Trainfest 2016 is this Saturday and Sunday November 12 + 13, 2016, at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis WI. Several of the Model Railroader staff members will be there. So will be a mixed group of people who have been posting on these various Kalmbach forums for many years - and who gather for a group photo. Join us if you can!
The annual TRAINS, Model Railroader, Garden Railroads, Classic Toy Trains, Classic Trains group photo will be at the Kalmbach Publishing booth at Trainfest. Trainfest celebrates 45 years this year. In a tradition started last year the show features a local railroad. This year the Milwaukee Road is the featured railroad. Check out special photo display of the history of the Milwaukee in Milwaukee and other places.
This years photo will be at 12:30pm at the Kalmbach booth on Saturday November 12, 2016. Keith Schmidt is running trains at his N scale railroad club until 12 noon so with time to put his trains away we figured 12:30pm would work. Please if you are at Trainfest and a member of any Kalmbach Forum stop by. It is interesting to see how those that have been in several photos change through out the years. I will bring the traditional cheesy sign. Unfortunately we have already heard that Carl Shaver and his faithful spouse Pat who has been our photographer for the last several years cannot join us. Dang.
Again the Forum Photo will be at 12:30pm on Saturday November 12, 2016 at the the Kalmbach Booth near the north side entrance to the show. Please Join In.

Trainfest is always a great time. Unfortunately for me I will miss the Saturday photo shoot as I can only attend on Sunday. Looking forward to a couple of the Clinics.

I used to be 6'8." But then the hobby got too expensive and died and the LHS closed and DCC killed the hobby again and nobody scratchbuilds anymore, so I became 6' 6 1/2" as a protest.
Seriously, going to Trainfest is NOT cheap but there seemed to be plenty of families and kids and high energy all around. I wish I knew what the secret was to turning more of them (kids and parents) into full time model railroaders because the interest is there. All the vendors and manufacturers I talked to seemed pleased to be there.
Some used stuff does get sold at Trainfest but it is NOT a swap meet by the way.

I'm 6'-4" (5'-16") and, judging by the photo, I figured you had a least an inch or two on me. I've got a classic come back for the "Did you ever play basketball" query, if you haven't heard it already...
Snappy comebacks to "Did you ever play basketball?" and "How's the weather up there?" are always welcome. As a rule I simply snarl at such people.
Yea, I've gotten both of those over the years, Dave. Not quite as much as used to though.
Anyhow, the next time someone asks you if you ever played basketball...ask them if they ever played miniature golf.
It generally takes a couple of seconds before they realize that they've been zinged. And I usually say it with a wry smile on my face. One of my favorites...
Since you guys have been doing this for some time, why don't you get a better sign? It would make more of a statement.
But the sign goes back to the very first group photo, so it has history and tradition behind it. It is the horn hook coupler of signs.
