What bothers me about MTH is that they try to apply 3 rail logic in the 2 rail world.  That is by making DCS only partly compatible with DCC is simliar to making 3 rail DCS partly compatible with Lionel Legacy.  The NMRA has standards why don't have they conform?

Call it market segmentation to avoid competition. Whether it is a smart move - well, I have my private opinion on that. It worked for Trix for nearly 50 years, but I doubt it can be repeated. Trix finally had to give in and change from 3-rail DC to regular 2-rail DC following NEM standards, shortly before they went belly-up prior to being bought up by Marklin, which also bit off more of the apple than they could swallow.

If I were Mr. Mike, I´d drop the HO scale line and concentrate my efforts on O scale. I am also glad I don´t have to make that decision...

Old Story, same story.  A sad song.   MTH Alco PA - the HO trains that do more.  Yes, they do more failures than anyone else.   Never,  never spend money for MTH trains.  Deceptive,  Poor Customer Service,  No Spare Parts.    Even if someone wants to give you one for free - just say "No Thanks" - no headaches needed.

Since 2010, I've read/heard positive and negative feedback regarding MTH's HO equipment. Although I primarily model "heavy rail", I'm still strongly interested in the trains of my childhood: NYC subway cars. It appears that MTH, bascially, is the only game in town.

Not going to sugar coat it....I was a strong MTH critic (or basher) years back during the "Command Control" dispute of 2004-05 (between MTH and QSI) which threatened to potentially affect DCC manufacturers.

However, I was glad to see that MTH eventually took a "chill pill" and a good portion of the hostile feedback towards MTH from HO modelers (myself included) cooled down. Their Ho Empire State Express passenger cars looked sharp. I complimented MTH for being the only manufacturer willing to produce plastic NYC subway cars long after Life Like was absorbed by Walthers and there were no plans to produce subway cars again.

I certainly hope that MTH's support service for HO customers is better now than it was, reportedly, in the past.

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, MTH's 20th Century Limited cars were quite nice, as well.  I eventually purchased the entire set for my BLI Dreyfus Hudson and have been quite pleased with them.  Wish they would produce more cars for that set.
