Finally able to upload to Photo Bucket
Here is the start of a welding scene I'm working on
It uses a Surface Mount Bright White LED for the welder
It uses a TCS F L 4 Decoder to make it flicker
but i keep breaking the little copper wires

“I have been fighting with the weathering….” I didn’t think that fighting was permitted on the forum Dave!!! The trouble is, I suspect, that you are your own worst critic and like myself have difficulty in stopping while you’re ahead.
Cheers, the Bear.
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Thanks Bear for starting us off again this weekend.
Great stuff again this week guys. gmpullman, the light tower and cantilevered signal bridge are great.
An extra car is attached to the local commuter to accommodate the Christmas shoppers.
Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.
Remember its your railroad

Nice run-by and camera angle there Cecil b deBear, and thanks for the WPF opening.
Jimmy, Your dirty weather worn hopper has to tickle the fancy of any grime fan and that includes me.
RDG Casey, Ahh, dandy set of Baldwins and the kind of workbench from which superb modeling flows.
Rick, Nice tarpaulin on that Tichy hopper.
Garry, What's not to like about a trio of F units idling on the starting line.
Grampys Trains, Those foreground structures are my favorite, but wait, it's the work worn locomotive, ah shucks it's gotta be those trucks, or is it the background? I give up, exquisite scene and modeling.
Mike, Your contributions are always uplifting just like your derrick, the rigging job is amazing.
Ed, Such rapid progress and quality modeling at the same time, impressive to say the least.
Dave, Fun seeing your weathering adventures, even if the rust wasn't appropiate it had some good variation and color. The overall grunge and dirt stains make the piece look old and well worn, nice.
Big thanks to all for taking the time and making the effort in sharing your modeling during what can be a very hectic part of year.
Regards, Peter
Hey everyone! Great pictures.
Bear: I love the eye level video!
Jimmy: Truly excellent weathering!! Looks exactly like the real thing!
RDG: Nothing to do with Christmas eh! You have to set up something around your tree with those. Nice work!
Rick J: Very nice!
Garry: Great line up!
Grampy: Great scene! Parking lot is really well done.
Mike: Your logging scene is very well done. The rigging is impressive!
Ed: Amazing progress! The signal bridge is excellent! Light tower is superb!! Loader lighting will look great!!!
I have been fighting with the weathering in my turntable pit. I went nuts with the rust but CG pointed out that the only way there would be that much rust accumulation would be if the bridge had been left in one place for years.
With the rust stain:
Found some grey paint to mix up. Rust stain gone:

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Another Weekend!
They sure do sneak up on ya' fast around these parts!
Thanks for the neat video run-by, Bear. A 2-10-2 and an EM-1 with 22 cars in-tow, piece of cake!
The weathering may be pretty extensive, Jimmy, but it sure looks realistic! Here's a shot of a nearly identical car!

Nice work.
That bright paint scheme wasn't what I was expecting either, RDG Casey. I'm used to the usual Reading green. Of course, back then with the "new" diesels, bright colors were the norm and the McHugh Brothers sure liked to see their name in BIG letters! Beautiful work, as always.

