All the best on your upcoming retirement! I hope retirement will be everything you are looking forward to - and MR will have you in the magazine or on the Video from time to time! There are no adequate words to say - so all I can say is thank you!
Onward!
Amen to that.
Now Jim will have some serious time for model railroading
Enjoy your well-earned retirement, Jim.

Jim, for all your service to Model Railroader and the model railroading community, WELL DONE !!!

Congratulations on your retirement. I am lucky to see Jim once a year at the DT&I Modelers meets and see his slides and re-collections of a once great railroad.

Rule 1: This is my railroad.
Rule 2: I make the rules.
Rule 3: Illuminating discussion of prototype history, equipment and operating practices is always welcome, but in the event of visitor-perceived anacronisms, detail descrepancies or operating errors, consult RULE 1!
Congratulations Jim on your retirement. If mine is any sign for you, I have been far busier after than before, so be prepared.
Also a big thank you for all the history tales you have told. They have been most enjoyable.
Do pop in often as all will welcome you.

Dang, I hate to see you retire Jim - your one of the last of the "old school" Model Railroader guys who I used to read in the magazine in the 80's and 90's. Really best not to retire and stay active so they say ... but I guess MR can't keep paying you forever! Model Railroad professor emeritus then, how about that!
Keep on rolling!

I had not seen an official announcement of this -- where is it on the website?
Jim was the main speaker at last spring's NMRA Midwest Region convention in Manitowoc, and in addition gave his DT&I clinic (and in addition had a table at the Convention's swapmeet room!). Sounds pretty busy for a retired guy!

Have a great and well-designed retirement, Jim!

Look on the MR Blog, Jim has been semi-retired for over a year now, he let the DT&I Modelers Group know, but until he let everyone know we kept it to ourselves.
Rick,
To clarify, Jim has been working part time for more than a year and that part-time work will conclude at the end of August.
The staff took Jim to dinner on Thursday night to mark his 43 years on the MR staff. Steve Otte, who does our Facebook page, posted some photos of the dinner. That's where the "announcement" about Jim came from. We haven't done anything "official" since Jim is still working until the end of August.

Neil ... Thanks for clearing it up. I recall Jim retired from full time work as you said, but did not know he was going to retire from part time work.
Best wishes to Jim Hediger. I certainly appreciate Jim's tour of MR HQ about 3 years ago. ..

I wish Jim many years of happy and healthy retirement. He has been a fixture in this hobby for decades.
Recently I was thinking about how little we have seen of the Ohio Southern in the press. Jim's layout was always very inspiring to me...how about a revisit of the layout now that he has retired?
Either way I will miss Jim's insight into all things model or prototype.
Wishing Jim all the best in retirement. Thank you for the knowledge that you bestowed upon us and for all the enjoyable articles.
All the best.

Add me to the long list of people who have for years admired Jim as modeler and raconteur. Our hobby, like many, has its share of ordinary windbags, so Jim's way with a story or piece of advice is all the more impressive because he gets himself out of the way and lets you in on whatever he's telling you about. Pieces by Jim may be one of the best reasons to have the Digital Archive, just to go back and hear his reflections or his instruction a second or third time. It's a great legacy for someone now enjoying retirement. Congratulations and thanks to you, Jim!
Congratulations on your complete retirement from MR, Jim.
Steve
Jim,
Congratulations and Thank You!
Hope you get some time to have fun with your layout. There are SO many things to do once one has retired. If you don't find them, someone else will.
Good luck,
Richard
I'm confused, how do you retire from your hobby? I retired from my job 7 years ago and now work full time on the model railroad. Congrats Jim and keep the spikes flying! As said before, one of the last old school model railroaders, and sure to be missed on the pages of MR.
