHonest pre-wired white lamp shades enclosed.
Here, I just taped two in place to get a feel for them. I think they're going to be OK
Here's the prototype. I see there's only 2 white ones and three green shades. Of course, our model ones are rather large by comparison, but... that is always the compromise.

I have been fighting with the weathering in my turntable pit. I went nuts with the rust but CG pointed out that the only way there would be that much rust accumulation would be if the bridge had been left in one place for years.

Dave, Fun seeing your weathering adventures, even if the rust wasn't appropiate it had some good variation and color. The overall grunge and dirt stains make the piece look old and well worn, nice.