Sharp looking cars, Rick. That Hi-Cube sure gets some attention! My patience would be stretched pretty thin trying to work the decals around those ribs on the CASO hopper, though ! Excellent!
You and I have the same passion for passenger trains, Garry. Could you clue me in on the stainless-sided E-8. Was that a Proto model after Walthers bought the line?
[edit] Garry, I did some digging and saw that Walthers offered the Santa Fe E8s and CB&Q E9s with plated sides. Lots of the old P2Ks on ebay but just painted silver.
I have a bunch of the BLI C-Z cars and a pair of those "Thoroughbreds" would sure look nice on the point.
Grampy, that's a perfect scene at the feed mill. Not much work getting done, just a bunch of fella's chewin' the fat! Nice!
Camp 13 is looking great, Mike. I'm not sure I'd want to be standing anywhere near under that two-ton chunk of timber flying above!
I hope you fellas' arent tired of seeing the East end of the yard but that is where a lot of my work has been taking place this week. You remember a few weeks ago it was just plywood and open-air!
Here's an overall view showing a little more foliage and a new cantilevered signal.
A closer look at the signal. Sixteen tiny magnet wires coming off that baby! I use Logic-Rail signal animators, heads are BLMA three-color and the bridge is a Model Memories etched brass kit. Time consuming but worth it, IMHO.
Speaking of etched brass, here's the light tower, wired and installed. I like it!
Looks like I should have plugged the holes where the wire passes through... Those "cans" are Faller flower pots and the back "funnel" pieces are parlor car chair pedestals left over. Amazing what you can make from stuff out of the junk box!
Lastly, here's two shots of the Huletts. I have been putting off painting until I decide what to do about lighting them. Obviously I can't represent every light fixture on them but I'd like a representative number, at least.
So, just today, my package arrived from China with the WeHonest pre-wired white lamp shades enclosed.
Here, I just taped two in place to get a feel for them. I think they're going to be OK
Here's the prototype. I see there's only 2 white ones and three green shades. Of course, our model ones are rather large by comparison, but... that is always the compromise.
Great Stuff, as usual! On to more...
Regards, Ed
Bear,
That's one rocking heavy freight. I love it! Yep, the holidays are upon us, when RRers and selected others are volunteered to make sure the Christmas cheer arrives on time and in good order. Bless them all, as Tiny Tim would say.
Jimmy, Nice weathering work on that LEFC car.
RDGCasey, Those are RR-Xmassy
Rick, Those are greatest hits worth rembering
GARRY, That pic might be titled "The Need for Speed."
Grampys Trains, That green is already looking good here, with snow on the ground and an ice storm trying to start going. If we can have Xmas in July, why not July in January? Sounds good to me right now. Brrr!
A couple of pics up around Camp 13, before the snows sat in.
Happy Holidays and be safe out there!

Nice colorful line up, Garry. A shot of Eshleman's Feed.
Bear .... Impressive video. US trains must be popular there.
Casey ... Baldwins look good. I see what you mean about Christmas colors.
Jimmy .... Your hopper looks great.
Rick .... I see why you picked those cars as favorite models. You certainly do good work with freight cars.
Here is a line up of trains ready to depart from Union Station.

Bear, thanks for starting off and a good video!
Jimmy, nice work on that hopper, but that type of weathering is not my cup of tea!
Casey, those are beautiful diesels, I was not expecting those colors when you showed the in progress photos.
With all that is going on I did not get anything done this week, so I have picked out a few of my favorite models from the past year!
Athearn 86' Greenville Boxcar Kit, replaced the cast on grabs with wire grabs, and cast sill steps with A-Line sill steps. Painted the car with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Floquil Platinum Mist paints, and then lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was used to haul fiberglass hood panels from a plant in Illinois.
While on the IC/ICG kick, here is an Atlas Trainman 3650CF ACF Covered Hopper kit, removed the cast on Roofwalk and the side stiffener. Replaced the Roofwalk with a Plano kit. Painted the car with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Dan Kohlberg's decals.
I managed to pickup a Rec Caboose Undecorated Coil Car kit and painted it for the IC railroad, Car was painted with Scalecoat II IC Orange and Black Paints, then lettered with Dan Kohlberg's decals. The funny thing is the IC put the car number on the hoods, I wonder how long they lasted with the same car.
The 8th car I have built of this class of cars, have one more in process and another 5 to go after that!Tichy Anderson's quasi covered hopper car, of an Ex-Wabash USRA Panel Side Hopper with car extension and canvas topper to haul grain from Maumee to Toledo.
One of three Enterprise Covered Hoppers the NYC transferred to the Canada Southern Railroad, Eastern Car Workskit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Aberdeen Decals.
Thanks for looking!

I have been in paint mode for the week, probably getting started on decals later tonight on the McHugh Brothers Baldwins. Though they have nothing to do with Christmas they sure fit in.

Bear, NICE SETUP!
Well, it's freezing cold here (5 degress farenheight!!), so if it wasn't for work I wouldnt be going outside today. Open house tomorrow for my club, so won't be on much lol. Anyway, here's a recently finished project of mine. An OLD former LEFC hopper
Custom decals, paint and weathering. Let's see more good stuff.
