Ed,
I believe "P & M" would stand for "p*ss & moan". Just make sure you don't do it in the wind, as the ol' Waylon Jennings songs goes...

Chris this is an unusual requirement. I have not seen that required in the NMRA. I would go to the NMRA website and contact them about this. If they are an NMRA sanctioned club they are probably operating beyond the rules.
Ulrich - Thanks isnt that great finding a fellow modeler close by ?
rrebell - I split two divisions also. The Potomac and the James River Division. I go to both. Isnt that wonderful ! But I can only vote and get my Master modeler in one.
Tstage - Glad to see you here I thought you had gotten out of the MR Forum.
Thanks to those who are staying on topic looking forward to more positive comments.

Thanks, YGW. I pretty much took a vacation from the forum for over a year. Stopped back in last month and have been posting occasionally since.

Stop in at the diner and I will buy you a cup of NY Central joe. Did you take a break from Modeling too ?
From one ex mod to another - good to see you back in here, Tom!
LOCO_GUYI was going to join the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum which is listed on the nmra.org site - but appears to not to be run directly by the NMRA. Anyhoo, they have a policy of having to help run the museum (which I have no problem with) however, its about 1.5 hours away from my home - so every weekday I have to help out means taking a day off work to do it. I don't mind the contributions and helping out weekends but it just seems weird that this is a pre-condition to membership.
I don't believe that any clubs listed on the NMRA.org website are "run" by the NMRA. I think it is just a listing of clubs. I do see that they have a separate directory for 100% clubs, which I'm pretty sure means that all the members of a particular club belong to the NMRA.
So far as helping out at the club being a requirement for membership, well that might be unusual but probably is a good idea. Otherwise you end up with a large percentage of the "members" sitting around B.S.ing while a few do the work.

I did - primarily because I was out of work all last year and spent most of the time looking for another job. Currently the layout and mrr-related items are all boxed up. As soon as we sell our house and move into a new place then I can start thinking about a layout again.
And thanks, Rich & Ulrich, for the warm welcome back.

I tell you if you want to make the trip here in the Washington DC area Obama is spending money so fast that there arent enough people for all of the work that he is spending the money on. The wages here are crazy, but so is the cost of living. The closer to the money spending pit ( Wash. DC ) the higher the cost is. I saw an ad for a one bedroom apratment w/a galley kitchen this side of the potomac river. $1650 dollars a month plus utilities. The houses we are building a 1/2 west of Washington DC START at 1.5 million.
Send me a PM if you are still looking. I can forward you some job adv.
I am happy to report that I started a new job this past January. It's 3 hours away from my current home in OH so work and live in PA during the week then drive back to OH on the weekend to work on the house. My wife joins me every other week.
And, thankfully, my one-bedroom apartment is a grand cheaper than the one you saw an ad for...and it includes utilities.
Tom wrote -" so work and live in PA during the week then drive back to OH on the weekend" oh geez I would hate that. I love come home to my trains oops wife every night. Just kidding. I love coming home to a family. Glad you are employeed.
